Ah beautiful Swan Paul I like a bit of wildlife. Looks very tranquil in that area & very scenic. It's nice seeing progress being made on the canal it can be a bit slow going at times but that depends on a multiple of reasons why. Thanks for the update Paul cheers! 😊❤👍
I'm happy to see more updates as canal progresses. Bike ride on Thursday 31st Oct over to Tapton then Hollingwood for a cuppa, on to Staveley and over the new TPT bridge. Returned home via old railway line to Poolsbrook then Clowne Greenway to Creswell, Langwith and Shirebrook. Several people on the bridge as I rode over, noticed a bit of bounce!
No boredom here! Please keep visiting as work progresses. I really like that comment about this bridge being the latest on the GCML. Being a bowstring, it does look in keeping too. As always, love seeing old photos.
@@WobblyRunner @CourtAboveTheCut - the bridge cost itself is just short of £1m. The other bit of misinformation spreading is about the horse steps - you can ride a horse across the bridge, the steps are just there at the request of the British Horse Society as some riders / horses may be nervous of riding across such a structure.
That new bridge looks a pearler, Paul. It's amazing, though, how the landscape has changed, and to think that the GC mainline ran through the area, the new bridge being the replacement. Good to see the old photos of that area, and how you've compared the old and the new layouts. Many thanks for this film upload.
There's been a number of RUclips videos about them, but the two railvay viaducts/bridges over the Manchester Ship Canal near Warrington and Partington are worth looking at. They were part of the Cheshire Lines route that went from Liverpool to Godley Junction and Stockport. In 1985 they were closed due to them being in poor condition and British Rail didn't want to pay for their repair. As a result the Cheshire Lines routes via Skelton Junction were severed and developed on. The bridges are in a real bad state, so someone at some stage is either going to have to shell out for their demolition or some angry ship's captain will bre sending them an angry letter after having a steel bridge drop on to his ship - lol
Interesting... As luck would have it, I've been filming some Clc stuff this week. And I do want to do more east of Woodhead stuff going towards Liverpool. Great shout👍😃
Thanks for indulging us fans of the Chesterfield, Paul. Maybe you should tell your wife that you're complemented that she finds the sound of your voice so comforting that it lulls her to sleep. Cheers! Scott
Interesting video, your comment that the GCR was the HS2 of the past intrigued me and I wonder if the debacle that HS2 became could've beeb avoided if the planners had decided to use the GCR route instead of trying to create a new route.
The irony being that duplication now, in most cases, would be a life saver, especially for goods services. The lines coming out of Manchester and heading North and North east are at saturation point ! Short sighted as always !
Great one Paul , you were only filming two days behind me , here on the new bridge. With you announcing that you are. giving Chesterfield.Canal related stuff a rest, I'll take it that it's still acceptable for me to post my feature lol?
That's some project Paul, will that visitors centre or whatever it is be sustainable without the canal being connected to the wider network? There is a similar place near Willington in Derbyshire but obviously it has passing boats
@@WobblyRunner The Staveley Waterside building is supposed to be a mix of retail / leisure downstairs (likely including a cafe or similar) and offices upstairs.
Shame there is no room for a railway as I'm too old for a railway and my wife is disabled all these lovely places but wanking and Bikes are a No go shame but for the majority rail is still king.
teddystream plz do a spellcheck & edit your reply you put something else instead of walking which is a bit rude & we'd be arrested for indecent exposure if we did what you put lol
thank you, please keep up the good work on the Chesterfield canal
Cheers Robin 👍🙂

Cheers Carol. It really is a beautiful section of canal.
I’m not bored of these vids yet. This is one of my favourite parts of the canal. So much going on and that was before the current work started! 😊

😊 thank you. You'll be glad to know I've already lined up my next Chesterfield Canal video.
...and another GCR series
@@WobblyRunner Nice!
Keep them coming mate, very interesting.
£25.2 mill is the entire project I think. The bridge I believe was about a mill
Amazing how misinformation spreads isn't it. I've seen a few on Facebook jumping on incorrect facts for their own agenda

Very interesting to see the progress going on with the bridge. Not been yet , I'm going to try and have a look sometime in the week.
Enjoy 🙂

You're welcome. A fascinating area. Love the railway history in that area.
Great vlog of this ongoing project. Many thanks for making and sharing it is much appreciated.
Thanks John. Hopefully a lot more progress to report on in the coming years
This has been a great series so far, very interesting.
Cheers Jon
Erecting the newest bridge ensures the survival of the railway line. Nice to see that it will endure.

Yeah I often wondered why some of the GC wasn't reused. I guess it didn't go near they wanted to go. The eastern leg wasn't too far off in places.

Was travelling between Manchester and Leeds yesterday. Trains packed.

Visitors centre Russ?

Ahh I was thinking that's what that building was
Ahhh I see 😄
I think it's private offices/workshops etc.
Maybe in the future, but I know there's the Hollingwood hub centre close by
