I love how you show how to actually diagnose faulty components rather than only showing how to change them like most RUclips channels. Parts changers vs true techs.
This is the kind of content I do appreciate, mechanic, diagnostics, figuring it out, this is just amazing and the rollercoaster of emotions is very relatable
It makes sense as a consumer to replace things that break with new items, but on these shows I'm always much happier when presenters dive into the inner workings and actually repair devices that can be repaired. The boiler room is a fascinating place, if only one is willing to go there.
I had the EXACT same issues with a 96 LT1 running a procharger... for a few years. We sent the car to multiple shops and dealerships over a 3 yr period. In those 3 yrs less than 1500 miles went on the car, more miles were put on the truck and trailer transporting it around. Procharger eventually got involved and worked with Fastchip (tuned the ECU) and finally got things to work correctly -> we ditched all the MSD stuff I was running (just like in your vette), went to a factory Optispark, and ran the coldest cheapest autolite plug possible... and the car FINALLY ran correctly. I was ready to scrap the TransAm/LT1. I loved the car and it ran perfectly before putting a blower in it. After the blower install, some days it would run great, other days sounded just like your vette. I went thru so many parts and so much money... I replaced the ECU just like you did and it worked for a day or three, then back to square one. We would take it to dinner and it would run great, then leave dinner an hr later and the car would die one light later, and stranded we were again. So many highs and lows -> I felt Peter's roller coaster of emotions in more ways than you can imagine. Call procharger if all else fails. I think the MSD stuff was the main culprit in my experience. Good luck.
Best thing you can do with an LT1 if you're going to keep it is do a 24x conversion so you can run it on a modern ls 411 PCM and it removes the problematic opti spark for a coil pack setup
Awesome job guys. I love the fact that y’all are legitimately having fun wrenching on the C4 and working through its nuances instead of getting ticked off with it like most people do. The results are truly gratifying. There’s nothing like a C4 slaying rubber
Joan Osborne - One of Us. Feel the pain with those header bolts. The tube bend on SBCs make it impossible to use anything but an open end wrench. The wrap doesn’t help.

I have always changed my “lifetime” transmission fluid every 50,000 in my Audis and have NEVER had a problem even with the good old tip. I think a miracle happened with that corvette. I bet there are not that many people who would have spent the time and effort to sort it out like you and Peter did. Most would have gotten it to run enough to take it to Alaska and fly it off the cliff up there. I loved my old C4, it was a great car and only had one major problem strangely with a cracked exhaust manifold! Great job trying to save this old boy.👍👍
You guys are the perfect duo. Thank you for this content. I had a 1985 c4 that I restored and all the things you're doing really bring back memories. Really looking forward to the resto!

I'm glad it's not just Ford Vehicles that have a close to 100% failure rate when it comes to reman'd computers. The factory ones will typically outlast the car but remanufactured across the board typically blow no matter who does it. The junkyard is still the best place to shop, lol.
These videos are so satisfying, because of how clean your work is done and attention to detail. No better feeling than fixing issues after replacing old crusty parts with fresh ones! 😃 I’m putting Mantic Triple disk on Monday. I’m sad that it will be hidden, because the kit is a work of art!
Tip when using the vacuum tube setup like you were on the tank - take a coat hanger or similar wire and tape the hose to it with some electrical tape. Leave about an inch of the hose longer than the end of the wire. Then you can move the hose around tons better holding the stiff wire. 😊
At the 38:45 min mark in this video, I see some kind of KITT scanner LED on the Dash. What is that? Great work bringing this beast back to life and the subsequent other issues. Amazing you can narrow things down. Keep up the revivals.
If you had a long wire (coat hanger?) you could wrap it around that tubing on your vacuum. It would give you precise control getting the debris out of the tank. Also, that appears to be a tension bracket for a chainlink fence holding the fuel filter. Finally, are you planning on removing the aftermarket ground effect kit?
Love the reaction of getting into a car and being so happy when you put your foot to the floor! Corvettes are my favorite and this series has been awesome! I can’t wait for the detail video and to see how fantastic this is going to look. Are you getting new target tops for the vette?

So much nostalgia on this car as a Chevy parts guy that got his start in the late 90s. Yes, our fuel filter brackets could have been better made from old erector sets. And all the Chicago mannerisms as a transplant to Will county almost makes me miss the city. I supply parts to the auction in Matteson if you're ever out this way.
