    I love this strange little anime movie. Treasure Town is a whole character unto itself in this film. Very few anime does such a great job portraying a living breathing city like this movie does. This is probably one of the very best productions Studio 4°C has ever made. Be happy, be happy!

    Still remember when i've first seen it! Never read the Manga, never seen a trailer, never even eared of it, but the art-style of the Blu-Ray on the rental store really seemed interesting, so i decided to give it a shot. Soon after i was mesmerized by what i was watching on the screen! It really felt fresh and it is to this day one of my favorite Anime ever! But, being from Europe i've always watched it with Japanese sound and English subtitles never knowing the original was actually in English XD

    I always felt like there was something special about this anime, and thanks to this video, I know why; unique artists with a passion (and understanding) for the original work, exceptional animators, and a masterful balance of 2D and 3D animation (something I agree is still very hard for a lot of productions today).
    The freedom of the camera angles/movement is done beautifully too. Nice to know they seem to have put just as much heart into the music as well, re-doing everything because the footage inspired them that much is a testament to that for sure

    This is defenetly on my top 10 animated movies list, up there with some of yuasa's, and I feel like part of that is due to the amazing soundtrack that plaid composed, didn't know that they reworked everything after seeing the movie, I'm glad they did!
    Great video, loving the 4⁰C series :)

    Tekkon Kinkreet took me by surprise. At first, I noticed the superb art and choice of color, but then the story evolved and it completely took me off guard. Art is simply amazing, gorgeous as expected, and really helps bring a unique feel to Treasure Town. It is very colorful and happy for such a sad story, but it really works! It's A MASTERPIECE to me. Thank u for your video.

    I've only read the manga recently, I'm still going through it even. The scene where White looks at the apple seed and has a dream sequence always left an impression on me. I saw this movie when I was very young, it was one of the first experiences I had outside of mainstream anime like DBZ, sailor Moon, Heidi, candy, Sakura card captor, Gundam etc. (Before actually good anime like ergo proxy)
    The style, the theme, the action, it was all the serving a bigger purpose beyond Selling stupid plastic parafernalia.
    Basically this, paprika and Apple seed ruined the rest of the industry for me.

    • @Stevem
      @Stevem  2 года назад

      maybe you need to humble yourself then because all art is about selling something, even the other arty ones you mentioned need to sell their merch too and need a certain about of hard sales to not destroy said creators careers, remember it wasnt until this year that the ergo proxy director had a hit anime, lucky he kept in the industry that long. Pieces like tekkonkinkreet only exists because of prior successes like animatrix from the same studio

      @@Stevem of course every widespread media is about making money, but the intention to make money being the sole reason for art to exist, is barely excusable, passion will never be about money but about creation itself, a little narrow there to think that the end always justifies the means just for fear the end not existing in the first place.
      That's my opinion on the industry anyways, I sincerely would prefer never have heard of certain pieces of art if it meant no meddling from producers, and it was the pure vision of the creator, money or not, merch or not.

    • @Stevem
      @Stevem  2 года назад

      @@lasarousi the problem with your thinking is to assume the barely paid animators and overworked directors who make these works dont care about them when they do, the money making is the conciet to do what they do, same for all artists you need to eat. Or that any of the artsy pieces you described would exist without certain very dedicated producers. I also dont really get this pure vision thing, thats not how the industry works, it is a collective group of people making something not just one person and generally anime creators do have a lot of freedom in comparison to other animation industries. If you want to back individual creativity, its the independent animators you should look into not the sizable productions youve brought up here.

      If it takes twenty years so be it, you're excusing the bureaucratic grind and enrichment of third parties just for the chance that maybe they will get a break and capture lightning in a bottle.
