  • I'd been out to film an update on the house of clocks just a couple of weeks ago to see what has happened since my first visit and was going to post it next but I found this house purely by chance as I had my eye on another house down the valley but the owner wasn't too interested in letting my look through his.I will post the house of clocks update video after this one. I've driven past this house for 16 years here where I live in Lismore Nsw Australia and it's only 5 minutes out of town and never knew it was there all this time. I was like a kid at Christmas when I rolled up and found what I did. I got so excited I left my torch in the car but the only thing too dark was the pantry so I was lucky there. The house must have been highly decorated when originally built as the home for a well to do diary farmer as the remnants of the fret work on the outside looks beautiful and lavish and would have enclosed a good deal of the veranda's. Never before have I seen so much use of pressed tin in an old house and it was mind blowing to see still up in the house and not stripped . The house sits well back from the road and I definitely will NOT reveal it's location because I'm sure as soon as I do the house will end up being pilfered .I'm just guessing by what features I found in the house and think it was built some where between 1900 and 1910? If anyone knows of abandoned buildings around northern nsw Australia I'd love to hear from you so I can film then for everyone to enjoy. Thanks for watching and don't forget to share and like the video.

I have never, ever seen pressed tin that beautiful! It almost has an Art Nouveau look. All the patterns are different, it even has medallions around the lights and crown molding on all the corners. Extra fancy decor was often just used in the formal/public rooms of a house and not so much in the bedrooms and kitchen. I hope no one steals it, but I also hope that if anyone tears down the house, or before it rusts totally away somebody carefully removes it, to save it. Amazing!

There were actually times when the more vulnerable animals needed to be brought into the house. So a mud room could double for a temporary area for an enclosed animal or animals.

Hope someone can save all the metal and fretwork, along with the verandah flooring, sadly the house is roached out by white ants by the looks! Our old home is so similar, but where they have VJ's here we have Baltic Pine laid horizontally, our house is 1908-1910 seems 2b taking forever to reno, but will be worth it!

A lucky find! Quite striking. I would have loved to see it 60 years ago. The veranda must have been something, with ached insets between the roof supports. There was that one still attached to the supports at the end of the veranda to the right as one is about to arrive at the front door. The tin sheets are amazing. Hate to think of them ending up buried in a pile of rubble. There are a few decorative tin covered walls in old public buildings in my home town. More usually ceilings, of course. Many years ago, we bought a lot of matching tin panels at an antiques store. We trimmed them to fit in all of the paneled kitchen cabinet doors. Ended with a country French appearing kitchen. Quite nice. A lot of the patterns pressed into the tin had an Art Nouveau quality to the designs. So I guess the house was built around the 1890's. You know houses. How old do you think that house is?

hi, i am in the deep south of the usa. i am very familiar with the pressed tin from when i was a child. here it was mostly used on ceilings. i nevee remember seeing it in a privare home. always in stores.
i realky enjoyed seeing it. i have never seen ones like on the walls.
i wonder if it would be possible to get someone to do rubbings or tracings of the various panels and describe the suze and post online.

I've never seen a verandah in such perfect condition like that - me thinks it's made with very thick planks, and might have been the last thing renovated before abandonment.
The unlined room off the kitchen looks like a sleepout.
House was built in the days of gas lighting, hence the ventilated ceiling roses.
That was a well-to-do's farmhouse = with all that pressed metal and non-standard window and door frames.