Keep in mind the ECM drops out of closed loop in a sense because it will reset BLM/INT and not use o2 voltage signal anymore and just rely on the WOT tables for fueling. How about a dyno session before you detail it, and before you create an inspection window in the side of the block 🤣
That was a hell of a roller coaster of an episode 😂 I can’t wait for that full detail though, and see how well it cleans up 😍 As always, stay awesome man! 🙌🏼
It makes me so happy to see these older regular guy cars getting fixed and working again. I have an old New Edge mustang that could use some time and attention and this is making me want to get back to work.
Great awesomeness video guys!!!The roller coaster ride with this vette has been totally worth it. You guys have a great chemistry and great comic relief. The randomness of your dialogue makes your video so very enjoyable. Keep up the great vids and episodes. Happy Thanksgiving to you guys!!!!

This C4 Corvette series has been awesome I just purchased a 93 C4 anniversary edition as well and I changed all the filters and everything and a few of the other issues I’ve had you have addressed. I’m going to do as well. thank you so much it’s awesome to see. Subscribed!!
I definitely would've taken the opportunity to upgrade to a set of long tube headers. It's a substantial gain in performance, through the entire rpm range.
@@billjohnson717 who the fuck do you think you are lol? In what world are people defending the use of shorties?! Longtube headers are easily the best bang for buck modification anyone can make to a V8 engine. Considering it's boosted, they're easily worth over 30hp gained. But what do I know, I only have a 600hp 355 LT1 making the same 7psi they are. Their package is a cam, valve springs and headers away from making another 100hp. The fact they had them off and in their hands makes it even more of a 'no-brainer' decision.
I got a c4 about 10 years ago, 6 speed manual tpi 350. when I was 20 that thing was so cool. Your right about it easy to beat on and control. I learned how to really push the limits of a car in that thing.
Could we name the c4 “Marlin” or “ruby” keep the original owner’s name alive. Edit : that looks like fencing strap on the fuel filter I just had to fix my fence before winter 😂
Tons of German, Japanese, and Korean cars have a pop open cap under back seat, then a couple nuts or screw cap to the pump..not really uncommon to be easy to do. Even most under vehicle are pretty easy to drop tank.
@@billjohnson717 no just adding a few facts, if you don't he's going to call me a liar..then he'll be upset when I go type him lists of vehicles. It's RUclips, you just gotta learn to put em down in 1 comment.
@@Boga217 I wouldn't call you a liar, but there's certainly much fewer steps in popping off a cover and zipping off a few bolts vs getting the car up on the lift or getting it on stands and sliding the creeper underneath to drop the tank and getting crap all over yourself and the floor. That doesn't really compare.
1/4 Keyway stock zip tied to the suction hose. Leave it up from the end of the keyway stock a little more than a 1/16 of an inch. Then you have perfect control. You can substitute a 1/4-20 threaded rod. Just a few inches of ties at the bottom works like a pool vacuum.
Something else I'd recommend for the LT1 platform, Torqhead! Basically gets rid of the opti spark and swaps everything over to a OBD2 system. It's uses the LS ignition system, pcm and so on.. definitely something worth investing into.
@@Boga217 Some cars, like mine, use two fuel level sending units, if one goes bad you have to change both because it cuts the circuit. And replacement units are even worse quality, they don't even work properly brand new. Hard to trust when the fuel level goes crazy.
@@Boga217 No choice to go aftermarket or used OEM, the part isn't available at the dealer or at stupidly high prices. I like my german cars but i'd like them to be easier to work on. I envy the simplicity of some US cars, really.
As someone who owns one of these Vetts, a common occurrence is for the engine to cut out under heavy acceleration and cornering when you get up to higher than stock performance levels. At 10:57, you can see that little baffle/tray... whatever you wish to call it... at the bottom of your tank. They have a very common problem where they like to come unstuck from the bottom of the tank and walk away from the pump. Yours looks to be intact, but, if you experience these symptoms in the future, that would be the first thing I would check. Because of the pickup placement the engine cutting out can happen with as much as half a tank of gas still in the car. Just something to keep in mind. This is actually something I am currently working on fixing with mine.
Liking different stuff, to me is the sign of a true car guy. No myopic hatred of other stuff, just a true appreciation of anything with an engine and a throttle. Great stuff, mate.
All of you make me happy. i love the channel! From your working to get a car running from scratch to the expression on your wife's face feeling the stang really pull, it is just pure enjoyment for me. Thank you so much! I am stuck in bed for months, and your videos take me to Chicago and away from this place. BTW, riding a motorcycle is not worth the risk.
