Telephone and Born this way are my absolute fav Gaga songs. My kid was little when born this way came out, and believed she was either a majestic blue wolf or a fierce kitty, depending on the day. The line about put your paws up, spoke to her soul. Plus her grandma was (was bc she recently passed away not bc she renounced the gay) a lesbian so when I explained what the song was about she was even more in.
Born this way became a theme tune for the scottish premier league highlight show for like a whole year and it was epic lol.. we also did a season using darkness.. love is only a feeling.. two tunes that hyped you up for some football highlights lol.. not many folk will know this wee bit of info.. but yeah lol.. 😆😍

You see this in some of the imagery here of her getting on the guy's lap, before he pushes the button that sells a ton of her albums (on the computers). In essence the song is about a bad romance with a partner, the video is about her being abused by the music industry and her getting rich off of it.

The music she was creating would be taken away from her, burned as a matter of fact unless she gave in sexually to the powers that be in the record industry. In that interview Gaga cried as she stated she was raped and ended up pregnant by her rapist. The examples are there as you stated. She’s been in the business for 20 years. The secondary meaning in my opinion is valid.

I love the song, but I just can't stomach any glamorization of human trafficking, with the high fashion, luxury, diamonds and whatnot. Not a video for me.
This was 12 years ago ... I'm looking forward to you listening to how she's evolved since then. So amazing! So many people wrote her off in the early days, but boy, she's shown us all how much talent she has. She's a really amazing jazz singer, an incredible pianist, and is just brilliant. A true talent!

I've gained a deep respect for Lady Gaga over time as I've gotten to know more of her music, but honestly I think all her previous videos pale in comparison to "911". It's just that damn good. There are better songs of hers, but I'd argue there probably isn't a better music video.

'marry the night' is probably my fave music video from her, and the 9-1-1 video is great as well. the hits are stuff like poker face, telephone, stupid love, rain on me, born this way. some of her lesser known songs are amazing too, you and i, dope, joanne, diamond heart, come to mama, g.u.y, there's literally too many to name.

You would love Alejandro, she has so many good songs! As for the controversy, her videos are always beyond conventional and older people and conservatives are not a fan of her music videos of course. I remember my mom being somewhat disgusted whenever her videos would play on Much Music. She's been compared to Madonna a lot too both of them are very free and expressive when creating their music, but I still think they have their own style. People say Lady Gaga is a copy of Madonna or the modern version of Madonna it's not true! They are similar but not the same.

Lady Gaga is an anomaly to me. If you were to put her music into a genre it wouldn't be something which I would generally listen to, however she somehow manages to draw me in with her music and videos. She's been compared to Madonna a lot too both of them are very free and expressive when creating their music, but I still think they have their own style. People say Lady Gaga is a copy of Madonna or the modern version of Madonna it's not true! They are similar but not the same.
?? nobody had any issue with Gaga b/c of their (or her) politics. When she had hits, everyone listened. Maybe some older folks found her costumes a little too ridiculous (like the meat dress).
p.s. the only (minor) controversy was a copyright claim over her song 'Shallow.'

I haven't heard this song in years since I was a kid, just sitting on the sofa watching the music channel. And watching this song back brought a tear to my eye, because it really put things in perspective for me with how good music used to be back then compared to now. Like, people like ariana grande and anne marie don't come close to the likes of Lady Gaga, and it's too bad kids have to look up to that trash and will never be able to appreciate true musical greatness

Lady Gaga is an anomaly to me. If you were to put her music into a genre it wouldn't be something which I would generally listen to, however she somehow manages to draw me in with her music and videos. She has a magnetism that I cannot figure out nor do I want to, I just enjoy. A really exceptional artist.

Gaga is part singer part performance artist. She's extremely talented, can't believe you don't know more about her. She's incredibly versatile and yes, sometimes controversial I guess. There have been a few controversies about Lady Gaga, all pretty absurd so I won't go into them, but recently her dogs were kidnapped and her dog walker shot. That might be what you're thinking of. She's a family friend in a way. I know her mom, dad and especially her aunt who's my father's wife's best friend and we see her a lot although I haven't met Stefi yet although my father's wife has.
