    The great thing about Wit Studio and Cloverworks are doing is expanding upon the manga, especially in episode 5 I could see and feel how the play in the castle would be a core memory in Anya's mind. Overall it's soo amazing and can't wait for the rest of the manga to be animated😊

    • @no_mnom

      Chapter 6 is easily my least favorite in the manga. Episode 5...it's still disconnected from the rest of the series once the family heads to the castle, but at least it's a fun sequence and not just the setup for a neat but brief fight scene.
      @@no_mnom Yeah, but I'd rather get to chapter 30 with 25 episodes of this quality than chapter 44 with a more literal adaptation. It just means there's a bit more manga new fans have to read to catch up once the season's over.

      It isn’t exactly a heavy plot driven manga either even if there is an actual ongoing plot compared to other gag manga. If anything the pacing would be too fast for anime if it followed the manga. The show’s about the 3 in the family that’s what matters and that’s what they buffer the most.

    • @timothymclean
      @timothymclean 2 года назад +12

      @@andylozano5193 Yeah. The figure I've heard quoted most often is that about 1.5-2 chapters are usually adapted per episode. At that rate, we'd be moving past early Eden and into the Yuri arc. Agreed. I'm amazed at how much care they put into every episode they've adapted so far. The manga's got some great action, but it's got pretty comic strip-like paneling (like you're reading a Sunday comic - not a bad thing, just not as dynamic as other approaches are), so the animation the WIT and Cloverworks teams have brought in to fill those gaps are just... overflowing with their love.

    YESS THE SCENE WHERE ANYA SHOWS THE HOUSE AROUND TO YOR IS GENIUNELY A BIG DEAL, didnt expect any anime to come up with that, cuz these subtle moments are the real relatable ones. My niece would do that everytime her family shifted to new apartments and the attitude was spot on.
    I feel like this part was wit studio's doing bc they tend to show the more practical and subtle relatable sides of life, and avoid anime tropes as much as possible. Where cloverworks probably did the moment where anya wears school uniform at tailor shop and some pink background with sparkles and pink bubble effects blasted around, that was the peak epitome of anime moment. Its what most animes do whether the charac is a kid, the shojo mc, the shonen/isekai mc's crush, or the one who crushes on mc. Not that it's a bad trope, it's just that when it becomes the norm, it gets boring and slightly cringe.
    I think Spy x Family makers are experimenting and trying to find the middle ground between Western and Eastern presentation of stories and scenarios, by doing both in a balanced way.

      India- someone does shocking stuff, camera pans to people's face with PowerPoint effects.
      Philippines- just when wife/mc starts their revenge plan after being so much hurt, camera zoom to their face showing a sassy/confident/smug face look with some swooping sound effects
      Korea- dude does sth romantic, bg music plays while camera goes slow-mo showing both girl and guy twinkling eyes and trying to look at other directions bc shy uwu. Or even if dood gets jealous/heartbroken and zoom into his angsty/puppy eyes sad face
      Japan- like when power rangers transform scene happens (live action)
      Note: these arent the classics/fav recommendation shows of ppl in their countries, but MOSTLY the ones that fill up tv slots when theres nothing else/mass produced shows even when locals are meh abt it.the question is why is this the default style when producing/directing them.
      Iirc Ted talk or a yt channel called out the Eastern vs Western storytelling formula, I'll give once I get it.

It was a very good decision. I think Loid, Yor, and Anya work so well because none of them are normal, but they all want some amount of normalcy in their lives. They don't care about the quirks (most of the time they don't notice anyway) and appreciate the good in each other. Having an imperfect family is all they each really need and, to varying degrees, want. This adaptation strikes the balance between action-thriller and slice of life fluffiness.