Verry happy with your fuel sending repair. my 85 corvette also has a problem with accuracy. I would never guess the yellow connector was hold from the back with a clip. You saved me a ton of stress. Thank you an keep up the good work!
I've never wanted to see a detailing video more than I want to with this Vette! Hate to say this has been my favorite but man, this is up there with the best on this channel! AND,..................... I am so glad I own an LS6 Vette, lol.
I'm sure it has been said already, but the song was by Jewel. Great videos BTW. Just found your channel a few days ago, and have watched the SVT series and this one. Love it!
that song Peter didn't know is One of Us by Joan Osborne now you need to make him listen to it at least 100 times so it's all he can think about lol. Also I swear that when a designer is making a car they come at it with the thoughts of "how can we take more room away in the engine compartment so that mechanics either have to remove practically everything from the car or remove the engine in order to work on it"
I had the same problem with my 1995 Pontiac Trans Am. I had running issues. I ended up changing the Opti-Spark, because it was nasty inside it like yours was. It ran go for a while after the change. Than it started running bad again after while. I didn’t get to the computer. I just sold it. Lucky, someone really wanted that car and bought it for more than what I paid for it. I about broke even after all the repairs I bought and installed.
Neat video; a few small points - the brown o rings are typically Viton; you replaced them with black o rings which are most likely neoprene - the o rings you put in will fail quite soon, causing a leak and probably a fire. Neoprene doesn't do well with fuel (that's why injector o rings are always viton). The reason why your air fuel after start up was a little richer was because every pushrod V8 (in fact almost all engines) require an after start enrichment algorithm to add extra fuel immediately after start up for about 30 seconds; if you'd waited a bit you would've seen things normalize. Other than those two things, your videos are fun to watch.
You guys literally saved that corvettes life! More cumbersome then the foxbody was... but appearing to pay off. Peters driving reaction is great! 👍 guys
C 3 was the longest Generation from 68 to 82 at 15 yrs. Just found your channel and I'm HOOKED !!! I'm more partial to Vetts but GM ALL the WAY !!! GREAT Vid. !!!
Loving this video series.....buy the car you wanted but couldn't afford when it was new. Get massive satisfaction cause it was cheap......more satisfaction because you fixed it....more satisfaction because it's now awesome AND it's not like anybody else can have this, this kind of satisfaction has nothing to do with money, it's all about enthusiasm
Idk if this helps or if you found the problem already but I had pretty much the same issue. All in all at the end of it all it turned out to be connector drag on an injector. Not saying that will solve it but maybe give them a once over. If it helps pass along the knowledge guys. And sorry in advance the video cut off right after it started running bad again. Love the channel. Thanks for all the content.
Found your channel due to the fox body Mustang videos, and here I am glued to a series about a Vette! You guys are so good you put a huge smile on a Ford fan! Keep it up!
8:43 When you realize your kitchen knife set that has 6 steak knives, shears, butcher knife, bread knife, paring knife, fillet knife, and a sharpener that is held in a wood block with spaces for everything, was $50.

As cool as Corvettes might be for cruising around with a Prince cassette tape collection, building an 80s era G body with a back porch's worth of clearance around the engine would be a lot more enjoyable to work on. You have the patience of a Saint.
Take a wooden dowel or length of brake line or other rigid rod, lay the bendy pickup tube next to it, and use some wire to fix the tube to the dowel/stiff rod. Voila! Easy to control where your rig is sucking to pick up debris from gas tank.

Peter’s face getting squirrley with the C4 is priceless
I got a c4 about 10 years ago, 6 speed manual tpi 350. when I was 20 that thing was so cool. Your right about it easy to beat on and control. I learned how to really push the limits of a car in that thing.
Very nice! You guy woke that c4 up. Can’t wait to see it clean.
Enjoy watching you guys have so much fun while bringing back a American icon 💪
Could we name the c4 “Marlin” or “ruby” keep the original owner’s name alive. Edit : that looks like fencing strap on the fuel filter I just had to fix my fence before winter 😂
That has to be the easiest fuel pump replacement setup in automotive history.
Tons of German, Japanese, and Korean cars have a pop open cap under back seat, then a couple nuts or screw cap to the pump..not really uncommon to be easy to do. Even most under vehicle are pretty easy to drop tank.
GM, W bodys have an easy access cover behind the back seat.
@@Boga217 you trying to give a history lesson? Your a real Eli Whitney 😂
It's uses the LS ignition system, pcm and so on.. definitely something worth investing into.
