I often wondered back then if I would visit those memories in time. Today is one of those days. Many thanks. Turn it up and help the neighbors remember.
I'm 69 still rocking, we lived the golden age of Rock and revolution. It was all about the message as opposed to the social media impact upon the unwashed masses. Rock on till we ride on that highway to heaven. 🤘
Back when Rock was Fucking Rock, you didn't see no lip syncing or hear any back-up tracks did you? Of course not. Today's musicians don't even come close.
+john taylor Agree! Saw these guys and UFO in 79, I believe, in Columbus (OH) Veterans Memorial, from the 13th row. My ears rung for days, but it was a gas! One of the best hard-rock shows I saw. Hargrett was hopping all over the stage, the whole band just roared.
man your exactly right. its a disgrace how actual musicians get overlooked, and idiots get all the praise and all there doing is cheating with auto tune and synthesisers. I don't get how someone who can rhyme a little and know nothing about actual music can be called a musician. I just think that someone who can't play or sing should get any credit for being a musician. there's still good music but you have to look for it cause its nots going to be mainstream. I'm just glad that there are still people out there that think a musician should have some actual knowledge about music
i had a 1968 chevelle 396 4 speed, i was on my way to go see the outlaws , molly hatch and black foot in concert ..i got in a race with another chevelle just blocks from the auditorium i had this song crankin in the cassett..i lost the race because the hood blew up on my chevelle when i banged 3rd gear ...but one of the most memorable days of my life, it was my 21rst birthday 1981..true story.37 years ago.times have changed and i had totally forgot until i heard this song ..WOW!
The best days for music were in the 1970s. Notice the lights in the audience are from LIGHTERS not CELLPHONES there will never be another time like this in music history. Glad I lived it and this song sums it up.
Absolutely best days. Well 50's (doo wop) and 60's (Hendrix, Zeppelin ... list too long ) were pretty great, too, IMHO. Which led to the 70's ... Really I've enjoyed the best life and so sad for young people today they can't have that great experience ... with loads of freedom unfettered exploration and adventure ... but anyway love blackfoot too (the original group).
I was 15 years old in the early 80's when I went to my first concert ever Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot. I've seen Grammy winners who aren't even close to the talent I saw that night. Great memories I will never forget.
I saw Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Charlie Daniels and Van Zant back in the early- mid eighties. I was 15. Took my mom. Had a ball. She was diagnosed with MS not long before this and she was real bloated and on a bunch of meds. These dudes asked her if she wanted to hit a joint and she said no and they asked her if they could have what she was on!
Around 1977 or early 1978, when I was 20-21, a friend and I made a Friday night run to Austin, got a couple of motel rooms. Saturday we cruised 6th St. picked up a couple of chicks, entertained ourselves and in the early evening went to the Armadillo World Headquarters. We were happy to find out that Blackfoot was playing with the Dictators, out of New York, opening. The Dictators were great and as we were waiting for Blackfoot, Handsome Dick Manitoba, lead singer for the Dictators, walked out from somewhere behind the stage area. I saw him and as I was looking, he started to walk towards us. It was like watching a movie, as he came up to me and asked if he could sit with us, he said that he wanted to watch Blackfoot do their set. We were like, "Shit yeah!!!"and star struck. We had a big, bad joint going and asked Handsome Dick to partake. He said no, but thanks. Weed always affected his voice. BUT, if we had some cocaine....We didn't. Then Blackfoot tore it up. Handsome Dick leaned over and said, "Ain't Blackfoot GREAT!". Then it was over. Handsome Dick got up, thanked each of us for our Texas hospitality and was gone. Blackfoot was great and having the lead singer of the Dictators watch them with us made it even better. I've never forgotten about that Saturday night at the Armadillo World Headquarters.
"Highway Song" is a true classic!!! Rick Medlocke is the real deal, the complete showman. Incredible voice, awesome musician. This song and band were underrated and underappreciated. I never get tired of this video!
Highway Song used to play 12-20 times a day if we switched radio stations, which we did often through the day. Everyone here is right though, Blackfoot was thr real deal. Nothing fake there ever.
