Recommendation from a native, don't go to amusement parks. Visit the neighborhoods and have something to eat & drink, go for a walk around. My neighborhood commendations: La Jolla/Birdrock, North Park, Pacific/Mission Beach, Little Italy. Events: Gaslamp Quarter Padres game & a "low rider street cruise" in National City. To get an overall view of San Diego, go visit Mt. Soledad. To see the large San Diego Bay, take the Harbor Cruise or a ferry to and from Coronado. That should get you a general idea of San Diego.
We visited San Diego a few weeks ago from the UK. We were only there for 2 nights but visited old town for the first night which was brilliant and it happened to be el cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May. A special date for Mexicans. The following day (and night and our last day) we went to wonderful La Jolla (La Hoya). What a lovely town. On the seafront almost within touching distance were loads of seals, cormorants, pelicans etc. unbelievable! We loved it so much my wife wanted to buy a house there. One of the highlights of our California trip from An Francisco to San Diego. 😊😊
Get over the sticker shock if you are not from CA, and if you can do that then you will love San Diego. It is so rich with varying cities and themes and culture. Truly one of the most beautiful places in the USA. Amazing food choices, so many things to do, places to see, it truly never ends. It has traffic but still much less than Orange County or Los Angeles area freeways. Such a pleasure to live there, had the time of my life before relocating for work.
@@bennytakeson don't forget people get paid more here and we don't have to worry about snow days or winter storm damages to our vehicles or homes which can be pretty pricey to replace along with the heating bills of snowy places and Florida is just too icky humid

For nightlife, PB will be your vibe if you just want standard club vibes but San Diego has a unique house music scene. Clubs like Nova and Bloom in the Gaslamp district have world famous headliners which are something you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else. This is going to be a very hot take but check out eastern San Diego. No, not El Cajon or La Mesa but Julian and Borrego springs make great day trips where can experience pretty mountain views and the desert all within a half hour of each other.
Miquel's Cocina for dinner and Clayton's Coffee Shop for breakfast on Coronado Island are amazing places to eat. Coronado Island is my favorite place in San Diego!
I'm a real native San Diegan, born and raised. My mother was born here too in 1936 so we have watched our city grow from a cow town with lots of farms and orchards to what you see in this video but I guarantee you that you are not going to be able to see any two of these places in 3 days. Balboa Park and the SD Zoo is a 2 day event at minimum. 1 day for the Zoo alone. It's that big.

My son lives there and I visit often. I like staying near one of the beaches. It is a very bikeable city and I rent a really nice e-bike for a few days but be careful of theft. Absolutely find a good seafood taco truck and make sure you hit it. They are on a whole different level and a great bargain.

I grew up there, and it was an absolute blast in the ’60s and ’70s. Golden-tanned California blondes with their hair parted down the middle were everywhere, and it was a time before nose rings and tattoos became common. I was all over the place back then-heck, I even jumped off the cliffs at La Jolla Cove and climbed up the small staircase into the gift shop. Just got back from San Diego. Unfortunately, it was a shock and disappointment. The Gas lamp district just a few years ago used to be a beautiful place to visit. Unfortunately now there are lots of homeless and vagrants lining the sidewalks. The streets are dirty and smelly Lots of closed down businesses as well. Didn't feel safe there at all. Won't be coming back in the foreseeable future. The new America brought to you by the Dems.
The places I recommended in the video near downtown are close to the waterfront where it’s designed for tourists. The eastern downtown area has problems.