    It'd definitely worth mentioning just how much the two teams seem to be benefiting from having each other on board. Wit is full of consummate professionals that can put nearly anything they can think of into motion with seemingly little effort, but they can tend to be a bit mechanical with a lot of their plotting and pacing, making the twists and turns of their stories feel a little too on beat. On the other hand, CloverWorks has remarkable imagination and vision... but... well... when they get off track and lose focus (especially in plot heavy stories), things go very wrong, very quickly. Even Horimiya has serious pacing issues, which is not something I thought I'd ever say about a slice-of-life show.
    I feel like their styles compliment each other extremely well, and the show is much better for the collaboration. Wit reigns in Cloverworks just enough that they can manage to create a filler episode that is as good, if not better, than the actual adapted chapters, while Cloverworks almost certainly inspired Wit to push forward with some of the more ridiculous cuts in their episodes (seizure horse, anyone?)
    Also, you didn't mention it, and I feel that I have to every time it's left out: anyone who isn't watching Ya Boy Kongming! is missing out.

    Super interesting to discover the behind the scenes with how Wit and Clover studios worked together and how they split the tasks. It's quite an uncommon arrangement they did, and seeing the result, I wish more studios would do it. Collaborate instead of competing. Not only it spreads the workload, leading to better rested animators, thus better work quality overall, with respected deadlines, so it's a win-win situation.
    Also, the ep.5 "filler" part was so satisfying to watch, so that the manga reader would still have new shit to discover. In an ideal world, that's what all fillers should be : building up upon the already established story, and doing it for only half an episode instead of entire arcs or adding new characters, so that you don't risk to mess it up. The longer (or more) you add, the more you risk to fundamentally mess up with the overall story structure and logic (looking at you Saint Seiya, Bleach, and FMA).
    This series is clearly a labor of love and you can see it from everyone of its pores.

    this show completely deserves the hype it's getting, it's just plain GOOD. And I'm sure going in everyone knew this was a property with enormous potential, because the story is so solid and so accessible to any kind of audience. It tells one of the best kinds of story you can possibly tell: found family. Show me someone that doesn't like found family stories and you'll be showing me a dead eyed sociopath. There is just something fundamentally beautiful about people coming together and forming these close bonds. And you add in all these secrets and suspense, and then the most genius trick of all: the dumbass child knows everyone's secrets but reacts in a realistic way for a child to act. This has several functions, but the most important is that Anya is our viewpoint character, and her point of view is 'this is SO COOL'. And because she think's it's cool, it's hard not to agree. It's difficult not to be swept away in her enthusiasm for her new life, and to root for her. How could you not?
    and then you add to that with Loid and Yor both at their core being incredibly lonely people who never realized until now how much they needed real human connection, and how quickly both of them come to care, and care an AWFUL LOT about Anya.

      the show is a really fun one anyone can enjoy, but the one I don't agree about is that it really doesn't have much of a solid, grounded story, it has an end goal, which is to get close to desmond but then what? there's really not a lot to the story but I think it's the characters that make the show fun, like I really don't care much how the their plan plays out, it's just fun yknow, and yor being badass is always nice to see, and more characters are still coming later to make it all the more fun

    • @aaliyaramanathan5362
      @aaliyaramanathan5362 Год назад

      @@emmanuellalfakzuala252 that's definitely not even close to the end goal I'd say. Getting close to Desmond is the next step in the plan. Loid has to make contact, establish the severity of the tensions between the two countries, and defuse it by either talking Desmond down somehow, or otherwise neutralising him as a threat without publicly drawing attention to it because that could spark another all-out war. I would say there's heaps to the story in the way of political intrigue. Don't even get me started on the definitely-not-Stasi force Yuri is employed in, and how that factors into the constant push and pull as the countries barely teeter between cold and hot war. There's going to be a lot that plays into that, just like in real life. It's just not as horrifying or depressing to watch as maybe AOT because of how lighthearted and sweet it is, and how colourful the characters are.
      I think it's fine if you don't like or pay attention to that stuff as much - I'm just a huge nerd for political intrigue, but I think it's a crime to argue that it isn't a solid story with very well fleshed-out foundations and a sociopolitical climate that I could get a grasp of within 12 episodes or less.

