I love how Stephen would then reference this in Kung Fu Hustle with his character popping a soccer ball and saying "NO MORE SOCCER!" like he was telling the fans to stop asking about a Shaolin Soccer 2.
What a hilarious movie and heartfelt reaction from Clariss!!😅 Clariss: "Ain't no one else see that Devil Demon rooted in that man?!?" Me: Cracking up 🤣😂
Stephen Chow's comedy works so much better in the original Cantonese so it makes me very happy you watched the subbed version. I love the Iron Head/Steel Leg song where they keep hitting the wrong guy in the wrong place 🤣🤣🤣
thanks for your reaction. and very happy to see you enjoyed it. You can classify Stephen Chow's comedy as very sarcastic, and always subvert expectations. He has a formula in his comedy (someone already analyzed in another youtube video), and he uses seriousness to bring out the comedy by subverting your expectation. it doesn't appeal to everyone of course but most people do find it funny.
Fun fact about the italian edition of this (that made it even more fun) as most (all) non italian movies even this one was dubbed... but not by professionals... by real life professional soccer players and coaches as in top tier league ones!
Stephen Chow same to have master that live action anime movie. It our reality just little bit altered and Love it. His movies are great and as always a great reaction by you
Talking about Mulan's heavy makeup, the actress actually starred as Mulan in a live action Mulan (2009). Not the Disney one, and it's far more depressing and realistic regarding the brutality of war.
The English translation at 19:43 did a bit of injustice to what Sing said and made him sound so cruel. He actually said "No. If the shoes get worn off, I will throw them away. We must always look forward to a better future. I don't want to ever wear worn-off shoes again." In the original language, he didn't say "Things have changed. I have to think about the future." Besides this, there are also lots of other mistranslations in the film.
Its so absurd and funny that just because Iron Head can take a glass bottle to the head his boss just does it ANY time he does ANYTHING slightly wrong. Like the goofy world logic where that's just the natural progression and its so casual its not even acknowledged is what I live for.
Just subscribed. Love your reactions. Shaolin soccer is hilarious and one of the best of Stephen Chow and comedy in general. Please react to Kung Fu Hustle next. It is a must watch prroduced by the same Stephen Chow and King Of Beggars as well
@@roylle6346 We were in Kunming China and a movie company was making a mini-series dramatizing some local history. They needed a foreigner to play a Russian diplomat. The director was a friend of a friend who we met in passing. The guy was like, 'you sort of look Russian, wanna be in a TV show?'. She played a secretary during negotiations. My dad's role was a one time part, and he was only in 2 scenes.
The original version of this is better than the version you are watching, because the original have some extended scenes and the cg is slightly different from the version you are watching (ex. the text on paper on the can). also the music used in the dancing scene and ending is different, and the original has extended scene of the goalkeeper's hand bleeding before he burnt his hands.
It's funny when you say she reminds you of Mulan.. the actress is called Wei Zhao, and she has actually starred in the 2009 movie Mulan rise of a Warrior. Which is pretty good.
22:00 Commenting months later to confirm that the style of comedy you might be referring to is called "Slapstick," especially when referring to anything by Mel Brooks.
I know a lot of exclamation ps: "ho yes! OMG ! yeah !” It was your love of the movie, but until a gentleman said to me, "There are kids in the park, can you stop watching it?"
I recommend the following: Once Upon A Time In China(all of the films in the series) Fong Sai Yuk I(and II) Jackie Chan's Who Am I Rumble In The Bronx Drunken Master
You should definitely try and do more Stephen Chow movies, things like Forbidden City Cop, From Beijing, with Love, Sixty Million Dollar Man and CJ7. His movies are super hilarious. 😊
If you loved this then you 100% need to watch "Kung Fu Hustle". its another campy kung fu comedy that has the same whacky feel as this movie. co-written, directed and produced by the same man who did this movie Steven Cho.
@22:10 re: Breaking the Fourth Wall. You might be thinking of "metalepsis," but that's a literary term, I'm not sure if it's used in film studies. Loosely, metalepsis is a transition between or transgression of types of narrative, such as if the character talks to the narrator or says something for the audience's benefit, but doesn't directly address the audience. Similar but distinct from an aside, in which the character is speaking in universe but not intended to be heard by other characters (eg, many Shakespeare villains).
The part with them stealing the yellow card from the ref and then smacking him upside the back of the head, then hitting him in the face makes me laugh so friggin' hard. That and them being excited at getting new shoes and running the sponsors over, as well as backhanding the one telling them to calm down. XD Them hitting them in the wrong place because of their names, XD "No, HE'S Iron Head!" The cleaning staff getting annoyed and throwing a broom at them made me snort water out my nose.
The opening scene is something that actually happens quite a bit in soccer. Players are at risk when they play in major games because powerful people wage high risk gambles on them and get very angry if they lose
En internet circula una versión original subtitulada al inglés, con la música original y sin los efectos de sonido de dibujos animados. Pero sí, los subtítulos se parecen mucho de una versión a otra.

