    Dear Robbie, I really enjoyed watching your video (already several times now 🙂) I did a couple of bleeds on my charger 2 damper, but still no firm lockout. So I guess it must be a problem internally. I will open the compression unit soon for inspection of that special O-ring you mentioned around 6min30 in your video. I hope it is replaceable on the normal Charger 2 damper (please advise), because I saw another video of you on a Raceday Charger, and there you had to install another special piece with an O ring that could be changed. Does this make sense?

    Thank you Robbie for the video!! Not seen anything else like this that goes into this level of detail, much appreciated! I happened to be watching as the charger 2.1 damper in my zeb ultimate has appeared to fail as the forks have a very harsh top out feeling and the rebound adjuster appears to make no difference to how fast the fork returns. There doesn't seem to be any ramp up which probably means the compression dials aren't functioning correctly either! There is a slight clicking from the fork aswell. In your experience, will a full damper rebuild sort this issue or is it worth just getting a new damper? Thanks!!

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  Год назад

      Thanks for your message and support of our channel, much appreciated. By the description you have given it sounds like the oil has leaked out of your damper. If this is the case then a service and re-bleed of the damper should sort this out. Failing this then if you are the first owner of the fork and its within the warranty period, Rock Shox should replace the damper for you at no charge.

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  2 года назад

      Hi FBI-Fipo, thanks for your message and support of the channel. The water and mud gets into the cavity that holds the spring for the return on the remote. This is because the remote wheel and LSC knob are not sealed but run on a plastic bushing for smooth lock and unlocking, this busing/ remote junction is when the water and mud get inside.

      Hi and thanks for your message and support of our channel. I recommend that your damper be serviced, opened and checked, if the oil is coming out of the compression knob the skirt seal definitely needs replacing. At this time the service agent can check the LSC and the HSC to confirm what the problem is. I believe this could be dirt blocking the LSC rod at the top where the rod enters the compression dial.

    Thanks for detailed explanation of this. My fork is stuck with the lockout on. The top small lockout lever should twist a quarter turn between lockout on and off but it can spin 360 without making any effect. What part of the internal mechanism would you suggest has gone wrong here? Could it be a result of vertical impact and maybe fluid going between fork parts or is it something in the damper mechanism that has become dislodged? Any help appreciated!

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  Год назад +1

      Hi Samuel, thanks for your message and support of our channel. If you have the charger damper as in the video then it sounds like the pins controlling the lockout shaft have broken off or the shaft has separated at the top. Not sure what could have caused this but its unlikely that a crash could do this unless the fork has taken the full force of the crash on the lever side. I would need to see this to ultimately give you an answer but I recommend a new damper.

    Hey, thank you very much for this very helpful and detailed video!!! Please keep up the good work! I'm surprised how much dirt has accumulated under the membrane! I have a few questions about this:
    1. how long has the fork not been serviced?
    2. at what interval is this service planned? In the RS service manuals for my ZEB '22 I don't see anything about this!
    3. or does this service possibly only apply to certain Charger 2.1 models (year of manufacture, fork model etc.)?

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  Месяц назад +1

      Hi s.kolodzie6007, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Yes actually we were also very surprised at how much dirt and water can collect under the remote. To answer your questions, 1. since this is not a "serviceable part" we don't find any connection between the fork service and the dirt under this section other than riding in wet or dusty conditions. 2. Stick to the service recommendation from Rock Shock for your ZEB and make sure its done by a certified technician. 3. It seems that the XC charger damper with remote interface is most affected by the dirt getting in, not so much on the manual and so for never on the Charger for the ZEB so don't worry about this on your fork. Just ensure its cleaned with water with a mild bike wash using a soft cloth.

    Amazing video. Thanks for making it. I would have a question about a new Lyrik Ultimate. I just bought it few days ago and when I fully close HSC and LSC I do not feel any difference when both are fully open. Do you have an experience that the new fork would have some problem with damper? THis is my first fork which has the separate HSC and LSC knobs.

