The Marshmallow Test - How Willpower Affects Our Lives

- The Marshmallow Test was an experiment conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel in the 1960s. Children were given a choice; either they could have one marshmallow now, or wait and have two marshmallows later.
How could the children's ability to delay gratification with this simple test of willpower predict how their lives would play out?
For those of us with low willpower, there are tricks and techniques which we can all use to improve our self-control.

This is the type of channel that's going to blow up all of a sudden. Great video, deserves more views.
Too bad they made 20 videos and quit
Well, reading your comment one year later I have no clue what the video or channel is or is about. Let me see here...
@@ImTheMarchetti Damn, that video was actually pretty good. Wonder why they stopped producing content...?
CaliforniaCarpenter7 maybe the guy died
I think it’s highly possibly that the person or people owning this account would come back if there was an upsurge in views and subs no doubt 💯
0:23 I love that this man hopped onto screen without legs.
Turns out that all this really tested was the home environment - wealthier, more secure households produced children who were able to believe in promises.
More to the point IQ and success are linked.
Wether rich or poor you should never lie to your children
Your videos are wonderful summaries of interesting concepts, please keep making them! I'm almost certain that with a little persistence your channel will gain popularity.
Thanks, I'll keep at it!
Smart by Design I wish you kept at it and didn’t quit
@@SmartbyDesign hey can you start uploading again

I think I came across a video that explained that the marshmallow test's results were a matter of correlation and not causation and that the kids that waited didn't have more willpower but didn't have such a strong crave because they were richer and already had more candy whenever they wanted something like that. I am in trouble either way :(
As an adult you can take a little more charge of your impulses now that you have some insight--which is better than come up with excuses and trying to invalidate the methodology and implications of this research.
@@BOBMAN1980 if this was directed to me then I made no excuses and didn't try to invalidate it but I don't see why doing that is wrong. That's how research works ... You try to invalidate it and when you fail it's robust but when you succeed more research is needed or you have corrected some mistake. Maybe it isn't as robust as you think or maybe the video I saw was wrong but either way I am not trying to avoid any implications
Even if that were the case for sure, it would not invalidate the results. It seems that one of the very many advantages of being rich is the development of better self control, at least in certain areas. This is part of why everyone wants to be rich, of course it's usually better!
I took the Marshmellow now, then sold it to another child for his $50.
It depends on what exactly you're delaying
Great video on The Marshmallow Test! Loved the illustrations!
Thanks!
Good content... Irritating Background Music!
This explains a lot....
Or you don’t eat any marshmallows because they’re bad for your health and you are thinking very long term 🧠
Its all about prefrontal cortex
what. . . what about the kids that just didn't like marshmallows???
😂😂
that's the same example of guys who don't like woman at all but somehow attract the most stunning models and can have any girl they want and just don't care.
Wish the background music was low
This is correlation, not causality
they should do the marshmellow test on starving kids and elimate the weakest ones and take bets
One Marshmallow-er 😔
I need the willpower to stop watching RUclips videos
There's no such thing as willpower.
This implies, that religious People, who willfully delay gratification for the afterlife, whatever that means, have the strongest willpower and with that are best suited for hard tasks. Think about that while choosing your next president.
Atheist have been triggered.
U r just playing with words and this make no sense at all, flop efforts
How so?
I disagree