I think one of the most overrated words on these comment sections is “underrated “ ! Stop using this damn word about every band and musician out there. Hell, half the ones described in this fashion have had plenty of exposure and recognition. Use your own thoughts and quit with the duplication !
Graduated from a Texas high school in 1977. I so miss those days when life was much simpler. Love my southern rock!!! Best music ever written, skynyrd, blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, Marshal Tucker, Charlie Daniels, and the list goes on and on. We had problems in those days but didn't live in a society that ran on fear. Music like this kept me going. Sure we weren't angels in those days, we drank some beers and smoked some pot, but my God we didn't eat tide pods and use these new bathtub drugs that make you act like a zombie and eat faces. Anyway those days are gone never to return and all of the digital advances to make our lazy lives easier? Is our life easier now days? God Bless have a good day.
My favorite live rendition of a favorite song . Having got my education in life hitch hiking 13,000 miles in '75 at the age of 20 ( with a loaded backpack ) , I always get a thrill from hearing this . Same for Runnin' Like the Wind by Marshall Tucker ........
If I had one more day to live in any time period I'd choose the 70's. I hate living in an era where musicians are worshipped for doing nowhere near anything to what bands like Blackfoot, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rush etc. have done.
Example: Buckethead has 300 plus self released albums of some of the best guitar work done in history and no one cares. He makes less money off his 300+ albums than Courtney Love does from one Nirvana album she had no part of other than being married to one of the band members. It's all marketing, not the musicians' fault. You can market Courtney Love because she was married to a guy who killed three or four musical genres by ripping off all the bands he used to roadie for then killed himself during the peak of his career. You can't market a guy with a KFC bucket on his head and a Michael Myers mask even if he can play guitar relatively better than most people.
they were 70's but I think by 80's band he meant that's where they were at their prime. For example LZ is a 60's band and yet everyone know's them for their 70's songs.
Very cool. In an Iron Maiden book I have there are pictures of the Blackfoot and Iron Maiden guitarists playing together on stage. I wonder what song(s) they jammed to? I saw Iron Maiden and Scorpions in Germany in the mid to late 1980s.
+Too Wild Jakson Spires was a fantastic drummer too! Greg pounded the bass. I got to speak with Charlie and Greg Walker a few years ago after a show in Upstate NY. Great people.
Made a new friend in ASPEN CO named Chris Near that said he grew up with the guys in Balckfoot. Thought he was full of it until he took me to my 1st Blackfoot concert (STRIKES) in Denver. Went out back after the concert and he went into the bus without me... A few minutes later a guy comes out and calls my name Hey John Bear, come on in! WTF? Had a great time with the guys.. Spires had played the gig sick as fuck and went right to the hospital afterwards... He didn't miss a beat ! Was a great band and the music lives on and on and on like a Highway Song :)
Agreed! He and all the guys made the Blackfoot sound what it was. Rick M can do it all by himself in the studio but not on stage. I also loved the drummer. He played while sick the night I saw them and went to the hospital right after the concert. I didn't get to meet him :( Those 4 guys were BLACKFOOT ! Wasn't the same afterwards. Same sound but not as good. Kinda like the EAGLES without Don Felder. I guess. I still love em tho :) Also love "Cry Of Love" but didn't get to see em before they broke up. Damn it!
It was an amazing time to be alive. I was in high school in the late 70s.....can't believe how lucky I am to have been seeing all this music in real time. Grateful.
I always loved Blackfoot ...and still do. Their music is like tattoed on my soul. Timeless tunes full of energy. No matter if fast or slow. They had something special . A unique spirit in their music. They were real....no stupid fakes.
This is how it's done kids. No toys no frills just straight shooter rock and roll at it's best. You see kids back in the day you just went out and did it and you either were great or you sucked. There were no backing tracks or gimmicks to cover the flaws. It's too easy for people that really suck to sound good now with all the toys to hide their suckiness.
