I did not feel like Durarara's ending was a mess at all. I thought it was done masterfully, especially everything surrounding the highschoolers trio and Celty and Shinra. The only complaint I could have is not knowing anything about Eijirou and Kine, but I read somewhere that their respective backstories were not adapted because of time restrictions (and the fact that 36 episodes were ultimately not enough to develop every single character), so I went to read about them in the novels and I was satisfied. I've rewatched Durarara for the third time last week (I guess that's how I ended up finding this video in my recommendations, Google can be scary) and it's even more enjoyable after every rewatch.
Eijirou and Kine don’t really have a backstory, we just got a little idea that Kine used to be in the Yakuza and was doing random jobs after he got kicked out, a plan all by on of the Kinnouske’s This is coming from someone who just finished the LNs recently
You're probably like one of the few people who actually complimented both Baccano and Durarara while mentioning them at the same time. Normally, I see people diss Durarara because Baccano exists. 😁
To really and actually appreciate them, you should also have the character to appreciate their spiritual predecessor, Kure-nai. Audiences spit on the self-expression of artists when they don't want to experience thier artistic range, but jsut pick and choose what to consume like out of a buffet. Being better than that is the reason Baccano and this style could exist at all. After all, with the same fanboy attitude that makes people avoid spoilers and compeltely miss the point of Baccano first episode, the anime could never be made this way, because it's still a butchering of the light novel for the sake of adaptation. The whole obsession to avoid spoilers and fantasize of an " intended" experience, like it's a mass-production from a factory line and contaminated by "getting spoiled", is a twisted way to see media. Completely inappreciative of the fact that we already see things differently no matter how slavishly we reduce it into nothing but the novelty of surprise. that only makes you old and miserable at 40 when you're 'seen it all" and nothing on Hero's journey no longer suprises you, but as reflections of YOUR creativity you've NEVER even started to engage with them properly.
Yep and the novels are really good imo and it's a shame that the light novels aren't being talked about all too much but yeah it's nice to see people going into the series whether it's the light novels or the anime
It and the original release of Gunbuster are the two DVD sets I'm really glad I got before their licences expired, and at least the latter's been rescued now.
I'm also glad that I bought the original Baccano! DVD set where the characters are spread out in the front and back of the package, before the re-release in a slip cover package and then the eventual OOP and expiring license phase its in right now.
Still bummed out they didn't adapt more of Baccano! Durarararararara is hot fun times but Baccano just spoke to me more becuase you just don't see that setting in anime. That said, Celty is a treasure.
Didn't expect an episode on these two, but I'm not complaining. Great reminder for me to finally finish Durarara. Baccano is still ones of the best anime I've ever seen so i need to get on that
Durarara!! is my all time favorite anime (excluding One Piece bc its not fair to compare stories to that). x2 has some incredible moments, and definitely some of the highest peaks of the series as a whole. But if you get to the end of the anime and you feel as though there are still some hanging plot threads that haven't been wrapped up, don't be discouraged, because the story isn't actually over. There are some small spinoff novels focusing on Izaya and some other characters, and there's also a continuation that takes place 2 years later called SH (Snake Hands), and I've got to say, it's really quite good and I would highly recommend reading it if you can't get enough and need to know what happens next.
@@connorthornberg I think you the only person who likes durarara more than me, durarara is my 5th favourite behind one piece hxh attack on Titan code Geass (and maybe Vinland saga now..)
@zacurrya9485 it's such a good show! And it's so underrated, it's a real shame it hasn't gotten more love. Your other faves are all great as well (although I think code geass shot itself in the foot a couple of times). My other favorites are Golden Kamuy, Steins;gate, and Mob Psycho 100 to just name a few. I really like shows that have a lot of moving pieces and different factions operating at the same time.
If you guys love Baccano & Durarara animes I highly recommend the Naritaverse LNs, Durarara, Baccano, Etsusa Bridge & Vamp. All of them take place in the same shared universe with so much variety between tones, characters & thematic ideas. Tonally they all are reminiscent of Coen Brothers films where whimsy, slapstick & humor are juxtaposed with emotional drama, twisted darkness & gruesome gritty violence. Durarara LNs also do a far superior job balancing the many characters who arrive in the 2nd season as unfortunately volumes 4-13 were pushed into one season which hurts the storytelling. Izaya also has a incredible scene that was left out of the anime & given a phenomenal dynamic with Shizuo who is my 2nd favourite character in the LN thanks to some surprising moments of contemplation that were also removed. Hope this comment spreads some praise toward my favorite author as the anime adaptations only give you a glimpse of these rich & surprisingly thought provoking stories.