      @@aaliyaramanathan5362 The end goal is getting close to Desmond, at least of now, Loid has no idea what to do when he does that nor do WISE. Here's where my problem with series lies, it feels like Tatsuya Endo, the writer, does not know where he wants the story to go or how, the series releases bi-weekly and Loid hasn't really progressed much in his mission, that's a problem for a bi-weekly series. Look I get it, it's gonna take time for Anya but it gets boring a lot of the times. The way the story is told is too lighthearted for its own good, again the problem goes back to the end goal - getting close to Desmond, and then what? kill him? that's definitely going to cause war between Ostania and Westalis, and it doesn't really fit the tone of the story in a way, talking him down? that seems rather silly, unless Desmond isn't really planning to start a war as they(WISE) are led to believe. Look, here's my stance on the series - as of now, it just seems like a huge mess that could possibly end up being worse, but if Tatsuya Endo manages to execute the story right despite all its problems, then I'd be really impressed. So yeah, the story really isn't a solid, grounded story as it's too ludicrous and has no idea where it's going.
      And yeah, I'm not really intrigued by politics in general

    Oh, now everything makes sense, Hunter x Hunter 98 was my first anime and it just shaped the way I consume anime, the same director is on Spy x Family (which is one of the BEST adaptations I've seen in years) and does what he knows to do best; adding to the adaptation to create a whole new piece of art. Everything makes sense now!

    It's so fun rewatching Spy x Family because every scene has such detail that you're bound tor realize little things like Loid putting his cup down, how their movements are so smooth. That's probably why I love rewatching this anime so much ( Excluding my bias for the manga hehe) many other anime just cut to the next scene or simplify movements ( Eg. using chibi versions of characters to show excited movements like jumping etc) But Spy x Family? You can see Anya jumping up and down, how Yor's punch can look so painful and real, how Loid's little movement behing the shadows are animated too. The team gave their 110% for this anime, it's touching how someone would take so much care and consideration to every little scene. I'm grateful.

On like my 4th rewatch i had the manga open while watching and seeing how identical some of the frames were was so neat to see. And the changes didn't feel like filler at all. Its insane how well it all works.

    9:22 is one of the things that makes this anime good. A lot of adaptations just "animate" the manga panels. This one goes beyond, like with your example of the spy anime episode recreation.
    What's most vile is when anime adaptations literally just draw the exact same panels from the manga and only animate the mouths or make the shots panning. I'm looking at you, Shokugeki and garbage like The Way House Husband. Seriously, the latter is disgusting, and the director even says that it's intentional. Just because it's intentional doesn't mean it's good. Fortunately, this Spy x Family cured me of that vileness.

    • @KoreanVHSVault
      @KoreanVHSVault 2 года назад +2

      What I read was that it was intentional because the manga artist was pretty against making an anime adaptation and only consented under the premise of making it a manga recreation. Not sure how true it is bc I just read it at passing but kinda sad (if true) to think a project was doomed from a beginning bc the deal with the original artist.

    • @aaliyaramanathan5362
      @aaliyaramanathan5362 Год назад +1

      @@KoreanVHSVault I suppose the problem with making an adaptation of a manga whose humour is derived largely from its choppiness is that in filling the gaps between panels, you lose the effect/abruptness and therefore the humourous quality of a large portion of Househusband's gags.

    Commenting before watching the video, just to say somethin', I started Spy X Family through the manga because it's my preferred medium, and just wanna say, I think it's absolutely awesome, wholesome and sweet writing and character interactions and dialogue, and well timed and paced action and comedy. I've only seen clips of the anime and wasn't that thrilled, VA's sound kinda off to me. And also hasn't adapted all the current chapters, the current chapters rn are insane!! Anyways gonna start watching now.
    Edit: Finished watching and I'm astonished at the work of the adaptation both WIT and Cloverworks have put into. This is what it should be for all anime studios trying to adapt a manga, to enhance the experience of the story itself. And they did a damn good job at it. I'm not sure if I'll be interested in going through the series again, but I'll do so in-case I forget the plot. Also excellent video Canipa, this is my first vid watching you and you earnt my sub.
