    Great job on this one! Good choice leaving it thick for the quench. My only wish is that you made this one a hidden tang so you got more blade length to expose that cool pattern! It would look amazing with a copper guard... next time. Amazing build, Erick!

    The interaction between the cable and copper is really neat! Dont worry about the size. It gives you a reason to make a bigger knife using same technique...

    Excellent! I share your enthusiasm that it worked out the way you wanted it to. The cable really adds an interesting visual dimension you wouldn't have otherwise, so your billet choices were spot on. I expect lots of folks will try this now that you've demonstrated that it's possible.

      Yea i thought the copper would just be boiling liquid at steel welding temps. I suck at forge welding though! :D

    I'd like to see a copper tubing forged with a steel cable inside. Then you'd have a Damascus center with copper jacket on the blade face

    Yes! Proper cutting wheel usage. My neighbor took a wheel to the lip for not using one correctly. Pinched the wheel and it blew up.

      How so ? He's missing the guard and that's pretty dangerous when using such cutting wheels that are prone to breakage. Not that I haven't done it, but it definitely isn't the proper way of doing it.

      Dude, I can't wait to heat treat it and grind the bevels up higher and etch it. I'm thinking about just doing a coffee etch.

    My EDC is usually a 7 to 10 inch fixed blade. A little knife almost always sucks. Of course, 90 percent of my work is outdoors.

      There is a lot of watching the forge during this melting process to make sure that you don't melt anything more than you want it to melt.

    Good looking pattern. The copper is a great idea.
    I was wondering why you wasted more than half of you billet on the handle part of the knife ?

      My personal preference when building any knife is to do a full tang. I just like the weight, balance and stability of a full tang. I do plan on build some hidden tang knives in the future.

    Heck yeah. I gotta find the follow up vid. Looks amazing so far. The contrast might not be quite so stark here, but after hand sanding and polishing I can imagine how it will look. Great idea and great job bringing it to this point. I sure hope it completes the way it is going so far. SUB'd.

    When I have a smaller billet I like to do hidden tang knives so you can see more of your hard work with a larger blade

      I thought about doing a hidden tang but I really liked the cable showing down the tang. I really need to do some hidden tangs though.

    Is a copper twist possible and forge weld a carbon steel edge to it so the edge has no soft copper