Yep I would highly recommend the baccano! and durarara!! anime onlies to check out the light novels since ryohgo narita is one of my favorite writers and hopefully we get more of his work getting adapted but until then there's the light novels
Saying that the main character of Durarara - if there was one - was Ikebukuro itself really jibed with my experience of the show too. It really did feel like there was events happening around every alleyway and drawn window, and you were fundamentally unable to see the whole. Like a clockwork mechanism dripping with style and intent.
Very detailed video, Narita is my favourite author and I love all his novels, hope more people read the novels. Baccano and Durarara adaptations were really awesome and I love both of them a lot, I really loved this video for all the details.
I rewatched season 2 recently to actually understand the plot and here it is in its basic form: The nebula company from baccano tells employee kasane kujiragi to kidnap three people for scientific research: celty bc dullanhan anri's saika blade and hijiribe ruri for her ancestry was related to vampires (the source of her power) each arc tries to capitalize on this plot through various subplots like kasane using yodogiri jinnai fake to hire varona and sloan to kidnap anri in that one ep
Durarara is one of my all time favorites and I adore Rohyogo Narita ad a writer so much and I genuinely never see either drrr or narita himself talked about enough. Thank you sooooo much for making this video and I hope more people give both drrrr and baccano a try after watching this!
I love Baccano so much, it's a shame so much of the novel never got made into an anime. The Durarara naming is a big confusing I'll be honest. Anime with a wide loveable cast is just fun, one of the things I like a lot about dorohedoro.
Yeah! The later arcs get fcking wild with some being multiple volumes (the most recent arc is to come in at 5 volumes, PLZ finish it Ryohgo). This also means people wont get to see one of my personal favourite arcs be adapted (SPOILER) The 2002 Cruise ship hijacking
I said I watch this if you made it. I m hear, I've also been screaming like a little girl bevause I love the Narita verse so damn much. No matter how popular Baccano and Durarara are they will always be underrated classics.
Tbh, you mention how Ten and Ketsu are becoming convaluted and that's exactly why I love them. And in general, I like Durarara!! more than Baccano! Partly due to how chaotic the series becomes at the end, it becomes a bit absurd you could say and that's what I love about it. Other thoughts: Baccano!'s discussion scenes are the things I really love about that one, it conveys the idea of the story and has interesting things to say about story-telling in general. For Durarara!! The "Izayaaaah!"-line makes me always smile and just how morality works in the story is great as they have different goals and values. In terms of best girl, I cannot choose as they are great, even the extremely twisted ones.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS! These are not regularly talked about across RUclips and you did a great job with your analysis! Would love to see specific character analysis as well!
Baccano and Durarara were my favourite animes to watch and there's always something new whenever I revisit these series. I never read the light novels but with this video, I my appreciation for these series just increased!
@@Runo1923 Well, let's be real, there's some "interesting" incestual "themes" in nisemonogatari and all throughout. Shinobu is basically where the lolicon 3000 year old vampire meme comes from, etc. Yet the series often comes up in best-of lists, and is well regarded in the anime community, which makes it controversial.
@@hablahei1 Partially, you are right. But the series don't make any invention that doesn't exist before. Its popularity comes from; storytelling, characters, animation and source-material. I agree with you about lolicon characters being controversial and personally I don't want to see a character in this way. However, Kiss-shot is a shapeshifting vampire. She will have looong time with Araragi as immortals. So much so, I can't say controversial to the monogatari series, instead I can call it "odd".
I did a video on anime fanservice which is largely about Monogatari, but it's pretty likely that I'll come back to it at some point when I get a random pang of nostalgia again.