You should watch another Stephen chow's legendary movie. I recommend you to watch king of comedy. 1year before Shaolin soccer released. Very hilarious movie. Full of laugh and feel
Lol the level of enjoyment for this film. I saw this when it released when I was 5 but for most my life I thought I imagined it until it showed up in youtube movies a few years ago. I was so excited to watch it again
Your constant expectation of the sterotypical romance trope in this movie is hilarious with it being a Stephen Chow film. As a comedian, Stephen Chow is expectedly self-deprecating, but also talks a lot about how he is always seen by media as a funny guy in funny scenes, and never a handsome movie star in romantic scenes. With this chip on his shoulder, as a filmmaker, Stephen Chow is well known for casting non-actors (several characters in this movie were first-time actors), as well as casting "not so good looking" people. This makes the casting of Zhao Wei a note of comedy in itself, being one of the most beautiful Chinese movie stars at the time being put in disfigured face makeup, then over the top fashionista makeup, and then finally in a bald cap.

There's a LOT of great martial arts movies, with a lot of incredible artists. If you're new to Kung Fu movies and are looking for a way to dip your toes in, I'd suggest starting with an unusual double feature. The first part is Fists Of Fury from 1971, with Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was the OG Kung Fu star. He all but created the martial arts genre in the West. He died at 32, but is still considered by many as the all time best. The second part of this double feature is from 2010 starring Donnie Yen as the character Bruce Lee played in Fists Of Fury. It's called "The Legend Of Chen Zhen". So it's Donnie playing Bruce in a sorta sequel. If you want a more modern, brutal martial arts movie, there's another incredible double feature: The Raid (Redemption), and The Raid 2. These are both a masterclass, with INSANE fight sequences. These are Indonesian, both directed by Gareth Edwards (Star Wars: Rogue One). It's what happens when you hire the very best martial artists in the business, and give them freedom to go wild. These are both rewatch movies. Beyond that, Jackie Chan has a HUGE filmography, stretching way back to the 70's. He's known for insane choreography and doing his own stunts. His movies are usually comedic, especially in the fights.
Jackie Chan Hong Kong recs (I find the dubs to be funnier, especially when Jackie does his own dub) - Police Story series (3 is Supercop, 4 is First Strike), Operation Condor, Who Am I?, Drunken Master & Legend of Drunken Master, Wheels on Meals, and Rumble in the Bronx.
When are you going to watch Kung Fu Hustle (2004)? If you liked Shaolin Soccer (2001), then you will definitely love Kung Fu Hustle (2004). Kung Fu Hustle (2004) is directed, produced, written, and acted as main character by the legendary Stephen Chow himself, same as Shaolin Soccer (2001). So the comedy elements, tight storyline, cool CG elements, characters are all Stephen Chow's signature. The subtitles don't do it justice- translation is off. Also, certain meaning to jokes, statements, etc are more funnier/meaningful in Chinese if you understand the culture, folklore, and history. I'm sure with all cultures and movies. But if you loved the movie you'd appreciate it 10x more knowing the culture. That was an awesome review! First time watching!

As a thespian, methinks Ms Clariss might appreciate some of the absurdities of the acting business from Mr Chow's 'King of Comedy' (1999)!
6:56 - it was originally written in chinese, they translated it in post into english
Must watch Kung Pow! Enter the Fist
its the ultimate kung fu parody
Definitely continue with the Stephen Chow movies. I need a reaction to Forbidden City Cop.
The Spanish version is even more hilarious 😂
They have the same cast too haha great movies
