  • Hi! I'm Sass with Oakleaf and Ocotillo Soap Company. Today I'm going to show you how easy it is to make basic melt and pour soap. Weigh your glycerin soap according to the mold capacity. Microwave in 20 second spurts until melted. Be careful when you remove your soap from the microwave as it can sometimes bubble up. For embeds you want your soap around 120 degrees. However, today, we just need to melt, scent, color, and pour. I use a knife to help break up the soap chunks. Spray out bubbles with rubbing alcohol. Scent with 1ml fragrance oil per 1 ounce of soap or less. It's always good to check with the fragrance oil manufacturer for fragrance to soap volume safety.
Here, I use 3 ml of fragrance for 5.25 oz. of soap.
Time for color. I like to pre-mix my colorant with glycerin. Just add enough to fully incorporate all of the color. Now shake until there is no more movement in the container. This keeps the mica from flying around your work-space. At this point it only takes a little bit of color.
Time to pour. There was an unmelted chunk of soap. This will be unnoticed in the finished soap, but try and get the soap fully melted before you pour, to avoid possible splotches. Spray out the last bubbles with the alcohol. Wait until completely cool before unmolding.