... Man!!! I'm from Mozambique 🇲🇿 and I now that song... 😅😂👌✌️😎
Fuel sending unit problems are my nemesis. Not knowing when i'm going to run out of gas is stressful AF.
It's such a cheap easy fix, why not just fix it?
@@Boga217 Some cars, like mine, use two fuel level sending units, if one goes bad you have to change both because it cuts the circuit. And replacement units are even worse quality, they don't even work properly brand new. Hard to trust when the fuel level goes crazy.
@@cidkplas have you tried an oem
@@Boga217 No choice to go aftermarket or used OEM, the part isn't available at the dealer or at stupidly high prices. I like my german cars but i'd like them to be easier to work on. I envy the simplicity of some US cars, really.
@@cidkplas what kind of car?
Would love to see more off-roading in the ml55amg, it would be interesting to see how it does with dual lockers.
And I want a toilet made out of solid gold but it's just not in the cards now is it?
@@madmax82988 ?? Your comment seems pretty unnecessary.
Maybe we could throw some Dodge Raider 4x4 in there too 😜
As someone who owns one of these Vetts, a common occurrence is for the engine to cut out under heavy acceleration and cornering when you get up to higher than stock performance levels.
🔝🔝Thanks! Appreciate your kind words
Congratulations you've won yourself a Gift
Text me on Telegram fan page now 🔝
I've never wanted to see a detailing video more than I want to with this Vette! Hate to say this has been my favorite but man, this is up there with the best on this channel!
AND,..................... I am so glad I own an LS6 Vette, lol.
The ruby turbo blues brothers Chicago edition corvette 😂 it’s a keeper brah
This is one of my favorite channels to watch !!!!!!
Also I swear that when a designer is making a car they come at it with the thoughts of "how can we take more room away in the engine compartment so that mechanics either have to remove practically everything from the car or remove the engine in order to work on it"
Prince also sang that song.
@@carlosthompson604 I didn't know that I only knew the original version lol
I had the same problem with my 1995 Pontiac Trans Am. I had running issues. I ended up changing the Opti-Spark, because it was nasty inside it like yours was. It ran go for a while after the change. Than it started running bad again after while. I didn’t get to the computer. I just sold it. Lucky, someone really wanted that car and bought it for more than what I paid for it. I about broke even after all the repairs I bought and installed.
good video on the C4 saga, but damn, my OCD is screaming, "clean that damn thing!" detail vids are very cathartic, keep up the good work.
Peters smile is infectious, you make repairs look so simple, was, love from Nigeria🇳🇬
I can’t wait to see you detail that car
👍 guys
Nice job You and Peter did on the Corvette. Can hardly wait or the detail video. Thanks for the fun.
C 3 was the longest Generation from 68 to 82 at 15 yrs. Just found your channel and I'm HOOKED !!!
I'm more partial to Vetts but GM ALL the WAY !!! GREAT Vid. !!!
21:00 Joan Osborne - One of us! Great song. I’m born in 86. I do remember the song, just heard it last week ar work on the radio.
Enjoying this series very much! Are you getting a new Targa top as well?
When I can’t get I bolt or nut out. “Alright ima give it a break let it rest he’ll come out when he is ready.” Lol 😫
Wired taste is my 94 Audi Cabriolet 2.8l. I fix something every time I drive it. But I always wanted an Audi.
Hahaha. I totally typed in the comments (on the other video) ... Are you sure it didn't run out of fuel?... But deleted it because I figured you checked that. 🤣
As always, great video.
Happy Thanksgiving Alex and Peter! Oh, and Alex's wife who makes cameos every now and then
As cool as Corvettes might be for cruising around with a Prince cassette tape collection, building an 80s era G body with a back porch's worth of clearance around the engine would be a lot more enjoyable to work on.
You have the patience of a Saint.
It’s so nice to finally find a RUclipsr that uses Amsoil!!! I’ve got it in all 3 of my vehicles and trust it all the way!! Great work and content!!
Joan Osborn is the name of the chick who sang that song. It was also featured in the soundtrack of Bruce Almighty.
Take a wooden dowel or length of brake line or other rigid rod, lay the bendy pickup tube next to it, and use some wire to fix the tube to the dowel/stiff rod. Voila! Easy to control where your rig is sucking to pick up debris from gas tank.
Great genuine guys like you is why I miss the north side of Chicago
21:21 The song is One Of Us by Joan Osborne, released in February 1995, from her debut album Relish.
