THE JOURNEY From Addiction to Recovery - Taylor's Story

  • Taylor is a woman in long-term recovery who has broken free from the chains of generational trauma seeking of a life of fulfillment. She has risen up from the depths of despair in a life of addiction, incarceration, homelessness, and hopelessness, seeking a way to find meaning by turning her life’s challenges and mistakes into the strengths needed to pursue a life helping others.
    When Taylor tested positive for drugs upon the birth of her son, CPS immediately stepped in to ensure the safety of her newborn. She was placed in the 328th court and participated in the VOCA project where she would engage with Fort Bend County Behavioral Health Services for a year learning about Trust Based Relational Intervention while she fought for rights to her child. Taylor found a save haven for healing and reunification with her son at Santa Maria Hostel where she would initiate her recovery and begin to pursue a career as Substance Use Disorder Counselor to help others overcome similar obstacles.

    I’m nearly 11 years in recovery by the grace of god. In Texas. You’re good at expressing yourself and your kind of background and empathy is sorely needed in the legal world. After getting your lcdc and working a few years, you should definitely think about law school. I know several ppl in recovery who became lawyers laters in life. Congrats on your life thus far, wishing you continued success ✨

      Could I go to law school even though I have a felony possession on my record? That’s an interesting idea.

    As a mother in recover this really resonates with me. She is so right when she said the loss of a child is the only pain drugs can’t take away. I got clean while I was pregnant and relapsed for a few months when he was 1 and when my parents took him away which I’m glad they did now after a week of getting high and now being with my son I cried all the time I felt like I was in a constant panic attack that would never let up. I couldn’t take it I went to detox and rehab for 3 months and when I saw the smile on my sons face when we reunited I knew I was done for good and I have been clean for 3 years now and never been happier.

    I was a crackhead for 7 years, did meth a few times. Started with my sister, who'd been smoking for 3-4 years. In 2006, I got clean in a cheap motel in Lewisville, Texas. I cried and prayed to God for about 1.5 days, and I haven't touched crack since. I became an alcoholic. For 14 years. I'm still recovering. In 2007, I lost my sister to a massive crack induced heart attack. She was 34, with 4 kids. Nobody but God, us, a few close friends, and our dealers knew. NOBODY. We were "high functioning" crack heads. I miss my sister, she tried to kick. RIP, Andrea Dawn Roycroft, 1972-2007.

      I’m so sorry about the loss of your sister. I cannot imagine how devastating her loss is for you, her children and your family. And that’s incredible that you got off crack and stayed off- that’s really something to treasure! Your story resonates with me a lot. I started out an alcoholic, and relapsed repeatedly over the years, but was teased a lot in rehab for being “just an alcoholic,” with people saying I didn’t know what “real addiction was like.” When I stopped drinking, I ended up relapsing again, but on opiates, eventually finding out about fentanyl, and finally found recovery in July 2017. I had a son die in 2006, and I just didn’t handle that well at all. When I went to treatment in 2017, I finally started acknowledging all of this grief and sadness I had with him, and turned to God completely for help, and my life completely turned around. As I’m sure you’re very familiar with, grief can be so crippling when it’s associated with someone you love so much and getting through it can be very difficult at first! Thanks for sharing!

    • @jbaxa3
      @jbaxa3 Год назад

      @@TexasPictures looking forward to those series! The attention you bring to this issue is so vital! I’m in Arizona and am always telling people about this channel, as I’m quite passionate about this issue and its impact, especially on young people. I lost a son when he was six weeks old, and his death was the most difficult event of my life. However, with fentanyl, these parents and families are blindsided by a poison that takes their child after they did their best to raise them right. Oftentimes, their child didn’t know what they were taking, and for many, it was their first time to use any substance at all. I cannot comprehend the profound grief and devastation they feel. I’m glad you’re doing a series with law enforcement and EMTs too- I’ve always supported law enforcement, and when I hear the parents talk about their disappointment and sadness with dealers not being held accountable, I feel frustrated also and wonder what the reason might be for this. Anyway, sorry for the long comment; I wanted to let you know your work is much appreciated by many, which I assume you’ve already been told many, many times before!Thank you!!
