god, I love my neighbored! slight correction: the street you were on was University (Washington runs parallel to university but another block north) and down on the west side of University (by Mo's) is where 5th ave is. if you go south down 5th you'll go by #1 On 5th, as you showed, and also The Rail, but continue further south toward Downtown there's The Loft and SRO club. Incidentally, if you go east on University into North Park there's still more places to hang out. Pecs is on University and Alabama and in recent years has become the hangout spot for everyone from twinks to bears to leather daddies to our lesbian sisters to our elder gays. it's imho the most diverse gay bar in San Diego. thanks for the video 😃 I enjoyed looking at my hood from an outside perspective
Thank goodness for update...haven't been there in awhile....nice to get an update on the current scene...😊 The loft is further down the street from the Rail. But the old piano bar called The Caliph closed. That was a fun place.😊
@@michaelhickland4450 I love Mo l's it actually used to be called hamburger Mary's, but they change the name and that's a whole different story and blog in itself.
I've lived here since 1980 and Flicks was never a dive bar...it was one of the first video bars. Thursdays was comedy night and it was packed. People went there to kill time before Dillon's (Rich's) opened.
The only one missed is Pecs which is a leather type bar that is just east of where you started at In & Out 😍 ive lived in San Diego 22 years and absolutely love it. I happened to be at Flicks when you filmed and can see myself and friends there
Wow, all of the bars here, with the exception of the Rail, are all completely new to me!! Now, mind you, when I was doing my partying in San Diego, back in the late 70's and 80's, the go-to bars down there, and in other areas of San Diego were "The Flame" (Hillcrest), "Diablo's" (El Cajon), "The Club" (@Laurel & Kettner), "The Apartment", "The Box Office" and a couple of others. I was in the USMC at that time and stationed at Camp Pendleton. Back then, one could hit all of the women's bars and never have time to visit all of them before closing time, on a Saturday night. San Diego was such a wonderful partying town and we sure had a grand time, during that time in my life.
Lots of factual errors and some missed bars. One error is the 163 runs North -South so the walk down University is East-West. Flicks started as a video bar and was never a "dive bar". It did start small and expand though. It was even smaller that you indicated. It expanded twice, so was originally a third of its current size.

Gossip is one of my faves!
It’s definitely a fun place
Isn't the name of that bar pronounced: Alibi. Example: "Where were you on the night of the murder? What's your alibi?"
Thank you 🙏. Hope you enjoyed the video
YES! Indeed!
Correct pronunciation, yes. Not sure if true... but I heard it was the oldest gay bar in Hillcrest, but has become straight or mixed at least.
THE LOFT. Best Gay Bar for afternoon cocktails.
