Nice to see some new content from you! :) Personally I decided not to clean my car when the temperature was sub-zero. But the other day the weather was mild and the temperature around 7 degrees C, I got the car as clean as can be :)
Excellent Video, usually I would leave the cars over the winter but some useful tips on here. I usually try and get the car waxed and polished just at the end of October and then do a quick wash when I can.
Thanks for another great video love the commentary & the sense of humour, looking forward to your video of what products you use especially the autosmart products.
I noticed that you wash a panel and then jet wash it straightaway. Is this the recommended process to follow as I wash all of my car and then jet wash after.
Great shot of the Aston Martin emblem with the ice crystals covering it in the beginning. You should send that picture to Aston Martin! I am confident they could use it, if not appreciate it.
A nice video and you have a good choice of kit, like the seal skins and those salomon goretex xa's pro/speed cross? Which btw have a pocket in the tongue for the zip laces. Sadly buddy if that was my car you wouldn't be washing it again with those hand methods.
Forgive me for not using two buckets, washing in slow straight lines and patting the paintwork dry but when I'm working on an already swirly car in the freezing cold against the clock completely free of charge while having to film myself doing so it's just not going to happen I'm afraid! A paid detail wash off camera on a swirl free car on the other hand...
Car Cleaning Guru Fair response, obviously you get my point from watching the process and seeing how peticlus you were that it seemed odd you'd missed it. Enjoyed the vid too and I'll me having a look at what else you post. Can I ask - My neighbour opposite has started using the waterless carwash which made me whince - what are your thoughts as I find it painful to watch (8 cloths and some spray) He Claims no scratches but... Anyway look forward to hearing back...
Not sure if you know this, but some of the Aston Martin DB9s have a problem with their rear windows breaking with a bang if the rear defrost is used for too long, especially on really cold days. This happened to my friend and was a costly fix.
I’ve started prepping my car for winter from Oct-Nov by washing then sealing each time. I already have three coats of sealant. This should protect the car’s paint as much as possible from the snow and salt.
Beware of washing with hot water in cold temps if you have any cracked windows lol. Yes, I wasn't thinking and learned the hard way. At the beginning of the video, what was the solution in the pump up sprayer? Thanks.
I posted this video on Car Throttle, a community with thousands of car enthusiasts and also a lot of RUclipsrs, which is mostly powered by content posted by its users. I'm not getting paid or anything. I just like to share the things I like. Your videos are great, and I think checking out that site could be a great opportunity for you to reach out to more people and get more people on your channel.
actually.. about that pressure washing thing in cold weather. i have a bmw 528 and i was pressure washing my car in the dead of winter in usa (ice and snow conditions). this was a city local car wash (manual not automatic wash) and i had no signs, tears, cracks, bubbles, bulges or otherwise on my clearcoat paint and ive noticed clear flat pieces were being washed up and getting stuck to my windows and car, assuming it was ice i washed off the body, it was actually clear coat from my trunk and roof. i dont recommend power washing unless its at a low setting. the water temp was roughly room temp warm or colder, the wax setting would have been hot though.
Indoor car washes also work in Winter. If for some reason someone reallyyyy wants to wash their vehicle in the Winter. I suggest a Indoor car washes. They are heated and you can drive in and even dry the car yourself while indoors. And even after you've dried it yourself, you can drive through the air dryer.
When it's really cold, too cold for a pair of Wellingtons, I wear full fisherman's waders which keep me incredibly warm and dry, also a pair of long gauntlets from, say B&Q, with a pair of ordinary gloves underneath keeps my fingers from freezing.
I wish I could live on the edge, in Las Vegas we dropped down to 35 degree Fahrenheit and I won't even DARE to go outside haha I can't imagine going into the negatives lol
If you have a pressure washer with a pipe for connecting to a water butt etc, Use a plastic kitchen bin, Fill it with very warm water, Use your electric kettle to help heat the water if need be, Then you have a temporary heated pressure washer, If you don`t have the electrical connections because of where you park to your dwelling, You can buy a 12 volt pressure washer kit on eBay for around thirty pounds and do the same thing, The main trick is to wash the wheel arches out with cold water first so the salt does not dissolve to much before being washed away
Right off the bat he doesn't know how car heats works. Most of you probably know but for the people who do not know or dont understand it, in order for the car to start blowing hot air to warm up the interior of the car, the motor MUST be warm for that to happen due to the fact that it takes the heat from the motor and the fan blows it out. That is why people say to turn your heat and fan all the way up when your car is overheating to attempt to remove the heat from the motor. Hope this helped anyone!
Absolutely love your videos. Would you do one on your gear and supplies? I like your process and I'm trying to replicate it here in the Southeastern U.S. with my 2 cars.
+MichaelB277 If and when I get a nice van back on the road I want to do a series of videos following the build, how I kit it out and what equipment I use etc!
Do they use large quantities of salt/sand and calcium chloride on the roads where you are? If so, could you recommend how you neutralize and clear away such damaging materials? For reference, i have been using a rust neutralizer from a company called rust depot ever since i watched a few friends run their motorcycles at the Bonneville Salt flats speed trials. It works great, but I am always curious to hear from the opinion of a professional.
Only trouble is that all the water used for washing freezes on the driveway and pavement overnight! I remember washing my car one cold winters day and couldn’t get in it the next morning because all the moisture around the door seals and locks froze solid😂 But I have washed a car with snow falling-that made me finish the job bloody quick.....
Amazing organized helpful video, really appreciate it for my mobile detailing business , and how cold it gets during winter. Any suggestions for when snow hits?
Does ice damage the paintwork? This isn't specifically a cleaning question; but when you drive off with thawing panels, dies that shifting ice scratch the paint?
MKRM27 if the car was dirty and then water froze on top of the dirt then potentially it could scratch the paint if it slides off. Ice by itself is unlikely to damage the paint as by the time it works free it has pretty much thawed out
Don't forget to use a heavy duty barrier cream on your hands plus regular use of a moisturizer i.e. whenever your hands have been in water containing chemicals or soap. It's not 'girly'. It's common ****ing sense. Army insists on it. A soldier whose hands are sore/inflamed is as good as 'out of action'.
Thanks for some great wintertime advice. Would it be a good idea to give the car a treatment with some spraywax as well? Som of them even bond nicely to wet cars.
how much water in ltres would you say you use from start to finish ? I'm thinking of getting a 20 ltre portable water barrel which you can connect a pressure washer to , if I was to go mobile. do you use a portable generator for your George and polishers ? Do you use a van or large estate car ? sorry for the questions , I'm debating on going mobile myself.
+Jaye Dee Really depends on the size of the car and how dirty it is. I'm just working out of an estate car at the mo but when I had a van I ran a 150 litre water tank and genny, yes.
always pleased to see your vids! I have learnt so much from watching all your clips. hoping you will do another range rover evoque detailing bid soon....
Thanks for the reply Guru. A new car is due for delivery in January. It'll get it's first detailing as soon as I can after it's inaugural drive home some 100 miles or so. Over a long weekend (weather pending) I plan a wash and dry, then use a paint cleanser followed by Meguire's NXT wax. I have used this wax before and it's relatively easy to work with but have never used it in the winter months. If it's really cold I have a pair of Sealskinz mitts which I use for running, so I thought I could cover these with plastic bags to keep the wax off the mitts as I work with the wax. The neighbours will really think I've lost it.
120000 miles on an Aston? That's how it should be used!
120,000 km or around 75,000 miles.. still impressive
It's 120,000 miles. We don't use km in the UK.
Oh wow did not know that
Hence why we use mph - miles per hour, instead of kph

