Smart modifications!! I just got my 3500 and plan to do this. Any issues leaving the fuel tank vent hose open? I see in the comments that you eventually blocked it off and drilled a hole in the fuel cap. I don’t plan to use an extended run kit, so I would like to leave the vent hose in the drilled hole like you did, as long as it didn’t cause any issues. Thanks!
Just block it off. Crack open gas cap it's the easiest way to do it. I doubt I will ever use an extended fuel tank I have no need for it. I was just experimenting with parts & fitting I had laying around not spending $ buying stuff to do this mod. This generator is almot 3 years old close to 1000 hours.Thanks.
Your video, this video, showed me how to delete it. And I am very grateful for it. Like you, i removed the charcoal canister and drilled holes into the airbox. I also removed the spark arrestor, swapped out the spark plug for an NGK and added a magnetic dipstick and drain plug. I haven't even fired it up for the first time yet! You did not have to make this video, but I am VERY thankful you did. Thanks for passing on your knowledge for nothing in return other than to help others. It helps me and my family and for that I am very thankful. Thanks sir!
I appreciate this video. My WGen 3600 generator started cutting out on me during a electrical shutdown and I needed to keep the house freezer and refrigerator going. I was so afraid of losing my meates in the freezer. When I removed the line from the carb canister I was able to get the unit started;Thank Goodness. Your advice is very helpful. Thank you.
Just did this, capped the gas tank vent and drilled a couple of .012 holes in the gas cap. I'll run it tomorrow. Youre saying it burns less gas, maybe, but i have a hard time believing that because that hose comes from the tank vent is up high in the tank. I do think it is worth trying tho. You never know. Thank you 😊
This generator HAS vents in the bottom of the air box towards the back! NO need to drill holes in the cover. Deleting the charcoal canister and replacing the crappy factory spark plug really help it run better!
Excellent video! On target and to the point. I've have two questions: One: I need to run a external fuel tank ,therefore, I have to close the fuel vent for the external fuel tank to work. Do you see any issues with me putting in a open shut value at the end of the fuel vent? Second: Why did you vacuum plug the plug hole, since, you drilled many air holes into the air box cover? Thank you again for taking the time to make this informative video.
I'm looking at doing this delete too. The hole he pluged is a direct air path to the carb and bypasses the filter. He plugged the filter bypass air supply and provided a filtered air supply by drilling the holes.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I can’t believe that whole air box was restricted to sucking air through a little tube which had gasoline vapors/liquid on top of that. are you at all worried about overflowed gas just sitting in that line? Or do you figure it’ll eventually evaporate
After I removed my canister, I took the vent hose from the fuel tank drilled a hole in the bottom of the generator small enough so the hose would fit tightly in the hole and stuck it out the bottom this way any gas that splashes into that hose will drain out the bottom and the tank still gets vented. One other thing, if you look at the plastic Cover on the airbox, you will see that there is more than enough ventilation, just plug the hole where the vent line went into, because that bypasses the filter.
I saw the small venting bottom right corner. I drilled holes as the venting there was after air cleaner is sealed off. I now get 5+ hours run time & still have a inch of fuel in the tank. This unit is at the 1000 hr mark. Huge improvement.
I was thinking about getting the Honda 3k inverter generator. The Predator seems like a good value. For about 5 months I will need something that is more portable than My diesel generator. There are lots of RV people reviewing the Predator but not many off grid reviews. A review from some one who has used the generator a couple time boondocking is nothing compared to someone living off grid with one. What is your opinion so far? Does you inverter charger like it. Can you get full amps on your batteries. My Magnum has a 105 amp charger at 24 volts.
Okay lots of questions I will try to answer them all. If you go to the harbor freight playlist on my channel. You can see that two of the three generators I own the first unit in the inverter category of each one I had to return. new ones I had zero issues. The generator in this video as of this morning has about 915 hours on it. Your magnasine can charge at 120 volts at a 50% charge rate. Yesterday my battery bank went down to 75% it took 5 hours to charge it back up again to 100% with the absorption cycle. It did a 5-hour run on less than one tank of gas 2.6 gallon capacity. Yes it will charge my 34KW bank it is a very quiet. Is it a Honda 3000 no. Not $3000 like the Honda either. $569 when I bought it.
@@TheKiloG69 ok thanks. You gotta great price. They are $800 now here on the left coast. Over 900 hours is worth a try. I can not justify the Honda as we will only use the generator until the solar system and the diesel generator are set up. Thank you my friend.
First off that Honda eu3000i doesn’t putout 3000 watts continue and I love my Predator 3500 inverter generator I use it every day the biggest recommendation I can make is to change your oil to 10w40 and do not drill any holes in the case if you want to drill holes then take off the air filter cover and drill two 1/4 inch holes on each side
I was playing around with it. U can just plug off the tank vent . Just crack open gas cap when running it. I have since blocked it off & drilled a hole in the gas cap & installed a air tank drain valve in the cap I can open & close as needed. It will after i unsrew the tank drain valve a quick connect fuel line adapter fits there also allowing it to accept a fuel hose from a larger remote gravity feed gas tank. Or U can buy 1. Do any of these modifications at your own discretion and your own safety be your guide.
Run the vent line out the bottom. It will vent the tank and if you over fill it gas wont be inside the generator. I cant believe how many people miss this. Don't over think it . Keep it simple
Not sure I understand your question. If you're talkin about the vent for the gas tank I did not pinch it off shut it off I ran it to the top of the fuel tank. If you're talkin about the air cleaner I just use a vacuum plug. The reason for the plug on the air cleaner is it goes straight through the air cleaner if you left it open it would suck just plain open air. Hope this helps not really understanding your question.
@@massa-blasta just google it, or type it into amazon search bar. they sell kits for super cheap. it's literally just a plug that fits into holes and "plugs" them. I just used a plastic baggy and a rubber band. works just as good although maybe not quite as "professional" of a job.
couldn't you just drill some holes in the air cover? Rather than going through the process of removing the charcoal filter and rerouting the tank vent hose?
The cleaner housing gets air from the bottom. Take a look and see. That would Not run trying to draw all the air from that little hose. What is wrong with you guys saying this??????? No need to drill holes in your cover or box!
So if some of the fuel keeps coming out and clogs that hose that you have raised up, it will be just like a dishwasher and you will not be venting your cap!😂

Thanks. I've viewed several videos on doing the mod this morning and you have made it the clearest on how to do it.

Drilling holes probly won't hurt but it wasn't breathing thru the tube from the charcoal canister
What kind of the green gas can I need the name please
That is a NATO gas can. A military gas can hard to get these days. It's not a Chinese make believe NATO can like they sell on eBay.
Good hack. Thank you for the information!!
What does that do taking that out ?
Makes the engine run a whole lot cleaner and a lot longer on a tank gas.

If this piece causes problems how come the manufacturer who no doubt has made various.tests before sending out not aware of this !?
