I like it. I think the hand lettering on there gives it character...originality. Did way better than I could have. I’d have to cheat with stencils to get words on something like that. Great job!
Thanks! I’m trying to get to the point where I just write it out with no mistakes and no outline or tracing. (That May never happen lol. It’s been a lot harder to do than I though!)
I freehand a lot of my words on signs, etc. I really love your writing, especially your first attempt, looks really good! I have been trying to figure what to use on my ol’ bread box! So happy I watched your, I believe I have those pens, thank you!!
Rule of thumb, down strokes are thick upstrokes are thin. I like using a round 6 and a 1 script liner. I put the basic letters on with the script liner and come back and reinforce the down strokes with the 6. Easy. You need to rest your pinkie on the board as a pivit point. PS for me artist brushes and paint is way easier than the pens.p
If you want to practice more, print out your lettering on computer, then turn it over and o over the letters with graphite or chalk. Lay it Down on your surface and trace over the letters with a stylus or dull pencil to transfer the lettering. Then use your brush markers to go over the lettering. It will give you more confidence while you learn to adjust the pressure to make thick to thin line work. Also eliminates the need for penciled in guidelines that have to be erased later. Spray finished lettering with workable fixative before using a top coat...top coat will smear the ink. Fixative will allow added layers of water soluble media without affecting the layers underneath. This is much better than your earlier lettering. It takes practice, like anything else, to gain confidence and get to the level you want to be. I am currently working on graphite portraits....sheesh...so much practicing!! But I get better everyday because I do one face a day. Keep it up...you’ll be a pro on no time.
All I can say is that I'm glad I don't live near you guys. I'd go broke buying all your stuff. Zeb you did a really great job. Cut yourself some slack as we all have learning curves! It's beautiful and I'd buy it in a heartbeat!
I hand letter all of my signs. I think you did a really good job. My advice to you is remember don’t get nervous it’s just a sign you can paint over it and do it over and over and over. I think your issue is you get nervous and you’re afraid to mess up. You did a wonderful job a really nice job. And you will find that will sell very fast. I would not get nervous and relax and do your thing and if you do mess up oh well another coat of paint start over and you can go multiple times until you get it the way you like it. I hope that this helps have a great day.
You could have printed it out in reverse place on the wood ink down and soak the back in acetone it would leave an imprint for you to follow or leave as is
When I used to do calligraphy- you have to hold the chisel tip at a certain angle and it will help do the thick/thin effects you desire. Keep going- looks good!!!!
I have sealed them in the past but once it’s sat for a couple hours the markers seem to be very permanent. I can’t wipe them off with soap and water. I didn’t seal this one.
Good job! Go talk to your local tattoo artists for some good tips and pointers. They have to do hand lettering all the time and may have some tricks of the trade to help you get better at it. I think you did awesome!
Start with the middle letter in the middle of your design field. Then work in both directions to center your design. This can get a little confusing as one can get lost in the lettering and easily misspell. So it is best the write the word on a piece of paper and concentrate on each letter. You'll get better at this the more you do this... Practice, practice.
If you would place your letters down first with light pencil for a guide that will help. Also watch a person on you tube do calligraphy. There are up stroke and down strokes that you can use that make it easier. Good job..turned out pretty good.
It helps me to not think of the whole word, but each stroke of the letter as a separate piece. Make a straight line and a curved line, not a "B," for example. Does that make sense? I'm still learning and to me lettering is so much harder than drawing. Love your videos!
Thank you so much for this much needed lesson for myself...looks good...tfs...🌻🌻🌻
Zeb, you never cease to amaze me... what CAN’T you do, for Pete’s sake?
Lol. I can’t do this well, yet! I’m gonna get it figured out though. 👍
Turned out good!
Looks good! Good work

Going to get these markers. Looks great.
I’m also shaky!!! I usually use my other hand to brace my trimmers, again, very nice!!
Very Nice !
The freestyle bread box! Shaky hands but nerves of steel committing to go stencil free. Charmingly adorable Zeb!
Thanks! I’m determined to master it. It feels like I’m back in the 3rd grade learning cursive again. I don’t think they even teach cursive anymore. 😂
Jami Ray Vintage they dont need it to keyboard!
Sure don’t!
I actually write in all caps when I write so all this cursive is a stretch already lol
Have you considered a projector? My husband has one in place of a TV and I’ve used it to project images on my wall and paint that way 🙃
That sounds like cheating and I love it!
Jami Ray Vintage 😅 I almost started that comment as “I don’t know how you feel about cheating, but...”
Lol. I’m always about faster process, better results!
I love the color of Zeb's shirt today... It's my Fav.
No stereotype of men can't write nicely, this man with markers is remarkable!

Oh wow! Would love to see your portrait! Great tips! Thank you!
Jami Ray Vintage Oh thanks...you can see some of my sketches on IG @vintageontheridge
Looks great Zeb😊👍👍👍
Thank you!
Great job! My daughter and I took one of those mason jar Halloween signs and painted it and then free handed it too. Turned out pretty cute!
Nice!

BRILLIANT Zeb!

good job! Ive practiced but just can't seem to get it right so kudos to you!
It’s taking me a long time to get it down!
Zeb, you're too hard on yourself, you did a great job!!! 👏👏👏
I love it 👏🏼👏🏼😍
Thanks!
I like it. I think you are doing good with the handlettering.👍
Thanks!

Perfect video for me. I have a bread box I painted but wasn't sure about how to do BREAD. THANKS a bunch
Looks fabulous !
Really turned out good
Love it ! Did you guys spray the bread box after the live ?
Just a little. It had pretty good coverage from brushing it.
When using those markers do you put another coat of sealer over the lettering or will it be okay without it?
I have sealed them in the past but once it’s sat for a couple hours the markers seem to be very permanent. I can’t wipe them off with soap and water. I didn’t seal this one.

Love it, looks awesome 🤗
Use chalk to make your guidelines, comes off easier than pencil 😊
Great tip!
Nicely done.
I'd put my bread in your box.
Maybe some pão de queijo? .....Now I want some of that bread!
You have improved!! I think you should try to find a way to keep your hand steadier, but I am very impressed!! Great job!
Thanks!
Would like the B bolder.
Yeah, Jami would too lol.
Looks great. Im going to have to get me some paints and get mine done. :)
Bravo! Not easy al all!

Put just your pinky down to keep your handle stable.
Thank you! I’ll try that
Decoupage would of been a better idea:))...
Ahahahaha! That bad huh?
Jami Ray Vintage It was fun watching!!!! but I have a feeling that Jami might want you to redo it:))...😄just kidding!! Love you both...💕
😂😂
Hey Zeb, check out the rusticrosebud on IG. She is a self taught free hand artist as well. Great job!!
Will do! Thanks!
Nice effort, need experience. Pencil in letters first, easier to erase then to fix ink mistake.
Hey, it's good, stop the self deprication!
I’m always my own worst critic! 😂

It is harder! Thanks for the tip!
