    I can't believe most reviewers missed to mention the simple function of when the camera is switched on/off, the receiver turns on/off automatically. Thats a subtle workflow-efficiency feature. Cheers!

    Looking back at 2023, this was the best purchase I made overall. I was recording interviews on the floor of a trade show and running (sometimes literally) back and forth from one side of the convention center to the other to set up audio on different talent. Connected lavs over 20 different times and had one interview get saved entirely by the 32-bit float capability. The audio peaked in camera as the guy SHOUTED randomly several times. I was able to export the audio and eliminate all distortion. He also came in for a big hug and the sound of their clothes and two mics getting slammed up against was also recovered. Not a CHANCE I could have shot those clips again. But the charging case kept them powered up all day, the communication to the iPhone via USB-C allowed me to make changes to them in real time. They’re just such a great product.

    Looking forward to using 32 bit float, I ordered mine, waiting for it to be shipped. GainAssist does not apply to on-board recordings. Which means you can get your 32-bit float recordings untouched by gain assist internally and the receiver will be spared the clipping at 24 bits with gain assist. Going to be testing this out myself.

    I get the feeling that 32 bit float is now the basic standard for audio gear - and it doesn't have to be expensive. I've recently bought a Zoom M2 stereo / mic recorder that I'd previously turned my nose up at, but when I saw it was on sale for about the usual price of the humble but popular Zoom H1N I brushed the moths off my wallet and bought one (thanks for the bargain, Videoguys - Micro SD card included!). Anyway, although the form factor isn't as videocentric as the M3, its feature set is pretty impressive. It only records in 32 bit float. But it can export internally to 24 or 16 bits (creating a copy on the card) and can even normalise internally too. It can apply normalisation on playback without creating another copy, and it can output 32 bit float via USB-C for the rare devices (so far) as can accept that. And its headphone output will accept incoming playback audio from a connected USB-C device, eg the Pocket 3. Anyway, my point is, you get all that for next to nothing. 32 bit float is the new norm! And very good too.

    Jason, thanks for the great review. Regarding the Rode Wireless pro, would the sound be clearly better if I use Sanken Cos 11 lavs instead of the lavs that comes with the Rode?

    Does it need a TRRS cable like the videomic NTG to turn on automatically when connected to the camera? I guess so.

    Regarding the safeguard at 5:31. Let me state for the record in owning the previous DJI Wireless Mic Kit - we were doing shoots overseas and three different times if you touched the receiver wrong the screen would say "format complete." So I called DJI with this new one and asked, "Is there an easy way for me to delete the files in the field?" They said no, you have to plug it in, then connect to our app, then a pop up message will come up that asks if you are sure you want to delete." I said "I'LL TAKE IT!" So we bought it for this reason. People complain that you need the app. I hated the Rode Wireless Go 2 because the transfers would fail constantly. So far these seem to be quite solid and I'm happy with the safeguard as we cannot afford to go through this again.

    Just checked that my Sony ZV-1 only saves audio in 16 bit.
    So the Rode Wireless Pro which I just took delivery of and went out for a street test came back horrible on the ZV-1 footage. It sounded very raspy and I was only talking in a normal volume voice and even in areas with no traffic.
    Basically, from what I understand as I'm learning, my Rode Wireless Pro transmitter saves the audio in 32-bit float on the device, then transmits the signal and the receiver has it at a limit of 24-bit but when it feeds it into the Sonly ZV-1 via the mini jack, the Sony camera saves it at 16-bit on the video file.
    I was already planning to use the audio file from the transmitter. I'll probably just leave the transmitter out of the equation but leave the camera's onboard mic on as a redundancy back up.
    Not sure what the advantage of having a receiver is apart from to save the time of syncing the audio with the video. But the first thing I do in the simple Shotcut editor I use is to sperate off the audio from the video file.
    I think Rode could get a lot more customers if they just offered one transmitter for sale alone as they do with the earlier models. I would gone for that option and paid £120 rather than the £370 I ended up paying for the whole kit.

    • @JasonMorrisphotocinema
      @JasonMorrisphotocinema  Год назад +1

      Yes correct. I mentioned in the video this exact process. It would be nice if they did sell just the transmitter as is. Most of the time the 16bit or 24bit audio is enough if captured correctly but certainly does not have as much flexibility as a 32bit float file

    • @NewsRedial
      @NewsRedial Год назад

      Yeah the reason I went to check my camera's bit capacity was that you talked about some cameras not taking 24 bit.
      I'm just learning to use them now so I saved your video and will watch a few times more.
      If I'm a noob and want to learn to edit the audio file and adjust things in post is Audacity the best way or will simple video editors such as Shotcut let me do it?

    How would you compare this with the Deity Theos wireless system? Would be a good comparison. Great overall roundup of the features.

  • @REMY.C.

    Practical questions:
    Can I plug a Videomic NTG that has its own amplifier and gain control instead of those lav mics to have a portable solution that I can record on?
    Also you talked about the timecode: I have two cameras, xt4 and xpro3, can I record with the videomic ntg like I ask in the first question AND in the same time have the timecode on the audio recording and baked on the two cameras via the audio jack?
    I've been waiting since April for the Deity pr2 with timecode that was supposed to be released in November (coupled with tc1 units) but no news from deity.

    While I'm pretty good at my own audio, I would like to upgrade to 32-bit at some point. I'm essentially a talking head channel so I don't have to worry about being far away from my camera (iPhone 15 Pro Max) and needing a wireless connection to do sync from far away. My plan is to get the Neewer 32-bit lav. At some point I'll have at least 3 to use for my interviews. But the audio is impressive with the Rode.

    awesom video jason! (i may have missed it) but does this mic have the option to record into the footage of the camera 'and' simultaneously record internal (32 float) into the transmitter? Or is it only 1 or the other?

    lol, this video went live about 30 minutes before my Rode Wireless Pro order arrived at my door here in Northern England.
    I'm just charging the transmitters and reciever up before going out to do a test so about to watch this while I wait :)

    Yeah both this and the DJI mic is my top choice but only issue is the internal battery which as of every other battery operated device its battery will deteriorate after awhile thus not sure if able to replace it thereafter.

      This is not the early 2000s anymore. Batteries don't die like that anymore. Modern batteries will last you a lifetime and you won't even be able to notice the minuscule degradation.