Seneca Guns I love this band, but I also love nirvana which was the opposite, no technic, no solos, just random power chords, still cool imo, rock and roll is not about the riffs, it's about the spirit.
This was such a amazing song when it came out. I remember driving my 55 Chevy and partying to this by the river. What a life the 70s was. Now I’m old remember only what I can remember. Still a bad ass song.
What I love about this music and this time was how the bands supported each other. Guys changing bands or just coming out for cameos or covering each other. Skynyrnd, Blackfoot, .38 Special and my favorites, The Outlaws. These guys put every ounce of energy into every show. I saw Charlie Daniels, .38 Special and Skynyrd around 2007 at Iowa Speedway and watching them they performed as though they were unknowns fighting for their first record deal.
Ahhh...Blackfoot. One of the most underrated bands of all time. I had the pleasure of meeting Rick Medlocke and Gary Rossington in a casual setting one day. Both very nice guys. Rick and I talked a lot about Blackfoot. Gary is pretty shy and didn't say much.
Went to see Blackfoot around this time in the old Boston Gahden with my late Brother Michael. Without My Brother I don’t know anything about them or most things in life an older Brother is supposed to show you. This song will always remind Me of You Man. Miss You more than you know Michael. 🙏😞
I traveled 12 miles south from my University in West Chester, PA. down to a sticky~hot joint at the Delaware line called "The Tally-Ho Motor Lodge and Bar" to see these gentlemen in like 1982. *Wow* . They rocked it so hard, I think they moved the building foundation a bit. Hi-fived 🙌 them in the parking lot later on, when they got on their bus. Rickey Medlocke is such a Bad Ass individual. 🐏 🎸🔥 Truly broke the mold. 🤘😎👍 🍻
Saw the band back in 78 or 79 in Hartford CT. Great show, Ricky Medlocke is a dynamic personality on stage. Band is so tight. Great to see something from the era that you thought was just incredible back then and it really was!!
Used to work with Charlie at Sabine Music Center in 1989 -90 in Gainesville, FL and jam with him most every Monday nights at our local warehouse jam night. He is such a gentleman and great musician. Seeing this video makes me realize how lucky I was to be around him back then.
Seen Blackfoot & Molly Hatchet together in the early 80's in Nashville, TN. It is still one of the best concerts ever, Dave Medlocke guitar amazing & Danny Joe Brown vocal for Hatchet outstanding. Thank you both.
I was 6 at the time of this concert I'm now 47 and my God, you really appreciate genuinely great bands from the past especially in a vast sea of modern shit. This is a timeless classic.
There must have been something in the water around Jacksonville and Florida in general in those days to have produced such mind blowing musicians. We're proud of each and every one. Thanks for the great, never again music
what a gr8 f.ing GOLD nugget of music from my teen's, !! Loved it then, and damn glad to know as I'm in my 50's , I had killer good taste in music! Rock ON !!! Rooster (AKA Brian Wayne Bunting)
Although I graduated HS in ‘86, I never heard this song until a few yrs ago. It blew me away. Assumed it must have been one of the hard rock bands of the late 80s/early 90s that I didn’t pay attention to. Was shocked to find out it came out in ‘79. How did I not hear this great song growing up?!
I was in Killeen Texas, 1977. These guys played at the base. Wow, lets just say Greg and I had a blast. Sent me tickets to Brownsville for my sister and I. A Limo too. We remained friend for many years. Husbands aren't crazy about musician friends. Very memorable time.
This video is an example of just how much fun it was to live in the 1970's as a teenager......If I only truly realized it at the time.......
I realized it and what I would give for a time machine!
I knew it n lived it!
If I only had the money to enjoy it more.
I often wondered back then if I would visit those memories in time. Today is one of those days. Many thanks. Turn it up and help the neighbors remember.
I'm. Still alive and I always. Love ..y siempre. Escucho está. Música
I’m 62 now and still dig the shit out of Blackfoot Strikes✌️
I'm 69 still rocking, we lived the golden age of Rock and revolution. It was all about the message as opposed to the social media impact upon the unwashed masses. Rock on till we ride on that highway to heaven. 🤘
This rendition of Highway Song" is priceless!!! OMG!!!!! Ricky is phenomenal!!!❤❤❤❤
Indeed & also one cool cat
Back when Rock was Fucking Rock, you didn't see no lip syncing or hear any back-up tracks did you? Of course not. Today's musicians don't even come close.