Alright, finished the video, and it was a good one. I only read Baccano but based on your explanation on it I can see why it's complicating for the normal anime fans, I'll comment more after I watched it fr For DRRR, I watched it before I read it, and damn the LN is way better, I wouldn't agree switching Mamiya's story with Rio's, since it lessens the impact of her reveal later but I think his encounter with Mamiya feels like a better introduction to Izaya's characters. It's my biggest complaint with S1 and I don't think it's fair to judge S2 for it's adaptation flaws but not some of S1's Also I want to say I loved Mikado, I thought he was interesting in the anime and decided to learn more about him, and I really appreciated him when I read the LNs themselves, sad we don't have the same thoughts
I love it when I discover weird anime.. like how Satoshi Kon's works are creepy weird while Narita's works are unique weird. Watching these kind of show is refreshing when you take a break from watching mainstream anime.
First off I do actually love season 2 even more than season 1 though from what I've heard there were some limitations because it needed to be adapted... and honestly I don't mind if they spend an episode or two on a seemingly irrelevant subplot distracting from the main plot... because to me all of it is equally valuable. And those last few episodes where everything ties together from Kasane Kujiragi to Celty's head to Shizuo vs Izaya to of course... the showdown between Masaomi and Mikado. It is the pinnacle of storytelling to me and only ending that beats it out is the ending of my 2nd favorite anime Code Geass (Durarara is my favorite anime btw)
They are both so, so so good. I am actually an x2 defender at heart, but I love breakneck stories I wish Vamp and Etsusa Bridge would get anime adaptations - they also take place in the same universe as Baccano and Durarara do, and I love those books so, so much. It'd never happen but I don't think any other anime would scratch the same itch
The only character that's really ever famous in DRRR!! is Celty herself. And she definitely has a unique and cool design. The only characters I did love in the series (still a fan but only for the characters) we're Izaya and Shizuo. They were so entertaining X)
I've been dying for a new Narita anime. Something about his storytelling style just hits right and the only other anime that's ever really came close to scratching that itch was probably Odd Taxi. Not even Boogiepop and Others and Ikebukuro West Gate Park, two shows based on series Durarara was directly inspired by, came close. It really is this specific team holding the magic together. I know F/SF is probably the best bet for a new show, but he's still a ways to go to finishing it, so it's definitely going to be a bit of a wait.. Back then, a lot of us Narita fans thought a upcoming Vamped adaptation seemed like a logical conclusion since these three were his big tentpole books at the time, but I think the ship's sailed way too far for that one now.
I'm halfway through ODDTAXI and I feel your sentiment. Have you checked out Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens, its in the same territory as Baccano! and Durarara!!
@@CobaltT9 I have! I don't think the energy for the anime was quite there, but I did enjoy it a lot. Lin especially is one of my more recent favorite anime characters. I keep hoping the books get picked up for an English release.
@@xeno4445 Oh!! That is interesting. I've always been under the impression that they wouldn't adapt it until the books were done. Gotta keep my eyes open now.
I actually really enjoyed x2, including the end, though I wish it could have been more about mikado, whose fall was a masterstroke imo and recontexualizes the first arc of the first season.
I would like a Canipa Effect on the 3 last episodes of Ayakashi: classic japanese horror and their spin-off, Mononoke. I'm curious how the artstyle ended up being as it is, and how they decided such a drastic change for these last 3 episodes
Narita is one of my favorite character writers. I kinda wish light novels could get audiobooks, because I feel like I have an easier time reading along to audio.
I do love BCN and DRRR but I love Omori the most so I'm glad there's a video about this works somehow. His masterpieces for me are the Natsume Yuujinchou series.
I literally just finished rewatching season 1 of Durarara with some friends like two days ago and this video popped up in my recommended. Thanks RUclips lol
There's no MCs, just Casts. As if you are watching a documentary of events past, current, future to play everything out. The first episodes would feel confusing. It doesn't have to make sense. You are simply woven in it, invested, falling to a rabbit hole. That is why it's good.
I was making happy noise hearing the durarara baccano stuff but once u mentioned potential fate adaptation by those same legends i was IN DENIAL how can u drop such a bomb!! I seriously hope this happens, since these are my fav fate characters and my fav anime. It fits like a glove!!
Hey, could you talk about Mob psycho's clips getting removed from sakugabooru due to DMCA strikes? I plan to make a video on this myself but this is a pretty bad situation that needs exposure to a larger audience.
Gosh these series are amazing. Gotta revisit them again. The music used at 0:00 immediately got memories of questioning why Rail Chaser is hot and my mates and I casually going "Carollolloll~" Edit: 9:55 Shiiiiiiiiiiii- watch out for casual street lights appearing from the sky.
