One of the coolest moments in my channel surfing life was happening upon Eric's group playing on Mr.Roger's Neighborhood. Two of Pittsburgh's finest....

Eric Kloss - alto and tenor saxes, Neal Creque - piano, elec. piano, Gene Taylor - bass, Ron Krasinsky - drums, tambourine.
Doors is in 9/8 meter. (Count it out!)
Recorded New Years Day, 1972. Eric, born blind, was 22. It was his 11th album as a leader.
Other Erik Kloss recommendations also here on YT: Sky Shadows (the longer version has a little better sound quality - has replayed sections after the song for some unknown reason, and The Kingdom Within.

The 9/8 meter and modal playing gives an almost hypnotic affect. Dig it.

Incredible atmosphere. He could just as well have titled it "Ghosts"

Thought he was Black, first time I heard this back in the 1970s... Amazing talent. Great to hear it again after all of these years

Some of us white folks ARE black. Some of us black folks ARE white. Makes it hard to discriminate doesn't it? Wish I could figure out a way to make that confusion universal.

@today is not yesterday It's not brainwashing as much as just being used to Black styles of playing. Even the late Miles Davis could tell the subtle differences between Black and White musicians and purposely mixed them for this reason or without prejudice. Other great White musicians who "played Black" : John Klemmer, Bob James, Average White Band, Keith Jarret...As Black people, we're usually *pleasantly surprised* at such White musicians... No hatred or shade, just admiration...

Music is too great to be concerned with such distinctions.Though it's origins come from specific times, places and peoples, music has always had the quality of transcendence.

@@JungleYT I was talking with my girlfriend who's black about racism. She liked my perspective and said I was black inside. Biggest compliment I've ever had.
