@29:00 The west also has some of the rare veda-vedic chanting done by Pune Brahmin. Apparently the pune brahmin was the only one who knew of this particular method and it got recorded and preserved!! Way to go. India-Indians don't deserve our forefathers/lineage. We are horrible, horrible....
@54:00 Even today, traditional vedanta teacher do not care for recording their pravachan because it is not just meant for lisening but meant to be listened in the presence of a LIVE guru. SO it is oral traditions and thats why it is called Shruti
Thank you Vinamre for this podcast. Finally Vikram gets to speak about something other than Savarkar and other political historical figure. I wish you had spoken more because Vikram is such a great story teller.
Wow! Didn't know Vikram Sampath ji has been contributing more than what we know on the public domain. It's great to see and hear from him about his work in this domain. Kudos to him 🙏🏻🙌🏻
All the historical wrongs are hammed by the great trinity 🔱 J Sai Deepak - Dr. Anand Ranganathan - Vikram Sampath. Hope to do the podcast with these gems 💎 one day.
Today I discovered a new talent in this man. He has done phenomenal work. I can't imagine how much time and energy he dedicated to this project. My god, he is something else. 🤯🤯🤯
This is a real eye openener. Thanks for this veru enlighting podcast . MR Vikram Sampat is a gift who keeps giving ... Thanks for your dedication to your passion sir 🙏
“India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great-grandmother of tradition.”
If a copyright has a validity of 60 years from date of publication, how sa re ga ma claims copy right of all music of hmv, Columbia etc records of pre 1964 ? Can. Shri Dr Vikram Sampat clarify?
Ancient Indian knowledge distrubution system had brahmins as living libraraies and documents. And that's why brahmins are considered as the top tier or the jati-varna system.
You can play a 78 rpm record / platter / disc 20:19 on a record player which has setting for speeds with regular stylus Not a big deal as you make it. Taken over by Goenka group EMI now Saregama Lot of BS with regard to technology A master disc is created on a metal platter then the the shellac is pressed The master disc has inverted image so that the shellac has the pitted grove.

Not a historian. An amateur who makes egregious mistakes and most importantly, a plagiarist who had copied most of his published work from unpublished PhDs of other people. You should refrain from giving stage to such immoral people.
This is what I call sidequest history. It's my favourite kind of history. The stakes are low. The implications are not severe, political or otherwise. The non statistical biases are often less. One gets to fully enjoy the process of research and documentation. There are no heavy chips on your shoulder. Thank you Vikram Sir for gifting this book to the world.
Vikram has a genius that most lack! His knowledge of Indian history has silenced pretenders like Tharoor. It is so refreshing to see his passion even in the history of music! Glad you gave up the ‘coolie’ job of the corporates. Hats off to you Vikram! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💐‼️
Towards the last decade of the19th century Gohar Jan visited Jamnagar which was the capital of Nawanagar state in Saurashtra. The ruler at that time was one Vibha jam -Uncle of Ranjit Singh the cricketer and Raj gayak was one Aditya Ram, Gohar Jan had also some musical training under Aditya Ram. This matter was reported in Gujarat Samachar by a journalist Joravar Singh Jadav a few years back. This is for the information of Shri Vikram Sampat.
Are our Industrialists support him in his endeavours who are very generous to foreign universities which are blatantly anti Indian, other than our dear Mohandas Pai?
I have never heard or seen this side of Dr. Sampath. We usually see him talking about history and I always wondered about the rather strange Ph.D degree he held. I'm so glad this podcast explored the musical side of this down-to-earth man and his yet another amazing contributions to our Indian society. Thanks!
Wonderful podcast. We need more like this because people generally get attracted towards the practical aspects of Indian classical music while the fact is that it has a history of its own.
Vinamre, seriously I got tired of hearing about your experience with Blues and Jazz. I love that genre of music but this is not why I am listening to the podcast.. and if you are doing this kind of interview please dont say it loud that you have never heard of K. L. Saigal. You are not suppose to know everything but just keep that to yourself.
Salute to Vikram bhai for the great documentation effort. India has so much treasures of different kinds, but longitudinal documentation of those are largely missing. Performing arts are particularly neglected. Thanks for this beautiful vdo.
Thank you Mr. Sampat. In the early 20th century, singers, mostly courtesans, had to sit down and sing before and elite audience; once the singing was over, they had to say their name in full before they got up to go. Like “Gohar Jan Kalkatte Wali”
We cannot change our past. We can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.
Very interesting...btw, Gauhar Jan, India's first music diva, was born in a Jewish family...you can research...✌️...a well known theatre production on her bio has been presented in the Indian metros sm years back...
This man just blows me away with his immense knowledge and passion! He inspires me so so much it’s always a delight to hear his podcasts. His stories and research is so on point ❤

@discat: Your job is to ask relevant questions. Not add your own "knowledge" and show off "I know it too" attitude, which is irrelevant for audience.
