The video was carefully choreographed and filmed in front of an unsuspecting crowd with the intention of illiciting the exact reaction you had to it! WTF!
Fatboy Slim is a DJ called Norman Cook. He started off as part of a band called The Housemartins which was a very different kind of a sound so you might be interested in checking that out for the contrast! Their biggest hit was Happy Hour.
He then went on to work with other artists and I'd recommend that you check out the Norman Cook remix of Cornershop Brim Full Of Asher.
He truly found his feet when he invented himself as Fatboy Slim. I'd recommend Weapon Of Choice, Right Here Right Now or Funk Soul Brother for a future reaction. He also did a track with an artist called Macy Gray who you really must check out because she probably has the most unique voice you will ever feature! It's called Demons.

This video won best video at the Europe VMA's. At the American VMA's it won Best choreography in a video, Best direction in a video and Breakthrough video. It was nominated for Best dance video as well. This song was everywhere and got tons of rotation on MTV.

The video is great. It's absolutely meant to look like a really amateur local dance group doing flash mob.
At the MTV music awards the group came on did the dance live. It was really big at the time and very memorable.
He often has really great videos (he is a DJ). Weapon of Choice is a great track and an iconic video.

lol Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) had nothing to do with the making of this music video. This was Spike Jonze's creation. He directed it and played the starring role as the dorky dance troop leader. He also made many other famous music videos: Fatboy Slim: "Weapon of Choice" (with iconic actor Christopher Walken dancing and flying)... Beastie Boys "Sabotage" (like a 1970's tv cop show)... Weezer "Buddy Holly" (like an Episode of "Happy Days")... Daft Punk "Da Funk"... Bjork "It's Oh So Quiet"... Notorious B.I.G. "Sky's the Limit"... The Pharcyde "Drop" (the whole video is reversed)... Breeders "Cannonball"... Chemical Brothers "Electrobank"... Weezer "Undone"...

The dancer is movie director Spike Jonze who also appears with the Jackass boys. Fatboy Slim is in the video in the background.. his real name is Norman Cook and he is an english DJ. Check out Weapon of Choice and Right Here Right Now. Both brilliant songs and videos.

This is the demented genius of Spike Jonez, the director of the video, in action. Fatboy Slim hired him and he created this fictional amateur dance company for the video, they did the bizarre choreography themselves and filmed it live on location. Jonze himself plays the leader of the dance company and the reactions of the passersbys are real.

90's randomeness at its best lol, such a classic, this was actually ahead of its time, with the flasmob and the type of video that would go viral on RUclips the following decade lol, totally tongue in cheek and obviously not meant to be taken seriously, and the reactions were totally real, including the guy who turned off the music at some point, btw the main dancer is also the video Director lol, great song too and glad you did enjoy.

When this song came out my nephew was 16 at the time. I was at my sisters and there was bang bang bang coming from upstairs and the ceiling was shaking. We went up and there he was doing the dance moves. He's never lived it down, I even have the song as his contact ringtone on my phone now and he's 38 🤣🤣🤣

Fatboy Slim is truly very creative and I love it. If I can suggest other songs it would be “Rockefeller Skank”, “Weapon of Choice”, and “Right Here, Right Now”. His videos are very unique and that’s why we love them. The music is amazing and trust me you’ll love them all.

They were an Indie guitar band, and were huge in the UK in the mid to late 80s! Lead singer and songwriter Paul Heaton is a genius! He's still having number 1 albums now, 35 years later! When the actor passed away in the show Suddenly Susan back 10 years ago or so his name was David Strickland. They played this in his memory.
This song brought back a memory from my teens. As a group of kids in the local area we would get together and play football (soccer) in the park. Although the youngest, my brother was for his age one of the best players there. Another kid a year older than him performed this as part of a goal celebration once when he scored, inserting his nickname in to the 'celebrate you...' line of the song. Obviously pretty hilarious at the time, it was repeated a few times over the following weeks, but eventually forgotten about until now 😂
It's cool how no matter how many times you've heard a song or seen the clip when you watch someone experiencing it for the first time you really relive that moment (kind of).

Not only do I remember this song because of it's quirky video, but strangely enough, when I was in high school, I had an elective course that one assignment had us create some sort of performance. Someone oddly enough mentioned this song, and we did actually come up with some dance moves to go with this song....being as uncoordinated as I am, it certainly got me out of my comfort zone. I don't recall any of the moves we came up with, but I definitely recall this song. Haha.

Cook also had a band called Beats International. They had a big hit with the number Dub Be Good to Me. A remake of the SOS Band's Just Be Good to Me and containing a bass sample from The Clash's Guns of Brixton. Norman Cook on bass like in Housemartins. The latter had a big hit with Happy Hour and the beautiful acapella number Caravan of Love

This one seems to be in every movie or tv series ever made, and I still love it.
Some fun facts. Punk director Spike Jones came up with this. Classic movie star Mickey Rooney's son choreographed this dance, he was one of the dancers too. He wanted it to look weird and amaturish. This was filmed live at a theater, no warning to the crowd, The guy from FatBoy Slim was standing in the crowd there, with his wife, you can see them on the side.