I used to be really defensive of the later seasons of Durarara because it was my favourite anime for a really long time but these days, yeah. I still love the show very much, but that animation did take a bit of a hit
I feel the exact opposite. I used to shit on the last 36 episodes of Durarara, and after a rewatch with myself, and then with my sister. It’s so unbelievably good. If you pay close attention, pretty much everything is interesting and satisfying, aside from a few things, and the finale feels like a bit of a cop out, but the entire thing is just an amazing exercise in necessarily convoluted storytelling.
Baccano should have another anime season the story continues on the light novel, unfortunately we wouldn't have another season. On other hand Durarara!! Got a good run in the anime. 2 masterpieces. I agree
I agree the ending parts could have been done better but it still kickedass the weapon scene :) still dope Many more recent shows have been far worse yet received pretty well
The fact that Baccano will seemingly never get a continuation anime-wise is nothing less than an absolute tragedy to me. I understand there's the LN, but I enjoy the anime experience more even now, if not to an increased extent.
Tbh I have no hope for another baccano! anime but imo I perfer the novels since I liked narita's writing and enami's illustrations plus I liked the cut material/characters from the adapted volumes especially with volume 4 which was my favorite adapted volume but it was the least faithful since they already crammed in 3 novels into 16 episodes but yeah I would be interested to see how the rest of the series could get adapted but I guess maybe time will tell if the series will ever get another adaptation.
19:53 I'm just here for the Fate/Strange Fake shout out :^), can't wait for Narita to show off Archer Heracles, the actual Rider of Plagues or just straight up the greatest incarnation of the metaphor of Jack the Ripper being unknownable in myth and thus formless....in like 2050 when he's done and lets people adapt his stuff again :^) jokes aside yeah I do love just how appreciatiable the non-sequiteur/massive character roster storytelling is handled in Narita works, contrast to, say, a battle royale genre with a similarly large cast and possibly each getting their lime-light but really cutting up events to make it a real audience engaging puzzle to follow. Only others I can think put as much work in both a VERY Sakuga centric team with an insanely complicated and off-kilter storytelling is SHAFT x Nisio Isin's Bakemonogatari story telling, ESPECIALLY the Second Season just dropping a whole epilogue season in the middle before they even finished the initially planned prequel movie(s) [initially planned adaption 3 years after the LN, then it took another 5 to break it down into 3 films by 2016]....Maybe Paranoia Agent too ...I also appreciate that while Durarara S1 is well beloved, that there's acknowledgement that Season 2+3+4 just was WAY too ambitious and cast-bloated and me personally while it obviously broke focus and had animation production issues, it just REALLY made the main character conflict reveals drag forever in the finale while it cut to nearly every other character who only could contribute a "welp, I'm also here...just sitting at the bar...while shit's going down elsewhere" vibe...really it's just extra sad that for all the massive extended cast of great characters...only the Izaya x Shizuo doujins got any love
Phew, this episodes took time to be here. It seems it was available during the first half of August for the Patreon but the sponsor didn’t validate the upload. Anyway, great episode and I’m waiting to see what you will have to say for Lycoris Recoil. Also, I hope to see one day an Studio Spotlight about an old studio from the 80´s like TMS. There would be so much to say (maybe too much 😅)
Durarara is one of my favorite anime....... Love Baccano too but unlike Durarara, not having S2 let alone a full adaption ruined my hype & interest...... will try to read the novel someday...... currently reading Fate Strange Fake another masterpiece by Narita-sensei...... (hopefully anime announcement in a few days)
Oh the Strange/Fake anime domains have already been registered online, so the anime is more than likely coming in the future, Narita has expressed that he wants to fully finish the story before the anime starts, so we likely still have to wait a few more years for it.
I highly recommend reading the novels since the anime barely scratched the surface for what's to come plus there's cut characters/content in the novels plus I personally liked the characters from the adapted volumes like the gandors and eve genoard alot more in my personal opinion
If their dream team is to assemble again I would like they animate Narita sensei's "Kuroha & Nijisuke" or "Dead Mound Death Play". Probably can also add Fate/Strange Fake (though I like A-1 to adapt this).
