He didn't really know what he was doing in Luxembourg, that was mostly just "this is probably the best decision" while he had no idea Sam and Adam were there, but he *definitely* knew what he was doing getting to Bar-le-Duc. He figured Sam and Adam could possibly be in Metz while he was waiting for his train so he hid, and just the idea of getting that train and throwing Sam and Adam off was genuinely good gameplay, if not just plain smart.

It would be interesting though to reduce the accuracy of the trackers. Like delaying it by 15 minutes or reducing the accuracy by 500m or something. So you would have to catch the runner at strategic spots. Getting on and of trains, searching trains etc. At a larger station the runner has a good chance to get away like that, but not a perfect chance. There are two runners and many stations do not have too many options to get to platforms etc.

I think Adams problem was that he was diguising and running away. I thought it would be best to hide in a crowded place with multiple levels as a big train station or a shopping mall. Then the disguise might give you the edge of maybe being overlooked once so that you can dodge the chasers if you have an overlay of a few minutes, like with Ben, when he had "only" to survive ten minutes.

I feel like the real strength of Ben as a player is that he seems equally comfortable with both thinking strategically and just vibing lol. I think Sam and Adam both cling to logic and strategy a lot more than Ben does. Ben made some really smart moves as the runner in this season, but he also got thrown some curveballs and made them work by rolling with the punches, trusting his gut, and just staying calm and hoping for the best when it seemed like his back was up against a wall. It seemed like that combination of brains and vibes ended up being confusing for Sam and Adam because they assumed there had to be a way to logically deconstruct what Ben was doing and then outmanoeuvre him, and when they couldn't figure out his strategy, they assumed it was because Ben was five steps ahead. In reality, he was just much more adaptable in his approach which meant it was harder to pin down. Anyways, congratulations Ben!! I was rooting for you this season, so glad you pulled it off!

Makes me think the most ruthless strategy would actually be to make a break for the nearest large national park (or similar wilderness-type area) within your winning zone, go for a hike as far from roads as possible, and camp out through the duration. Would be terrible to watch but probably unbeatable through the combo of bad signal throwing off the trackers and also no opportunities for them to catch up using vehicles.

  • @Spaztar

Ben having no clearly obvious strategy, while simultaneously trying to strategize seems to be the optimal way to play Tag Across Europe. Adam and Sam are always making the clearly optimum moves that will get them towards their destination, which makes them easy to predict. Ben just ambles along going like "this seems pretty all right, I have no idea if they're on to me or not". Transferring to the train to Bar-Le-Duc though was an outside of the box thinking move that even transportation savant Sam didn't think of doing, and it secured him the win.
Luck obviously plays a huge factor too, he had no clue that he was swerving them at Howald, and could have been easily caught. Also, he made a huge gamble going for the transfer to Bar-Le-Duc without enough coins, and pulled basically the best card he could have gotten at that exact time (a curse that wouldn't matter with so little time left in the game, that gave him the money he needed, and he didn't even have to do a challenge). Plus, the simplicity of just hiding in a photo booth near his train-- no fancy disguises, no big brain misdirections, nothing -- is just great to see.
It's like Adam said "How can you hate him for that?"

This edition of Tag Across Europe might be more exciting, more dramatic, but super enjoyable than the first. One runner nearly making to his destination and another runner with a run so insane, it's more vibes than pure strategy. I still can't imagine that despite all that chaos, we're a hundred miles (or kilometres) from the start and yet it's another Jet Lag classic. It might probably one of the best seasons I've ever seen. -Escape Sam and Adam in Paris because his train got delayed
-Outsmart them by getting on the train at Saint Quentin to Brussels and not to Amien
-Juke them on the train in Howald and tricking them into thinking that he was going to Luxembourg
-Outsmart them in Metz by hiding in a photo booth.

I think Tag is definitely a sustainable format for recurring seasons. But as mentioned in the Layover S7 was deliberately kept exactly the same as S3 inc. any mistakes - and it would be really awesome to see a revamped Tag happen in a different area, say further north to UK or Scandinavia, south to Iberia or Italy, or east to the ex-Soviet countries.
One of the reasons why I enjoyed S2 and S4 so much was they really had a globetrotting vibe with the unpredictable possibilities of ending up in so many cool and different locations - I’d want to see that again if Tag happens again but elsewhere.

Adam: 4 Wins (Race To Circumnavigate The Globe, Tag Across Europe, Battle 4 America, Capture The Flag)

Toby: 1 Win (Race to the End of the World)
    Brian: 1 Win (Connect 4)
    Scotty: 0 Wins
    Joseph: 0 Wins
(Note: I am not counting the Pilot Season "Crime Spree" that is exclusive to Nebula so please no spoilers!)
This finale was very stressful and nerve-wracking but we can finally rejoice, as Ben becomes the first person to tie with Adam since he pulled ahead in Season 3! How ironic that his lead ends right where it started: tag :P

Hey, that was actually very fun to watch!
If you were to play Jet Tag in Europe again, I suggest you moving a bit to the east and starting in Poland. Here, trains are slower than in France, Germany or any other countries in the West Europe, so that would make things interesting.

Ben pulling the double juke and then getting caught with a high 5 is just a mood.

How did Ben and Sam not notice they were both not only on the same floor, but on the SAME FREAKIN TRAIN HALL? His game would be up had Sam just turned his head a few seconds earlier.
And yes, EVERY SINGLE CELL IN MY BODY SCREAMED AT BOTH CLOSE CALLS THESE LAST TWO EPISODES. What A RUSH!

Ben casually outgamed them by accident while simultaneously almost losing. What an epic series.

Was playing GeoGusser today and got a round inside a train station. I turn a corner and see a little photo booth on my left and I think to myself, this looks so familiar. All of a sudden it hits me. And sure enough, a 5k guess on the Metz train station.

Ben chilling in a phone booth while Sam and Adam run around searching for him might be one of the greatest Jet Lag moments 🔥🔥🔥

Ben winning by that fluke of the chasers missing him on the platform and then hiding in a photo booth was so lucky and made for a great finale