This Southern fried classic has got me scattered, covered, and smothered. Long live Blackfoot!
The good days! I went to concerts in the 70s. It was the best time to be a teenager
I wish I'd gotten to go to more than I did! I missed so much!
i had a 1968 chevelle 396 4 speed, i was on my way to go see the outlaws , molly hatch and black foot in concert ..i got in a race with another chevelle just blocks from the auditorium i had this song crankin in the cassett..i lost the race because the hood blew up on my chevelle when i banged 3rd gear ...but one of the most memorable days of my life, it was my 21rst birthday 1981..true story.37 years ago.times have changed and i had totally forgot until i heard this song ..WOW!
People who know music knows blackfoot...

C'mon, some Southern rocks fans didn't know them 🤣
The best days for music were in the 1970s. Notice the lights in the audience are from LIGHTERS not CELLPHONES there will never be another time like this in music history. Glad I lived it and this song sums it up.
Amen!
Correct. ..
I saw candles when we played

WilsonEatsASMR saw them at selland arena in frsno ca. 1980 or 81?? Awsome night!!
Rickey's vocals are so damned perfect, one of rock's greats no question.
Medlocke is fantastic....Blackfoot and now Skynyrd...one of the best pure rockers...EVER!!!
And doing those vocals with one lung!!! BADDDASS!!!
That, my friends, is how it's done.
John Helgason
You are damn right!
I was 15 years old in the early 80's when I went to my first concert ever Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot. I've seen Grammy winners who aren't even close to the talent I saw that night. Great memories I will never forget.
My first concert was Peter frampton and blackfoot opened. They were so freaking good!!!
I saw Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Charlie Daniels and Van Zant back in the early- mid eighties. I was 15. Took my mom. Had a ball.
She was diagnosed with MS not long before this and she was real bloated and on a bunch of meds.

How true ! 100% ! 2 great bands ! Great times ! !! 70-s -80's**

NYC Punk and good ole southern rock. Doesn't get any better than that!

We love this always!
I'm with you there, Babe. Keep it going, it may get much better.
@Laura Mounier
Undoubtedly all these comments are right as far as i feel!
Highway Song used to play 12-20 times a day if we switched radio stations, which we did often through the day. Everyone here is right though, Blackfoot was thr real deal. Nothing fake there ever.
Yeah, just like skynyrd they never got the recognition that they rightly deserved 🙂

One of my favorite songs ever, fan of Deep Purple, Skynard, Blackfoot, Outlaws....
Speechless. Phenomenal performance and tone. I miss the analog sound nowadays.
Southern rock at its best. Simply badass. Love it.
Amen!
This is the best highway song ever. Thank you. Rickey. Medlocke for being you
Southern Rock is America's music.
GOT THAT RIGHT, YOU SURE GOT THAT RIGHT !!!

In 1979 I was 25 and blessed to have grown up during the best rock era ever.
Saw them in 1982 in Amsterdam, supporting Scorpions and Iron Maiden. They were *awesome*. My top 3 concerts ever for sure.
Very cool. In an Iron Maiden book I have there are pictures of the Blackfoot and Iron Maiden guitarists playing together on stage. I wonder what song(s) they jammed to? I saw Iron Maiden and Scorpions in Germany in the mid to late 1980s.
Lucky Man!
I used to listen to this back when I was in high school.....seems like forever ago! I miss those days. Good friends (some gone now)....
NOTHING today compares. Love Rick. Had that jean long jacket many moons ago... ahhh but this music brings me right back.
Really wished Ricky would still sing today. Obviously he’s playing guitar with LS, but he’s an amazing singer 🎤
The vocals on this are amazing!
Charlie Hargrett never got enough credit for being an outstanding guitar player.
+Too Wild Jakson Spires was a fantastic drummer too! Greg pounded the bass. I got to speak with Charlie and Greg Walker a few years ago after a show in Upstate NY. Great people.
+Thomas Mallow Fellas, the whole band was good.

God damn. I can't imagine how amazing it must have been to exist in such a time. There is true spirit here.
Shavo oh that time was awesome. 70s and 80s music best ever. And I know cuz I was there.
It was a great time to be a yoot indeed me friend......
That's the problem with growing up in the golden age. We had no idea how good we had it
It was an amazing time to be alive. I was in high school in the late 70s.....can't believe how lucky I am to have been seeing all this music in real time. Grateful.
Love this band with all my heart!!! If you don't, you should!!! There's a story!!!
I always loved Blackfoot ...and still do. Their music is like tattoed on my soul. Timeless tunes full of energy.
No matter if fast or slow. They had something special . A unique spirit in their music.
They were real....no stupid fakes.