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  2 года назад +4

      Hi Jozef, thanks for your message and support of our channel. The damper you have has the HSC and LSC separately adjustable as both have a complete different function. The LSC will reduce bobbing and unwanted movement of bumps whose force does not exceed 400mm/s. The LSC is a parabolic needle which reduces the oil flow through an open port forcing more oil through the shims thereby increasing the low speed compression. The HSC works on a different circuit and will only effect compression on big hits, that exceed the 400mm/s that the LSC works on. So your question- the LSC dial will have a minimal effect when pressing on the handle bars due to the slow compression power you are putting on the bars, likewise the HSC will only be felt on big hits like drops or jumps. My recommendation is first ride for 30 min to warm up the damper then make some changes to the LSC and HSC on a course that has some berms and drops. The changes you make here should be evident in the forks handling.

      Hi cristianramirezargel8290 thanks for your message and support of out channel. So when you removed the damper there was a silver tube section roughly 8cm long that was still attached to the main air seal head, correct? if so this silver tube section belongs on the damper body and not connected to the main air seal head. This should be removed and refitted to the damper for it to pass through the 2 X ring seals at the top of the stanction. The damper needs this piece attached as its tapered at the bottom allowing it to pass through these seals. Trying to fit the damper without this part fitted will result in the X ring seals being cut.

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  Год назад

      Hi Raf i , thanks for your message. the lockout spring is quite tricky to set, firstly you need to ensure that the high and low speed needles are completely turned out to the negative on the compression body. Then fit the spring into the hole inside the damper. I use a 13mm or an 11mm ring spanner to hold the top of the compression body. Then ensure the outer end of the spring is inserted into the compression housing, at this stage do not push the compression body into the damper as the high speed needle will push into the damper and you cannot set the spring with the high speed needle in this position. Carefully turn the compression body clockwise against the spring and when the keyway is reached push the compression body into the damper. Test the lockout actuation with the ring spanner to ensure you have the full movement.

    Was too much oil added to the lowers and that is why it got up to the bladder or does that just happen after awhile?

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  Год назад +1

      Hi m m, thanks for your message, herewith the explanation. I see many shops and individuals doing frequent lower leg services which is fantastic for the fork, however just doing a lower leg service without bleeding the damper at the same time creates additional problems. The damper can and will ingest oil into itself during the process of riding. There are a number of factors causing this but it will happen regardless. When the lower leg service is performed a specific oil is added to the lowers to assist with the lubrication of the stanctions and bushings, this oil is very different to the oil in the damper and is not designed for damping. So when the lower leg oil gets ingested into the damper it creates a different damping curve as it mixes with the damper oil and it adds oil to the system which can only take a limited amount of oil. When the damper becomes overfilled the bladder is stretched and when compressed can touch the internal sides of the stanchions causing the damper to bind and the bladder to pop. In short I recommend a full damper bleed every time a lower leg service is performed.

      Hi James, thanks for your message and support of our channel. I would not change the 5wt as the viscosity index difference between the Rock Shox 2,5w and the Rock Shox 5wt at 100Deg C is quite significant which means less damping as the temperature in the damper increases. I find the main issue in your instance is from the air chamber; if you pump the fork to the correct sag for your weight it will most lightly feel sticky to get the shock moving but then blow through the travel i.e. no mid stroke support? The best fix I find is to increase the negative chamber or to take control of the negative chamber by making the fork dual air. Send me an email to rbcbikes@gmail.com and I will give you the details.

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  2 года назад +1

      Hi Marco, thanks for your message and support of our channel. It sounds like the brass guide pins have broken in the damper. These pins guide the parabolic needle assembly allowing it to close the low speed oil port. A suspension service company should be able to open this up to check if the damage is repairable or not. In a case like this we would open the damper and check the damage to see if its repairable, most times its repairable so quite inexpensive, however be prepared to purchase a new damper if you cannot get this repaired.

    • @RBC_tech
      @RBC_tech  16 дней назад

      Hi Robert, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Just to confirm, is the damper leaking? if not then I would not recommend opening the damper to replace the skirt seal. All that's needed is a flush out the old oil and fresh oil added to keep the damper smooth and in good working order. Also if you have the 2.1 RC2 damper then you should not need the lockout spring so if you buy the kit, the spring will not be needed. Thanks Robbie