Reminds me of Courage The Cowardly Dog.

+Car Cleaning Guru. do you have any suggestions on how to wash a car using Car plan triple wax shampoo
refering to "since i like to live on the edge?"

I don't wash my car as often because of the 30 degree weather and you're doing it in -2 ?!?!? Mad respect for you man, love the videos

He's washing his car in 28.4° F so it's still cold but not as much as you think

Love all of your car cleaning videos, can't wait for more!
Love Aston Martins looks wise, no idea how they are mech wise but I'm sure they're better than my current ride......
Whats your thoughts on waterless wash n shine products?
I'm more concerned about the water freezing up on the driveway than on the car itself. How do you prevent this?
Lay grit or salt down on the driveway 👍🏻
Wash it in the summer
I noticed that you wash a panel and then jet wash it straightaway. Is this the recommended process to follow as I wash all of my car and then jet wash after.
That’s right
He literally explained it in the video
i have just entered under dimension with these videos

120,000 miles. Mint! someone who actually uses their exotic 👌
Exotic? It's a jag in drag !!
No mate, that's the DB7 which shared the underpinnings of the 96-06 XK. The DB9 was a whole new platform I believe
Yes mate sorry that's the one ha I stand corrected
It actually shared the underpinnings of the XJ-S.
Thanks Joe you did a fantastic job looks fantastic on the video.
Just wish it hadn't snowed on it before I got home to cover it 😢

something from my experience from here in Canada, is dry your door jams unless you want the doors to freeze shut on you..

If i have to wash my car during winter i use those disposable latex gloves. For me they make a huge difference when using hour or cold water.
A question please. If there is ice on the panels and you wash over that ice, could it scratch the paint? Love your videos.
Can't say I've ever scratched a car with ice before but I would guess so, yes.

do you always use the customers water or do you carry it in a van
Used to carry on board water, now I'm just operating out of the car I have to ask for an outside tap.
lovely car, you can't beat an Aston

Water pipes freeze in the winter here so I at least go to the local touchless car wash. It's pretty darn effective if the paint is protected.
Great i do hope you are going to do more
Ooooh boy, I can't imagine what a new pair of headlights may cost on a DB9.
How about large size long rubber gauntlets over gloves to keep your hands from freezing.? I bought mine from somewhere like Tool Station.

Is it OK to wax in the winter?
Yes, it may just be a little harder to buff off if there's moisture in the air etc.
Thanks for the reply Guru. A new car is due for delivery in January. It'll get it's first detailing as soon as I can after it's inaugural drive home some 100 miles or so. will this work in -10°C in northern Norway, we only have light (not even low sun) between 11:30 and 13:30?