Baccano has a better dub, but Durarara has a better sub. EDIT: Actually the Durarara dub is okay, just not great. A few voices are alright but some I just find annoying. The writing for the dub isn't great either. I often alternate between sub and dub for some reason. Baccano dub is perfect.
Baccano! is my favorite anime of all time. I love the sub and the dub (which you didn't mention sadly) and just everything about it. I'm not as huge on Durarara (first season was the best out of all of them though) however that primarily comes down to the three high school protagonists which got a little too much screen time I feel compared to other interesting characters. All this said though both are excellent anime. As a fate fan I am fully expecting Fate/Strange Fake to be getting an adaptation in the near future and can't wait to see how it ends up.
I actually still haven't seen the Baccano dub. I watched it first time subbed and fell in love with the cast, so now every rewatch has been subbed as well.
@@TheCanipaEffect the dub is fantastic and it's one of my favorite english dubs and most of the performances in the dub fit the characters really well to the point where I could hear those performances in my head when I read the light novels.
@@TheCanipaEffect Interestingly I also watched it subbed the first time and absolutely loved it and never thought they'd be able to do a dub justice but they exceeded my expectations and I actually like the dub a little better than the sub (but it's really close). I highly recommend checking out the english dub the next time you watch it.
Idk if I’m gonna wait until I’ve finished Volume 4 of Baccano to read this, but I’ll take my chances Also I’m expecting some DRRR S2 slander, even though I hated the slander and I loved it more than S1, but compared to S1, it really ain’t that good, that’s me coming from a LN reader. But still I’d prefer the LN for S1 of DRRR because the changes that the anime made didn’t did well for me, but that’s purely subjective
I feel the same way with baccano!'s adaptation because I would have loved to see those scenes from the gandors in volume 4 and that novel wasn't that well adapted plus I also would have liked to see the grey magician especially with his conversation with lua and his interaction with ladd
@@smilejunkie5069 As someone who just finished Volume 4 of Baccano, the moment I knew they didn’t adapt Roy, I’m about to give it a 0/10 Also, they didn’t adapt Fred in it???
@@huaqinteng6350 yep they cut out fred plus they gave Henry's role and part of his personality to nicholas so in the anime nicholas is put on the train tracks of a moving train by claire instead of Henry But yeah imo the baccano! anime by itself is good imo but it could have been a better adaptation but I understand some stuff had to get cut because they basically crammed 4 novels into 16 episodes.
@@smilejunkie5069 I mean 4 volume for 16 eps is sign for a decent adaptation, but if that’s the case I can’t see the hate for S2 since that has a similar episode volume count But yea, I guess I’ll watch it and give my opinions, until Volume 10
@@huaqinteng6350 I haven't seen the durarara!! anime so I can't comment on that. yeah I can agree that adapting 4 novels for that number of episodes is a sign of a decent adaptation but there's so much that they could do especially with how much material that they have to either rush or cut but as long as it's engaging while also keeping the charm that the show itself has made then I personally wouldn't mind imo
fantastic breakdown of the people behind these series. I barely remember anything about baccano, except for that I really liked it. but I've been wanting to rewatch it. It seems you can't please everyone. the "bones what the fuck" tweet is kind of just funny. well dear twitter user, that looks like an almost point for point recreation of a manga panel in an anime scene. I guess they aren't standing quite as close together? I'm just not sure this is a matter that is deserving of twitter users' ire.
I just got done rewatching Baccano! Last night what a crazy coincidence 😂. But, nah you know well the dub for Baccano is better. The light novels are amazing and I love the switch back in timeline.
Yep and it's been ages since vamp! and etsusa bridge released a volume but yeah with baccano! I'm glad that 1935E is currently getting worked on but I don't know much about the fate series so I can't comment on that
What do you think of the news now? I personally think there's no point since it's still too early. I still want ufotable to at least guarantee the eye candy.
Durarara in its entirety and Baccano are to of my favorite anime of ever watched. Highly disagree about Mikado's arc in durarara not being interesting. From start to finish Mikado is an amazing character in the series, comparable to Celty
For durarara!! I've only read the light novel so I can't comment on that but with baccano! The English dub is one of my favorites and the Japanese performances are good imo but the dub fits really well not only in setting but whenever I read the light novels for baccano! I hear the English performances and I think that they fit the characters really well
@@syntheticreality549 nice and yeah the novels have way more material so if you've liked the anime and the adapted novels you'll probably love the later volumes of the series. The 4th novel is my favorite one out of the adapted volumes but the anime butchered it which is unfortunate but yeah the series is currently ongoing with 1935E currently getting worked on and the English translations is currently at volume 20 while there's currently 22 volumes of the series.
