Why don’t you wrap the rest of the RO?

Marvin also requires you to seal under drip cap.

Hi Mike, Wrapping the window in some cases becomes a preference or it can be dictated by the designer/architect/building envelope consultant/ or Weather-resistant barrier manufacturer. This is just one of the many ways to Prep an RO. The thought process behind not wrapping material into the window is to prevent lateral water movement in the case of potential failure of flashing and sealant which may allow water to have direct access to the interior wall cavity. By not wrapping the RO, once the water reaches the “different” Material (OSB and not smooth flashing), it will drop down to the window pan and out the open bottom flange. Let us know if we can answer any other questions!

What if I have tar paper on an 1920 house? I will take off the trim and apply new azek trim. But siding has to stay.

Hi Bobbi Jo, Great question. You will need to prep your opening for a basic window installation. This includes a proper window sill pan, sealant behind the flanges, and leg and header flashing with approved products. The rain skirt is recommended, not required. Following this best practice instruction will yield a warranted window installation. Let us know if you have any questions.
