    We have visited a few times . Absolutely fell in love . We are originally from providence Rhode Island but live in Nashville and absolutely hate it (the weather , the allergies , the bugs ) we would love to find a house in a neighborhood that would be a good community for kids . 😊

      Big City life can be an adjustment. Lakeview is a wonderful area to live on the North Side. However, it's congested. There is major gentrification going on in Chicago's South Side at this very moment. For example, Bronzeville is booming! A better option if you ask me. Beautiful brownstone homes, condos, etc for your liking. Also very close proximity to downtown. Another neighborhood to consider is Hyde Park. Best neighborhood on the south side hands down. Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Ashburn, Garfield Ridge, etc. All great neighborhoods to raise a family, and quiet living. All these realtors think Chicago North side and downtown is the only places you can live nice. I'm a real Chicagoan that knows every neighborhood in this city. I'm a South Loop resident. It's absolutely gorgeous here as well. You have a plethora of options to choose. In my humble opinion, I would live in Chicago. All the suburbanites are moving back to the city in droves lol fyi.

    Born and raised in Chicago. Left at 18 for college never looked back. I’ve lived from TX to FL mostly southern suburban life. Nowww my spouse has accepted a job in Chicago😞. I am literally not ready. I feel like a stranger to my own city. I don’t know much about my hometown when it comes to where to live to feel comfortable. I grew up only knowing the layout of my neighborhood. Life is so different for me know. I don’t know the first thing to do when considering relocation. So much to consider. Thanks for sharing.

    I'm a south suburbanite, who is flexible to move in a large radius around the Chicagoland area. Nothing south of Frankfort, nothing west of Naperville, and preferably nothing north of Schaumburg. I would live in the city but most neighbourhoods are out of the question. I am quite familiar with the whole region given I have lived here half of my life, my problem is my low budget for purchasing a home..so it is hard to afford anything, especially given the current interest rates. I prefer a condo as I am single & reasonably young.

    How much would you recommend saving up? Leaving the army to go to school so I will have the GI bill and want to become a nurse eventually.

    • @bensanders7392
      @bensanders7392 Год назад

      Last time I used the GI Bill was 2012-14. At that time VA was taking 4 to 6 months claims process before benefits started kicking in after acceptance letter...so basically a whole entire semester at minimum....because there was such a backlog. Them schools they want their money now/ not later....to even be seated in class. It may have gotten better now lately, but at that time you had to be able to float yourself on cash for at least 3 to 4 months minimum.

    • @bensanders7392
      @bensanders7392 Год назад

      8 to 10 years ago then....once it kicked in you got your backpay all at once lump sum. But by about that 2nd or 3rd month veterans were really starting to get desperate and pawning Playstations and Xboxes....pawning their laptop computers, etc....selling plasma by the time it got to the 3rd or 4th month of backlog.

    I live in Detroit, and the only thing I KNOW that Detroit has over Chicago is parking...it's normal to be able to park if not in your garage, driveway or right in front of your house. Walking a block to get to your car...that's not happening lol.

    • @justinemchenrycounty
      @justinemchenrycounty  2 года назад +3

      Honestly, it’s complicated. Crime is an issue in certain neighborhoods in the city just as it is in any major city. And of course, you’re always going to get people that focus on it and harp on it and tell you stories about how scary it is like it’s some sort of dystopian sci-if movie. 😂 But, as a woman who has lived in both the city and the suburbs, I prefer the City, and I LOVE Chicago. And there’s TONS of Chicagoans and people who relocate who also love Chicago. I would suggest reading about LARGE city living in general. How to stay safe, what it feels like, etc. And different cities have a different vibe. Chicago and New York are super Busy feeling cities, with alternative, artsy and hip in areas, and upper class in others, along with family orientated areas as well. With any city, you have to be smart about safety. Are there people getting shot All over the City of Chicago? NO!!! There are neighborhoods that have higher crime, often due to hyper local issues, poverty, little access to opportunities, etc. It is a very sad truth, and IMO often leads to some really bias opinions about Chicago and the people who live in Chicago that quite frankly stem from lack of understanding and fear. I’ll try to post some videos about “the feel of it” for residents. Meanwhile, come for a visit and check it out!

      @@justinemchenrycounty Great synopsis. I agree with every you said. However the main problem with Chicago, that New York don't have is, SEGREGATION! Sure my city of Chicago is awesome, and I want everyone to move here. I also want everyone to live amongst each other. Chicago is very diverse, and very segregated. That's my only issue with the city. It's great neighborhoods on the south side you can live. Chicago is not only the north side and downtown. Matter of fact, south side is the larger side of town.

The schools here are atrocious...the public school teachers strike every 4 years. Lots of struggling young people are stuck here with depression and anxiety issues. Unless you're very wealthy you will not get the mental health care you need and deserve in Chicago.
