Could be ulcers, too. Especially if it's a new behavior. Anti inflammatories can cause ulcers, especially bute. I have a horse who started being nippy after developing ulcers. It's not fair to punish a horse who is trying to speak out through unwanted behavior if it's pain related. Especially because they dont act that way when they're not hurting.
Thank for the video, this is great advice. It is very straight forward when you have your horse in the halter with lead rope if they nip or bite you can immediately back them up and correct them. My horses know that, and would never dream about nipping at me when they are in the halter with lead rope, as they know once I put them in the halter or bridle, they are on the clock and they will act extremely professional and ready for work. But what about if they are not in the halter and lead rope and do a nip at you as you are on the ground walking by them cleaning up there area? Occasionally one of my horses does this with me when she is not in the halter with a lead rope. She will back up off of my body language and I have done this with her, but still occasionally she does a play nip on my arm if I walk by her when she is free walking around the corral. Any recommendations for this case?
