Tire Changer Has Impact Wrench Ripped From His Hands

The pit crew's jackman drops the jack just a split second early on the left side of the vehicle before the tire changer finishes tightening the lug nuts, and gets his impact wrench ripped from his hands in the process. Thankfully, there weren't any injuries, but other crew members in the sport haven't been so lucky following similar scenarios.

There's actually a single lug wheel not sure if in use but the rapid wheel change has been more of a tradition of NASCAR to see who has the quickest pit crew.

No it is an Impact Wrench. I mean in basic hand tools what are wrenches for ? Turning hex shaped fasteners such as bolts and nuts, and a lug nut is well essentially just another nut. So we don't use a cresent or ratchet wrench to turn that, if not we'll have 30 minute pit stops. Impact wrenches can take a form of electrical, battery and pneumatic which means air driven, and nascar uses the pneumatic form. I feel like the battery would be better and more cleaner to work with and you can get up to 800 ft-lbs of torque on a Milwaukee or DeWalt wrenches which is just as powerful as pneumatic wrenches for taking off a car wheel and you can get now 5 of the 24 hour lasting batteries on some of these new battery impacts in case the teams are going to be worried about reliability, but instead they have the hose that can get caught on the car and rip or have a wrench fan that can fail which has happen before and they had to change out impact wrenches. 😂 If I were a pit man I would address that to nascar. But I'm not, I just know about basic tools because I'm an HVAC tech. 🤷🏽‍♂️