Seneca Guns Amen!!! We're old school and raw ourselves. Keeping it real, forever!
Seneca Guns not entirely true. Try playing with backing tracks. Easier to play with live band and no backing tracks.
Jvq they wouldn't need backing tracks if they could actually PLAY their instruments...
Amen brother............
They are one of the greatest southern rock bands of all time!
Timeless old school.. Guaranteed Warren Haynes is a fan ✊🏼
Love Rickey's Guitar Solo!
I'm only 41, but I grew up listening to classic rock, southern rock like Blackfoot, Skynyrd, molly Hatchet, ect. Love it!!!
Thing is , You have to be 60 years old now , to have experienced this. I’ll be 61 in April. I was there. I still have my Blackfoot Strikes Album.
This was such a amazing song when it came out. I remember driving my 55 Chevy and partying to this by the river. What a life the 70s was. Now I’m old remember only what I can remember. Still a bad ass song.

saw them in 1979 in TX. I can't even say who played AFTER them bc they stole the show! they deserve to be recognized!!
I think that was the same year I saw them in Shreveport. If so, it was Peter Frampton and yes they stole the show
17 years old, backseat of my boyfriend's car....boyfriend's long gone but still love this song
They owned that stage, such a class act.
TwangyDan TheGuitarMan for sure I agree
Reminds me of my twisted youth growing up. Had that album. Was a very underrated band
Highway Song is still in my TOP 10..... one of the best songs ever !
One of the greatest songs ever!!!

Most of my adult life, and some earlier, this song has always moved me. Love it, Love it, Love it!!
The year I graduated high school!! Awesome tune! ❤1979
So underrated. One of the best Southern Rock Bands of all times. Ricky is so talented. Spot on every time he plays.
Ahhh...Blackfoot. One of the most underrated bands of all time.

These Guys rock! I wish people still rocked like this.
Alex Mays Band They do! Just gotta dig deep sometimes. Check out our video for Whiskey Down, you may dig it.
Rickey is the lead guitar for Lynyrd Skinner
They're there. You gotta get your feet dirty, and go to the small venues and roadside bars
In Memory of all our road=trips Little Brother;Hope you are dancing in heaven as this is playing and remembering all our great times

They rocked it so hard, I think they moved the building foundation a bit. Hi-fived 🙌 them in the parking lot later on, when they got on their bus. Rickey Medlocke is such a Bad Ass individual. 🐏 🎸🔥 Truly broke the mold. 🤘😎👍 🍻
We played a little in the 70’s..... playing a little now.
So damn good...Hadn't heard it in a while. Music like this cannot be found anymore!
One of the greatest rhythm sections in rock history.
music is a true time machine.. takes me back to the 70's every time...
Saw the band back in 78 or 79 in Hartford CT. Great show, Ricky Medlocke is a dynamic personality on stage. Band is so tight. Great to see something from the era that you thought was just incredible back then and it really was!!
Though it's older than I am, I love this song so damn much!!!!!!
Rock on Rickey "*all this madness ~ it ain't as crazy as it seems"...!!!
Perhaps the longest and best "ride" ever taken by a group of guitarists, to date.
What an amazing voice. Love this music.
Ricky the most underrated guitar player of all times!

Used to work with Charlie at Sabine Music Center in 1989 -90 in Gainesville, FL and jam with him most every Monday nights at our local warehouse jam night. He is such a gentleman and great musician. Seeing this video makes me realize how lucky I was to be around him back then.
Nice story mate Charlie was so key to Blackfoot sound
Agreed.
Seen Blackfoot & Molly Hatchet together in the early 80's in Nashville, TN. It is still one of the best concerts ever, Dave Medlocke guitar amazing & Danny Joe Brown vocal for Hatchet outstanding. Thank you both.
James Atkinson Dave Medlock?

I was 6 at the time of this concert I'm now 47 and my God, you really appreciate genuinely great bands from the past especially in a vast sea of modern shit. This is a timeless classic.
There must have been something in the water around Jacksonville and Florida in general in those days to have produced such mind blowing musicians. We're proud of each and every one. Thanks for the great, never again music
45 years later and this song still rocks!!!
Blackfoot put's on one of the best live show's I've ever seen thanks for sharing and the memories

Nope, and it's just going to get worse from here on out unfortunately ... 😑
Truth
the 70's were a great time for songwriters. a lot of classics were created then.
Lynne Fairchild wow!
