I always thought that if SA had a better acceleration or a better top speed, it could have been a better Blue Falcon. Thanks for clarifying this doubt I have been having for 18 years. I severely underrated Space Angler for his acceleration alone and kept ignoring it, only giving Leon custom machines to make his motivations some justice.
I remember being really bummed about the space angler when I first got GX. In X it was my favorite, but here it's just a slippery slow mess & I kept wondering why I was losing until I found cars that worked better for me
The same story can be felt especially with Night Thunder, Crazy Bear and Blood Hawk. GX seemingly focused more on playstyles rather than overall balance like in X (and later Climax). Space Angler isn't always completely slow. BUT it has a really weak start and takes much longer than other machines to catch up. Dark Schneider has a similar issue, but it's way faster in comparison.
Who knew Leon was Regigigas all along. But like Space Angler, simple hacks can make both good. Unleashed for Space Angler, and AR codes for Regigigas. I made it that Regigigas gets Mold Breaker instead of it's awful disabilty.
Oh yeah, agreed on both counts. Sometimes, when designing their playstyles, you just gotta let it be and not tie it down to some kind of awful handicap. Shoot, you could even name Slaking as well.
@@custom-r Slaking is a bit tricky. His ability is there for dex reasons. But it's another shit ability. So I rather give it Gluttony or Thick Fat (although I still prefer Regigigas). Heck I even buffed the Regis in general. Im suprised you didn't mention Archeops as well. His ability cripples him/her. I gave it Rock Head with Brave Bird, as it's 2nd option allows it to do mighty damage.
Space Angler's main problem is that it has the worst acceleration value of all the machines (tied with fire stingray I believe, been a long time since I looked into the data values) but only around 1050 Kph top speed. All other machines with bad acceleration have around 1100 kph top speed but still slightly better acceleration. If it wasnt for this, space Angler would be fine. It even gains speed when performing a quick turn (an advanced technique), which is only the case for a select few machines. With a proper top speed to make up for its acceleration (something like 1105-1112) , it would be high tier for sure.
I guess it kinda makes sense why his machine is so terrible when you consider the lore. His planet was so poor, they could only afford him an absolute junker of machine. If there's ever another F-Zero game, Id love to see him with a buffed machine as his planet recovers from war, hes one of the noblest pilots in the game.
This is one of few cars that have higher drag. Why they deigned to give it to a machine with under 1000kg, a mediocre booster, and the lowest acceleration is beyond me.
Yes, Space Angler for the most part is a hunk of trench fish garbage. Its racing capabilities are very poor. But all it takes is the right track. While our bioluminescent metal fish doesn't do so hot on short technical tracks like Drift Highway, Serial Gaps and Slim-Line Slits, it shows its true capabilities on the long speed friendly courses like Surface Slide, Cylinder Knot, Trident, Dragon Slope and Spiral. Don't diss something bad without finding something good first. And say whatever you want but I still go 100% top speed for this. And with that set up, I won Phantom Road on master with it.
It's a 50/50 vehicle. Leon better rely on those good ol boost pads if he wants to raise money for the children's shelter.....and possibly prove himself to his non-canonical cousin, Wolf O'Donnell

Beating master mode with this machine felt like a badge of honour
Love the work and dedication you put on this channel 😉
This reflects my experiences with it as well. The Space Angler isn't fundamentally bad, it's just outclassed. I feel sorry for the kids on Zou.

This was the machine i used to get all the cups in GP legend.
It's miles better in the GBA games. And very easy to use, especially for those accustomed to the 3D games.
@@custom-r the fact it can turn on a dime without much loss of speed also helps
1:08 for the meat and potatoes.

Space Angler seems better than White Cat. At least on bumpy tracks where lighter weight is an advantage.
