  • Here's Part 2 of 2 in my series "Exterior Cleaning Dumpster Fires." I'm talking about house washing, power washing, soft washing, pressure cleaning, roof cleaning, etc etc. These are exterior cleaning disasters I've seen around the towns I live in.
    Last week, I posted a video showing some really bad soft washing and power washing jobs I've seen here on Cape Cod. Here's more, including my thoughts on the "why" and "how to avoid this." I hope it's informative as well as entertaining.
    I clean exterior surfaces for a living here on beautiful Cape Cod. If you want to learn more about my services, please check out these links:

    Thanx for the lesson on the know how and avoiding mistakes. I’ve learnt that in the industry you need to know your chem and its application to be successful.
    A quick question. What are your thoughts on sugar soap? Have you ever used it?

      I'm not familiar with "sugar soap." Do tell!

    • @tomalley798
      @tomalley798 Месяц назад

      @@OutsideCleaners sugar soap is a mild chemical cleaner that is used typically indoors. Painters use it on walls to remove grease, mould, nicotine stains and etc in prep to painting.
      Sugar soap’s key ingredients are actually sodium phosphate, sodium carbonate and sodium silicate, though each manufacturer has their own formula.

    Hey Nate, how do protect unfinished wood, like decks and wood siding when using SH to wash a roof?

    • @OutsideCleaners
      @OutsideCleaners  Месяц назад +1

      1) Don't get sodium hypertension on these surfaces.
      2) If it's unavoidable, minimize the amount and duration.
      3) If unavoidable, saturate these surfaces with water before, during, and right after exposure to SH.

    I’m going to do my deck and plan so use sodium par carbonate. Should I add a soap to the mix?

    • @user-yy4up8qf5m
      @user-yy4up8qf5m Месяц назад +1

      You can add soap... but which one?
      ...and why? Well soap breaks down the surface tension of the 💦 water and will clean and pre-soak better than just water alone.
      Wood is soft and when we get it wet it gets softer... so the idea is to clean with more cleaning power in the chemestry and less water power at the spray tip.
      Spray tips come in different gpm ratings so we can increase the water volume and reduce the pressure at the tip.
      For you... you just hold the fan tip further away from the deck or shoot at a slight angle which will reduce the spray power.
      With SH start low and see what it does in a test area. Say 20 SH/80 Water on clorox and 15SH/85 water from 10% Pool SH from WM or HD. then add more SH in another test area if needed.
      Soap: Gain laundry liquid. 2-3 ounces per gallon...then add more if needed.
      Scrub the windows with soap and a brush then rinse the windows with city water and rinse off the city water with distilled water in a pump up sprayer😊
      Before breaking out the SH... try washing the deck with simple green or pine allen then lightly hit the green and black organics with diluted bleach and soap solution from a pump up sprayer.
      Clean early in the morning when its cool.

    Very informative. Thank you. You are very articulate. Your mannerisms, your exasperation, is somewhat comical. Its almost as if you internalize the world's mistakes as if they are your own.

      Thanks for watching. Your comment gave Leah a much-needed laugh. I asked her if I internalize the world's mistakes as if they were my own, and through her squeaking I heard, "Do you really need to ask?" 😂

    I live in Brewster WA. I’ve been working under the table for years but I just started an LLC doing Handyman work, I have a client with a Cedar log cabin on the lake. It has dark mold spots and some exposed greyed wood areas. I was going to do a soft wash and a restain and seal. Now I don’t wanna do a rookie move. What do I do? I really don’t wanna sand or strip the whole thing after I wash it, esp for the price I already accepted… any tips you can give for the wash and restain?