I find the first episode of baccano to be too confusing (and full of spoilers) for newcomers. I think is is better to start with episode 2 and watch the first one after episode 13 and before the ovas, at least if it is the first time watching it.
I'd like to agree with this video, however these anime couldn't be further away from masterpieces. I think they're quite overrated and durarara has quite a lot of plot holes actually and rushed arcs. I have no idea how durarara can feel rushed and also the pacing too slow at the same time. I suppose the story feels rushed because the arcs are short, but the arcs also have this boring slow way of story telling that makes them quite painful to watch. Quite a lot of time is spent on silly antics around the town wasting time that could be spent on better story writing and the stories themselves aren't interesting enough to make you really want to keep watching. I think Celty is the most interesting, yet also the 1 character who's story they never really gave you a full answer for in season 1. So you watch all of season 1 just wanting to find out about celty yet it's kinda focused more on other characters then the plot switches between characters backstories and leaves a lot of questions about celty left unanswered for and by the end of season 1 you still don't really know anything about her. Izaya I find to actually be the best character despite being the antagonist, he's basically the only guy that manages to be intesting and mysterious enough to keep you watching to find out more about what he's planning and how he's going to manipulate others. Yet compared to other antagonists in anime, he feels well quite underwhelming and disappointing since he barely even gets screen time and kinda operates behind the scenes. As for Baccano it's just an edgy death game type thing on a train with gangstas. The backstories were all boring, the plot was also boring...fight scenes were interesting and I think the characters are quite cool but the characters stories and the plot of the anime never really got me hooked enough to care about baccano. I finished both durarara and baccano but it was very difficult to watch and not an enjoyable experience. Felt forced since these were just hyped anime that I felt I needed to watch to be otaku lol
This video must be a joke, Baccano is awful. The cast ranges from boring to annoying, the script is the simplest thing you've ever seen(not that this alone is bad), but then they take everything out of order to confuse the viewer and pretend it's a complex anime, the thing is, by episode 3 you get used to the back and forth and you start realizing that everything is actually very boring, the 1800 section is there just to entice you, but nothing really happens there. Isaac and Miria are super annoying, but by the end of the series they're better than every other character, bc you get to the conclusion that everyone else is just super bland and uninteresting. Meanwhile Durara S1 is very solid(not amazing), but subsequent seasons get progressively worse and very very slow, bc you start seeing every event playing out in two different perspectives, sometimes 3, so a story that could've been competently told in 10 episodes, gets stretched to 16/17, adding virtually nothing to the overall story and transforming a simple plot to a convoluted mess, like guess what... Baccano.

Absolutely recommend the light novels! Narita is a genius with storytelling.
Never have I agreed with a youtube video title more than with this one
Durarara had a pretty great soundtrack all around despite the later seasons getting a bit convoluted. Both Baccano and it are still good shows though.
I rewatched season 2 recently to actually understand the plot and here it is in its basic form:
The nebula company from baccano tells employee kasane kujiragi to kidnap three people for scientific research:
celty bc dullanhan
anri's saika blade
and hijiribe ruri for her ancestry was related to vampires (the source of her power)
each arc tries to capitalize on this plot through various subplots like kasane using yodogiri jinnai fake to hire varona and sloan to kidnap anri in that one ep
Durarara is one of my all time favorites and I adore Rohyogo Narita ad a writer so much and I genuinely never see either drrr or narita himself talked about enough. Thank you sooooo much for making this video and I hope more people give both drrrr and baccano a try after watching this!
FINALLY SOMEONE MADE THIS VIDEO!! YOU'RE A TREASURE 🌟🌟🌟
This also means people wont get to see one of my personal favourite arcs be adapted
(SPOILER)
The 2002 Cruise ship hijacking
that's how i feel about the haruhi series
Yes YES THEY ARE.
IN 2022 THEY STILL ARE.
THE BEST FOR ME.
You should add ODDTAXI in this lineup!
