@@OutsideCleaners can you name your cleaning detergents, aside from SH and Sodium Precarbonate? Or is that what you’re saying, without exactly saying it

Is there a recommended treatment for new red cedar siding? We live in Syracuse NY, and love cedar sided houses. Should we leave the shingles bare and natural or as far as products what would you recommend- I.E. CedarShield / or a transparent / hydrophobic / mildew-cide? I’m interested in preserving the natural look of the shingles, and have decided to not stain or paint. There’s a lot of techniques / products - however, I know houses in Cape Cod are the benchmark that stand the test of time.
For a 2 story wood house (after a pre rinse), can I x jet the siding with sodium metasilicate and then rinse the SM off and apply oxalic acid then rinse? My real question is will the SM rinse off nicely when you’re rinsing high? I’ve only cleaned decks in a uniformed manner never a two story. Thanks.
Lots of variables there. Is the wood painted, stained, or natural? What are you trying to remove (algae, pollen...)? How many gpm are you applying? Those things will all have a huge impact on whether or not the sodium metasilicate solution will rinse off well from the 2-story building. SM will etch glass and many metals if it dries on those surfaces, so to me it doesn't sound like something I'd try with a low-flow machine...
@@OutsideCleaners 5.5 gpm belt drive. It’s natural wood with mostly dirt the homeowner stated, not much algae. I’d apply with a modified x jet and was thinking of using the m5 twist / Kyle Davis shooter.
@@adamg.3138 I’m not a fan of sodium metasilicate on bear cedar, whether it’s red or white or yellow cedar. I’d recommend sodium percarbonate, but you can’t downstream it.
@@OutsideCleaners I have to ask the homeowner if it is actually cedar. It is a really nice light brown wood home. A $500K home on stilts by the water. He said it’s just dirt really. I’ll be applying a mix with my x jet modified gun from Doug Rucker store. Just thinking what that mix and the steps should exactly be.
Thanx for the lesson on the know how and avoiding mistakes. I’ve learnt that in the industry you need to know your chem and its application to be successful. A quick question. What are your thoughts on sugar soap? Have you ever used it?
@@OutsideCleaners sugar soap is a mild chemical cleaner that is used typically indoors. Painters use it on walls to remove grease, mould, nicotine stains and etc in prep to painting. Sugar soap’s key ingredients are actually sodium phosphate, sodium carbonate and sodium silicate, though each manufacturer has their own formula.
I live in Brewster WA. I’ve been working under the table for years but I just started an LLC doing Handyman work, I have a client with a Cedar log cabin on the lake. It has dark mold spots and some exposed greyed wood areas. I was going to do a soft wash and a restain and seal. Now I don’t wanna do a rookie move. What do I do? I really don’t wanna sand or strip the whole thing after I wash it, esp for the price I already accepted… any tips you can give for the wash and restain?
@@OutsideCleaners It is impossible to get any of these chemicals locally and the client wants this done asap, is there anything I could use to substitute for sodium percarbonate and oxalic acid?
@@SunderBlue22 Got a hardware or paint store nearby? Krud Kutter or Purple Power would be better than SH, if prepping for stain. Just don't let either dry before rinsing!
1) Don't get sodium hypertension on these surfaces. 2) If it's unavoidable, minimize the amount and duration. 3) If unavoidable, saturate these surfaces with water before, during, and right after exposure to SH.
Hi Nate! I bought a bunch of white cedar shingles that have been sitting outside over a year under shades not covered.. I want to clean them before installing as siding. What would you recommend for cleaning? I dont think there were any big chunky moss but gray here and there.
Very informative. Thank you. You are very articulate. Your mannerisms, your exasperation, is somewhat comical. Its almost as if you internalize the world's mistakes as if they are your own.
Thanks for watching. Your comment gave Leah a much-needed laugh. I asked her if I internalize the world's mistakes as if they were my own, and through her squeaking I heard, "Do you really need to ask?" 😂

Great video. I couldn’t imagine paying for some of these mistakes
Awesome video!! I need to go back on all your videos to see if you discuss mixing the sodium percarbonate
When you reference detergent. What are you specifically referring too?
By detergent I mean a cleaning solution used to remove things like stains, organic growth, street grime, pollen, etc

Cleaners nightmares jobs
How much do you charge/make per month?
I don't really charge by the month..
Great video.Nate. lot of videos of Splash & Dash, gotta get 6, 7, 8 jobs out in a day. Using surfactant takes too long to rinse....🫤
The industry standard is rapidly getting worse.
