    I have one. It’s a 2000 with an Allison 5 speed. I drive it every day. I absolutely love it. The only two draw backs are that top speed is 59mph and the ride is so rough. I got passed by a school bus on interstate!!! Anyway, great video. Hope that you enjoy your truck as much as I enjoy mine!!!

    I've been checking out your channel for a while now, (I got hooked right away on the free plane video lol).
    I can relate to all the things you do because I do them as well, I'm always out rescuing something that's been sitting for years but I've never really documented any of them, And as a matter of fact I just scored a 1988 GMC6000 EX U-Haul, 26' cab and chassis lo-pro, all original and it has a little bonus, it's equipped with the factory EZ-load option, the rear is airbagged, pull a knob on the dash and it's lowers the rear substantially for easy loading/unloading, it has an engine/ belt driven compressor with all airlines intact, it's been sitting for 17yrs, (I WILL MAKE IT RUN AGAIN!)
    I'm thinking about making a lowrider stubby myself, I have everything I need to bag the front as well.....you've inspired me to document this whole thing, thanks!

    I drove these back when they were new for a towing service. We had non low profile flatbeds with the T444E & Allison. We also had a monster of a wrecker with a DT466E and a 6 speed manual. I loved these trucks.

    Alison Transmissions have been around for a long time. They used to be owned by GM, but most commercial vehicles with automatic trans have an Alison. Until a few years ago you could buy an F650 Ford with a Cummins engine and an Alison trans. The smaller Ford trucks had powerstrokes. Gm, Ford, International, Kenworth etc...all of the 26K GVWR and larger have the option of engine and trans combinations. Some of the Internationals probably had Detriot Diesels. lol

    • @josefastboats5874
      @josefastboats5874 2 года назад +1

      You are indeed correct. There’s some internationals with Detroit Series 50 engines. The smaller brother of the 60 Series Detroit in Big Semi’s. They are 4 cylinder with BIG POWER and torque for being a 4 cylinder. Basically a big 60 Series Detroit with two cylinders chopped off. And they’re extremely reliable. Really realllyyyy good engines.

    I have worked on several of these trucks, one issue I ran into is the factory ecu for the 444e will only allow for 2400 rpm, the truck I was working on had a 7 speed manual, I modified a harness From a 1999 f250 6 speed 7.3 and used the ford idm and pcu. Then I was able to purchase a tuner for the ford truck . and the same engine would turn 3,800 rpm. The ford is also is a split shot on the injectors, I used a set of 100hp injectors

    • @rebuildrescue

      @@HJZ75driver *plenum misspelled, sorry. A set of intake pieces, they regulate airflow into the engine/intake valves. The size of the hole in the plenum plays a big part in performance of the engine and how much air it can move in. More air allows more fuel = more power.

I believe back in the day Allison was part or GM,along with Detroit Diesel. Now Detroit is part of Mercedes-Benz,I'm not sure about Allison. And some years ago,Ford had a fall out with International. Now Ford diesels are a in-house design.

    Need to junk the rubberband trans (545)and throw a 643 trans with a lockup converter. differant flexplate but shifter and kick down solenoid hooks up the same. trans is a little longer so you will have to shorten the drive shaft. The rear diff is an S135 and is most likely extremely low geared. Aftermarket makes several better (higher) gearing choices.

    Looks like it'll be a cool build. Can't wait to see more episodes. Also, Ford is the only diesel truck manufacturer to build their own engine in house. As of 2011, they ended their partnership with Navistar, formally International, and design and build the Power Stroke exclusively in house. GM's Duramax, manufactured by Isuzu, is almost a GM engine as GM owns controlling stock in Isuzu making it a defacto GM company. Dodge still uses Cummins to design and build their engines, the only quality thing on their trucks, oops! Did I say that out loud!?🤣

    Couple of notes: 1) my '04 4300 has 19.5 Alcoa wheels with 10 bolt pattern. So they are available. Maybe just an axel swap. I'd send pics, but the 'comments' do not allow. 2) Allison is owned by GMC. Asins (used in the Dodges) is owned by Toyota. 3) IH's wiring is a nightmare, or at least in '04 it is. I press the Fog rocker switch which pokes a micro switch which alerts the sub circuit board which tells the computer which turns on the fog lights. (Whew). I am ripping all that out and going to hard switches. (I'm old fashion that way). BTW - If you want to change what the switches do, IH will sell you a $600 program which lets you re-program the computer. 4) The IH engine is pretty bullet proof. Ford insisted on more horsepower and tweeked up the engines. That is why there are complaints about short life and injector failure. The stock International engines will run for ever.

I would only recommend one but since It has been done if you're looking up on RUclips 7.3 l, Gasser on tune Put up some impressive numbers But I would only guess to me only use one Because I think it would definitely be overkill if There were 2 on that motor. Seeing what it done with the gas 7.3 l Untuned I wonder what it would do with a diesel 7.3 l?

    From what I've heard, GM doesn't _actually_ have Allison transmissions in their Allison-branded Duramax trucks. Because, that's just what it is - Allison *_branded._*
    They're not really built by Allison. But they have allowed GM to put their brand on it. All it means is that Allison has approved the design or whatever.

  • @towlife270
    @towlife270 2 года назад +1

    That would be a big negative on the power stroke. That name is a ford brand for the design of the 7.3 turbo diesel that Navistar manufactured for them. The motor in this truck is a T444E which means turbo charged 444 cubic inch electronic injection. This motor makes less power than the variant made for ford but cranks more torque. It does have the exhaust back pressure valve or warm up valve as you called it. The lp and lpx versions sit low for fuel economy as they are meant to be long haul trucks that are road use only. The standard 4700 sits higher to be used in rougher terrain. The brake system is not electric over hydraulic. It is hydraulic with hydro boost and the hydro system has a backup electric motor built into it in the event of a power steering pump failure. Please study your vehicles before spreading disinformation to those who might not know. Anything above 210 hp which is the highest factory rating on these engines will greatly reduce reliability. These engines come in variations of 170hp, 190hp and 210hp.

    a better idea is to remove all of but 1 leaf spring ( remove the rubber bushings out the spring eyes and machine and install stainless steel bushings utilizing larger diameter bolts with holes drilled into them and the bushings to be able to grease them ) and fabricate brackets and mounts to install air bags ( old school semi`s use that very system ) using the factory leaf springs is a far simpler system

    Ditch the Allison, and put a 13 speed behind it. No only gives you amazing top end, you also gain fuel economy as well, because you have enough gear to let the rpms come down. Plus, it takes advantage of the massive rear end under it.

    • @nathanieljohnson4833

      Was a trucker for 10 years (1,200,000 miles), but was pulled off for having issues with my CPAP (sleep machine). Driven everything except fuel and explosives. Doing this lil rig up big rig style only adds to the wow factor. Some aluminum fuel tanks (take offs from a junk yard, then polish to perfection. It'll really make her pop, plus international has polished side tank with aluminum steps to add to the being factor.

    Hybrid 230s at least for injectors, adrenaline or terminator hpop, decent size turbo... Bottom end should hold up assuming it in good shape should be around 400hp and if u spring for a camshaft, you should get damn close to 500hp right there

    Brought here by the 401... what ever happened to the other projects hinted at in this video? Sidelined for the plane instead?