I said I watch this if you made it. I m hear, I've also been screaming like a little girl bevause I love the Narita verse so damn much.
No matter how popular Baccano and Durarara are they will always be underrated classics.
Canipa talking about two of my favorite anime brings me joy ☺️
Tbh, you mention how Ten and Ketsu are becoming convaluted and that's exactly why I love them.
And in general, I like Durarara!! more than Baccano! Partly due to how chaotic the series becomes at the end, it becomes a bit absurd you could say and that's what I love about it.
Other thoughts:
Baccano!'s discussion scenes are the things I really love about that one, it conveys the idea of the story and has interesting things to say about story-telling in general.
I loved Durarara all the way to the end of the sequels.
Hope they adapt SH
I’d really love for a season 2 to Baccano!
Baccano and Durarara were my favourite animes to watch and there's always something new whenever I revisit these series. I never read the light novels but with this video, I my appreciation for these series just increased!
Narita manages to make some of the best character casts in anime.
Would love a canipa effect on the monogatari universe one day, such a controversial and unique series
Controversial?
@@TheCanipaEffect Noice! God bless, and god speed! And thanks for answering :*
Alright, finished the video, and it was a good one. I only read Baccano but based on your explanation on it I can see why it's complicating for the normal anime fans, I'll comment more after I watched it fr
For DRRR, I watched it before I read it, and damn the LN is way better, I wouldn't agree switching Mamiya's story with Rio's, since it lessens the impact of her reveal later but I think his encounter with Mamiya feels like a better introduction to Izaya's characters. It's my biggest complaint with S1 and I don't think it's fair to judge S2 for it's adaptation flaws but not some of S1's
Also I want to say I loved Mikado, I thought he was interesting in the anime and decided to learn more about him, and I really appreciated him when I read the LNs themselves, sad we don't have the same thoughts
I love it when I discover weird anime.. like how Satoshi Kon's works are creepy weird while Narita's works are unique weird. Watching these kind of show is refreshing when you take a break from watching mainstream anime.
It's nice seeing baccano! and durarara!! being talked about since they're some of my favorite series
I loved all of Durarara's seasons... I wish we also had an SH anime (and a continuation of the novel) :V
Ryugamine still one of the scariest character i ever seen just because how everyone can be him. He remind me of urasawa naoki main villains.
Mikado is who most people will be if they had the right tools and people
They are both so, so so good. I am actually an x2 defender at heart, but I love breakneck stories
I wish Vamp and Etsusa Bridge would get anime adaptations - they also take place in the same universe as Baccano and Durarara do, and I love those books so, so much.
How did you only like 2 characters?
Canipa effect talking about two of my favorite shows? Yes!
I keep hoping the books get picked up for an English release.
there's actually a rumor about a FSF anime being announced soon.
A twitter account was created and a website was registered.
@@xeno4445 Oh!! That is interesting. I've always been under the impression that they wouldn't adapt it until the books were done. Gotta keep my eyes open now.
Well, Dead Mount Death Play is airing....
I actually really enjoyed x2, including the end, though I wish it could have been more about mikado, whose fall was a masterstroke imo and recontexualizes the first arc of the first season.
True, so so true! Best animes in my list, but I ll still prefere Durarara!! over Bacano! (and other animes)
I would like a Canipa Effect on the 3 last episodes of Ayakashi: classic japanese horror and their spin-off, Mononoke. I'm curious how the artstyle ended up being as it is, and how they decided such a drastic change for these last 3 episodes
Durarara is still one of my favorite anime to this day! I LOVE it and I will always defend it!
Thank god, I was waiting so long for this. I absolutely love how these two anime are so unique in its story and representation of the characters.
Narita goes real hard, can't wait for the Fate/Strange Fake anime
The music used at 0:00 immediately got memories of questioning why Rail Chaser is hot and my mates and I casually going "Carollolloll~"
Edit: 9:55 Shiiiiiiiiiiii- watch out for casual street lights appearing from the sky.
I used to be really defensive of the later seasons of Durarara because it was my favourite anime for a really long time but these days, yeah. I still love the show very much, but that animation did take a bit of a hit
not only the animation, everything got progressively worse.
I agree
so-so, The later seasons of Durarara didn't adapth the light novels as well as the first season did and Bacanoo needs more seasons or a reboot.
