Over the past 7 seasons, there has only been one constant. Sam's train luck being absolutely horrible.
Sam has a better strategy, but Ben and Adam have better luck
lmao haven’t watched it yet

Sam: *literally just standing in the middle of a platform*
Why was he not doing a challenge though?

I like how you can hear Ben's struggles at burpee number 4. Out of 50.
The sincere horror in his voice when he said "Oh my god" after the 3rd burpee was something else. Every bad decision he'd ever made flashed through his mind at that point, culminating in his decision to do 50 burpees.
Poor Ben! You'd think these guys would try to prepare for the physical challenges...
@@myladycasagrande863 no one would prepare for this video by doing 50 burpess. God they are horrible to do.
It was his penance for offending a good part of Europe. Lmao
@@aprophetofrng9821 He has no one to blame but himself and Adam (since they usually come up with the challenges)
When Ben casually chose 50 Burpees I was like "oh no."
He was sucking wind pretty bad at 4 and 5.
But you know, I bet he wouldn't have estimated the population correctly, and had he done that, the whole season might have gone differently. We just don't know yet
isn't that something you can do on the train? get up, go to the tambour, do like 5 or 10 and return to your seat, rinse and repeat
@@warmike I don't think you're allowed to work on challenges while on transport
I find it incredibly funny how much of this Jet Lag revolves around train infrastructure not functioning.
That's why it's more fun than an Uber chase.
Hey, that's not fair! Sometimes it also revolves around plane infrastructure not functioning!
After them coming off of the Japanese trains, these must seem like pure rng.

@@cookieshop_4668 Compormise: 's'-Her-t'ogen-bosch''. That way we can all be wrong together.
The "find the town hall" and "find the oldest thing" challenges are the perfect sort of thing to do in a game like this. The most fun parts of Jet Lag are when we really get to see the places that you're visiting, so it's nice to highlight what's local to the European towns you stop by.
I think those are great with Sam specifically cos he can use his cultural knowledge in Europe, just as the burpee challenge is super entertaining when Ben does it because he's impossible not to root for haha and Adam just seems to get these amazing streaks of luck that feel like an adrenaline rush
I love how Adam is cheering for Ben even when he's chasing him
It's just impossible not to.
I feel the need to root for one person throughout the whole series, but I really just end up getting excited for whoever is running at the time!
Same. Although if I had to choose, I'd choose Ben simply because his finish location is at the top of a Swiss mountain and that's pretty cool.

I tend to root for Ben because he has this "lost puppy" attitude I find adorable. But I can't not admire Adam's and Sam's great strategic minds.

16:45 for non-Dutch speakers: the 's is a shortened version of the old 'des' which is an archaic version of 'the'. The full name would be Des Hertogenbosch but in speech the 's gets attached to the next word, so you would say 'Sertogenbos' (ch is silent in this case).
However this place is kind of an exception to that rule, as it's usually referred to as 'Den Bosch'. So it's very easy to get this one wrong :)
This is the single weirdest place name on the continent, and my country has many abominations of its own.

I loved Ben saying the most inflammatory thing, and Adam trying to subtly lead him away from being persona non grata in the Low Countries and he just doubles down.
I burst out laughing when he said "A man by the name of Jesus Christ" and Adam'd laugh ahah, so sincere
From a german point of view, he has a very pragmatic perspective on the question of european borders. 😂
I mean, the region calling itself Benelux doesn't help.
And it's not that inflammatory. It's more inflammatory to call the Netherlands Holland.
@@dodinas4597 First the region is not called benelux, that is just the name of the three countries combined. Second, Holland is the name of the country, even in the football games, there is no inflamation in there!
@@mikatu Yeah the people of the Netherlands have a different opinion on the "Holland" thing than tourism boards, multinational corporations and other large companies. Truth is, Holland is the richest and most populous region of the Netherlands, so most of those companies are situated there. Logically, they don't mind the two names being conflated. However, the other 11 million Dutch people who do NOT live in Holland might be a bit more peeved about the situation
I am very impressed with Ben for not only being able to do 50 (loosely defined) burpees in a fairly short period of time, but having the wherewithal to stop midway through and do the rest somewhere else to evade his chasers.
Sam managing to find the town hall in like 10 minutes is actually impressive
Most Dutch towns and small cities are nicely packed together with a train station quite close to the center and a recognisable historic town hall. It's still impressive, but much easier than in most other places I would imagine
@@swiftlymurmurs1825 nah but there's actually a bunch of churches and older buildings that look so indistinguishable too, the flags are the best way to tell tbh. Plus some of them are just weirdly modern buildings too which look so basic
"See Something Old" might be my new favorite challenge from any season, except the ones that involve Ben getting drunk obv
Can i just say how hilarious Sam has become? Earlier seasons he took the game super seriously and wouldn't enjoy any disruptions (making him somewhat unwatchable imo), but hes now become a much more enjoyable person to watch.
Sam is incredibly patient. idk how he does it to be honest, I would be SO angry if something like this happened to me
i think he might be chilling a lil more due to his injury as well ;)
The "very comfortable" train seats (the red ones) are special first-class seats that you've to pay extra for. Oh, and the carriages with "S" that Sam was in are silent carriages, you're not supposed to talk there 😂
Also never expected to see jet lag in Eindhoven but I'm here for it
They have first class interrail tickets. They talked about it in the podcast

