  • Inspired by the beauty of white birch forests from new Evolution 9
SLGA009 captures the quiet mood of the white birch tree forests near the studio in Shinshu, where all Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches are crafted. To look closely at the dial is to experience the exact same feeling that the visitor to these forests receives and to be brought closer than ever to the true and eternal nature of time.
The overall look of the watch is known as the Evolution 9 Style and it will be an important part of the Grand Seiko’s signature in the years to come. Its powerful hands and grooved, prominent markers ensure perfect legibility, its Zaratsu polished, distortion-free mirror finish, and delicate hairline finish alternate give the case a quiet and harmonious glow. The case has wide lugs and a low center of gravity that ensures that the watch sits easily and securely on the wrist.
The Spring Drive watch carries the latest Caliber 9RA2 which offers a 120-hour power reserve and an enhanced precision rate of ±0.5 seconds per day.
In 2020, Grand Seiko introduced a new design philosophy called the Evolution 9 Style. It was based, of course, on the Grand Seiko Style, which has always defined the design of all Grand Seiko watches and continues to do so. The Evolution 9 Style preserves the fundamentals of the Grand Seiko Style but adapts them for a new generation by setting new standards of legibility, ease of use, and beauty.
Spring Drive 5 Days, Caliber 9RA2
SLGA009 is powered by the Grand Seiko Spring Drive 5 Days Caliber 9RA2. The movement is equipped with an "Offset Magic Lever" to reduce its thickness and incorporates two barrels to provide up to 120 hours of power reserve. The beauty of the movement reveals the uniquely Japanese aesthetic for which Grand Seiko is renowned. The delicate texture of the movement's finish reflects the frost that winter brings to the forests in Shinshu where all Spring Drive watches are made. The bridge line and the edges of the screw holes are diamond cut to reflect the light from any angle and give the movement a quiet glow when seen through the sapphire case back.

We LOVE the SLGA009! Now we have two "White Birch" - which one do you prefer? SLGA009 or SLGH005? Let´s talk!

Well which do you prefer having them in hand? I have the SLGH005, but the texture on SLGA009 seems much more elegant.

009 hands down! Spring Drive and seemingly a whiter dial. The 005 is very monotone, this appears to have more contrast. My buddy just picked his up today and loves it!

Personally, I think I prefer SLGA009 I agree with you on the elegance part, and it´s a bit brighter. Both are stunning tho!

I think I prefer the stronger texture and more silvery dial of the hi-beat, also the shorter and more recessed crown of the hi-beat looked better, so did the engraved rotor of the hi-beat that reminds me of an A. Lange. An improvement on the spring drive dial is the slightly wider date window and the lack of the small painted hour mark next to the date window as on the hi-beat.

Much prefer this over the SLGH005 for both the movement and aesthetics. The 005 is an absotkurlt gorgeous watch but actually too busy with the deep silver etching to be an every day watch for me and it causes legibly issues. Whereas the newer white birch SLGA009 is really easy to read and while the dial is more subtle it still has awesome detail. And spring drive, oh spring drive!

Has someone compared white birch with this one in the metal side by side? The dial of the SLGA009 looks way more legible but hard to say with studio artifical lights which makes everything look great.

      Hi!
Yes, the SLGA009 is more legible. SLGH005 is a bit darker and contrasty, so on legibility SLGA009 wins hands down

Why isn't the GS logo on the clasp not gold plated? Thought they're doing that for all 5 day SD.

Good question, but I don´t know if all the 5 day SD are gold. Would be cool tho

A gold GS logo seems to stick to only a limited model in Grand Seik.

Yeah, they only do that for limited edition Grand Seiko's like the SLGA007 (Lake Suwa) with 5-day spring drive.

@@opturanordic2376 well I own it for one, and also feel that the hi-beat movement that drives it is a significant leap in the advancement of GS technology. Understanding how the hi-beat movement works with dial escapement is a marvel.
With that being said, I own a Spring Drive watch and am equally amazed at how accurate it is…..the SD movement does have its haters but watching the hand sweep is at times hypnotic.

    Like for video!
    I like these three GS:
-SLGH005 White Birch (WB high-beat) - not limited,
-SLGA007 Lake Suwa (LS spring drive) - limited edition,
-SLGA009 White Birch (WB spring drive) - not limited.
But it is the first time, when I do not understand the GS company watch dials names and company price policy!
    1) I think that WB spring drive dial is not so beautiful and hard in production like WB high-beat dial. If dials are not the same, why GS gived them the same names?
    2) Official company retail:
    -not limited WB high-beat - 1,045,000¥
-limited edition LS spring drive - 990,000¥
-not limited WB spring drive - 1,045,000¥
Why WB spring drive is more expensive than the limited edition LS spring drive??? Why WB spring drive is not cheaper than the WB high-beat with a beautiful dial?