Agreed. DRRR got mediocre as time went by and Baccano while very good suffers from the pitfalls of the average 2000's anime
I agree the ending parts could have been done better but it still kickedass the weapon scene :) still dope
Many more recent shows have been far worse yet received pretty well
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 you know that Durarara and Baccano are still ongoing? so we can always get a new anime.

Love Durarara, might watch Baccano because of this!
19:53 I'm just here for the Fate/Strange Fake shout out :^), can't wait for Narita to show off Archer Heracles, the actual Rider of Plagues or just straight up the greatest incarnation of the metaphor of Jack the Ripper being unknownable in myth and thus formless....in like 2050 when he's done and lets people adapt his stuff again :^)
jokes aside yeah I do love just how appreciatiable the non-sequiteur/massive character roster storytelling is handled in Narita works, contrast to, say, a battle royale genre with a similarly large cast and possibly each getting their lime-light but really cutting up events to make it a real audience engaging puzzle to follow.
Only others I can think put as much work in both a VERY Sakuga centric team with an insanely complicated and off-kilter storytelling is SHAFT x Nisio Isin's Bakemonogatari story telling, ESPECIALLY the Second Season just dropping a whole epilogue season in the middle before they even finished the initially planned prequel movie(s) [initially planned adaption 3 years after the LN, then it took another 5 to break it down into 3 films by 2016]....Maybe Paranoia Agent too
...I also appreciate that while Durarara S1 is well beloved, that there's acknowledgement that Season 2+3+4 just was WAY too ambitious and cast-bloated and me personally while it obviously broke focus and had animation production issues, it just REALLY made the main character conflict reveals drag forever in the finale while it cut to nearly every other character who only could contribute a "welp, I'm also here...just sitting at the bar...while shit's going down elsewhere" vibe...really it's just extra sad that for all the massive extended cast of great characters...only the Izaya x Shizuo doujins got any love
naritas absolutly destroyed my ability to enjoy other ensamble cast works he set the bat too high.
Looks like they're already ruining it by not hiring ufotable
Shizuo is the GOAT
Here watching like you said to.
Odd Taxi is my favourite multi-perspective anime.
Didnt get the joker vs batman comparison… interesting…
durarara later seasons are fine story got more clear unlike in season 1. ending was pretty satisfying
I personally like DRRR over Baccanno actually.
Hmmm I think Kekkai Sensen can also be categorised with Baccano and DRRR. No linear plot points and lovable characters.
Also a favourite by an exciting director who changed around the source material!
i loved baccano. one of my favourite ever. couldn't get into durarara though
If their dream team is to assemble again I would like they animate Narita sensei's "Kuroha & Nijisuke" or "Dead Mound Death Play". Probably can also add Fate/Strange Fake (though I like A-1 to adapt this).
My biggest problem with this video is that you put Baccano! music in it and now I you really distracted me with Makoto Yoshimori's score.
I wish I could find a reasonably translated F S/F novel out there. Bumping for the algorithm.
Congrats on the advert
who animated the beginning sequence its so clean and well made
Agree!!
excited to watch this :}
Aniplex of America HAS the license to Baccano. They just arent doing anything with it.
Your F/SF comment give me hope.
Great video.
They are indeed masterpieces.
btw Dead Mount Death Play is getting an anime adaptation so Narita W
Baccano! is my favorite anime of all time.
Idk if I’m gonna wait until I’ve finished Volume 4 of Baccano to read this, but I’ll take my chances
Also I’m expecting some DRRR S2 slander, even though I hated the slander and I loved it more than S1, but compared to S1, it really ain’t that good, that’s me coming from a LN reader.

How do we get the streaming services to pick up 15-year-old content?
I just got done rewatching Baccano! Last night what a crazy coincidence 😂. But, nah you know well the dub for Baccano is better. The light novels are amazing and I love the switch back in timeline.
Don't give me that Fate/strange Fake hopium. Narita is releasing 1 volume/year, and we have not even reach the climax yet.

Baccano yes, durarara on other hand...sadly no.

@@AnacondaHL not sure masterpiece is the word for either of them but yes they do have iconic scenes

Durarara!!
is Definitely No Masterpiece
Baccano.
Fuck I'd finally managed to forget that Chaos Dragon existed why did you have to remind me