Ben better realize he has such a huge lead, do challenges to get 7,500 coins, fly from Brussels to Geneva, then take the train to Zermatt
I'm not sure that's the best plan because sam and adam would arrive at the airport and catch him before the flight because flight from Brussels to Geneva wouldn't be that common
Problem with planes is that they fly too infrequently, not always at good times.
Trains you can hop on at any time, and run every hour or two.
@@andybtw1586as long as Ben can buy his ticket, he can go through security and avoid getting tagged on that side
@@andybtw1586did some quick research
LX791 leaves at 9:15 for Geneva 7 days a week.
The 7:42 train from Breda gets into Brussels Airport at 8:50
It’s certainly worth the risk if he can get the coins, and assuming the flight isn’t full.
there is also SN2729 going to Zurich departing Brussels at 6:55, which pretty much means he’s completely safe, although that doesn’t operate on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
That Adam run was something. Even after a full Sam run and the start of a fantastic Ben run, the day ends in Adamland.
It's because of how rural France is that it gave him the chance to really get ahead because of the infrequency of trains. Whereas in western Germany and the Netherlands everything runs every 30 minutes or hourly so you can always keep chasing.
I want to take a moment and thank you for your considerate use of captions. Well, if Ben makes it to Switzerland there's a perfect opportunity for him to get boned by SBB as well.
In this case it's actually ProRail that's to blame since NS is not responsible for infrastructure anymore.
The pattern here is things generally work fine in the Netherlands, but occasionally the whole network breaks down because everything is very interconnected and vulnerable to problems at a single node.
Whereas in Germany nothing is ever on time so they have become experts at keeping things moving with a disrupted schedule and they will send an intercity train over a single 60km/h track if they have to.
I don't know what's worse honestly 😭
Funfact, I was in Breda on the same day as you guys. They had a problem with the signal and then the overhead wires, and I needed to head to s'Hertogenbosch to catch the ICE with the group I was travelling with. Sadly we were not able to catch it, and needed to take the NS service to Brussels to take the ICE from there. If the train would've been running, I guess I would've seen you.
Unlucky, I would cherish a chance to see these guys

I think the rest period rule should be if you take a train and the first stop is after the rest period, you should have to wait to start the next morning however minutes your train went past the rest period the night before. So if the rest period starts at 8pm and you get on a train that goes until 8:12, you should have to wait an extra 12 minutes to start the next morning.

You guys actually made me think about my own language for a second, but I managed to kinda translate 's-Hertogenbosch to English for you:
1. " 's" is short for "des" which is translated (I believe) to "this", this is used in words like "-'s-morgens" (translated to: "this morning" or "every morning" depending on context)
2. "Hertogen" (plural, singular is: "Hertog")is someone living in a castle/fort and usually owns quite a bit of land so I assumed this is translated to: "Lord",or ,as this is plural: "Lords"
3. "Bosch" is an old-dutch spelling of "Bos" which translates to: "Forest".
So all together this is:
This Lords Forest.
,or if you change it up a bit:
The Lord's Forest.
A hertog is actually a duke! :)
or you could just say den bosch
I believe des is actually an archaic genitive case, and not to be translated into "this". A good example is "heer des huize", which is somewhat the same as "heer van het huis". So it refers to something belonging to another thing. Not sure how it applies to 's Hertogenbosch tho
Adding to this, some languages have Den Bosch's name as "Ducal Forest" or "Duke's Forest".
In French it's "Bois-le-Duc", in Italian it's "Boscoducale", and in Spanish it's "Bolduque" (a weird contraction of "Bosque del Duque"), which sounds really funny.
@@yann1ck666Yes you're right, it is the old genitive case for "the duke's forest". Same for 's-Gravenhage (the count's hague) instead of Den Haag.

If I am not mistake something like that happened in the other Tag season. They don't spend coins by the minute, they spend the amount, so they won't spend all of their money if the train gets stuck or something like that and they spend more time than what they thought they would on the train, but on the bad side they just loose all the money spent if they can't complete the travel.

Adam and Sam should have been going to Roosendaal if that was still possible in time. In the morning they had to be able to take the 6.21 to Antwerpen instead of the 7.42 to Brussel

@@aselwyn1 locals playing this game would be totally broken, they'd be unbeatable.
No, they could not get to Roosendaal because the train to Vlissingen was cancelled because of the signal issue as you can see at 32:35
@@michielwessels48 Well, most likely they still did a IC from Breda to Roosendaal or if that was still a possible thing, to Dordrecht and then to Roosendaal.
@@Cheese_Maps12 No, this is not a possibility.
You can see on his phone there is no intercity to Roosendaal since the Vlissingen train is cancelled. On top of that you can see it already is 7pm on his screen (a few shots earlier you can see it is 6:46PM when they still were in the train), which means if there was an intercity service to Roosendaal that was not cancelled they would not be on time for the latest option (the 7:14PM from Roosendaal to Antwerpen) anyway.
You are probably looking into the weekdays schedule, but judging by the fact that the train terminates in Vlissingen instead of Roosendaal, this is probably recorded in the weekend. On top of that if you look in the NS international planner app to the trip between Antwerpen and Breda you can see both the options (the regional and the intercity train). But in weekends the regional train via Roosendaal leaves later than the IC train from Breda.
Since one is abled to see the different options from Breda to Antwerpen and their earliest option is the 7:42 I think this is recorded on a Saturday and therefore the next day is Sunday, with no early options.
Going to Roosendaal via Dordrecht would not be effective since this journey takes almost a hour and because you can see on his phone it is 7PM, with one hour to the rest period. So waiting in Breda would be a better plan.
