    If you put Press and Seal handiwrap on the back of your rug, the sharp little tines on your gripper won't pull your yarn out when you take your rug off the stretcher.

    Susie, I really enjoyed your video - I just started a very simple latch hooking project but your type of rug hooking is next on my list - absolutely fab, well done - thanks so much.

    Great video my Mum used to measure her fabrics and yarns the way you did arms length to the nose she was a brilliant seamstress and knitter and she made these rugs years ago when I was a little girl

      I too learned to measure the same way.
      The measurement from nose to the end of fingers is approx 1 yard

    Aside from needle felting, is there any other way to secure each loop? Is there a way to lock or knot the loops? It just seems like a lot of work for something that could come undone if a loop gets snagged on a pet's claw or the heel of a shoe, or something.

    I am overrun with leftover yarn from other projects. It's 4ply acrylic yarn. Can I use it to make a rug/seat pad?

    I'm a new hooker and I love the idea of using yarn instead of wool.............I went on the Halycon website and looked at the floor frame they sell for $69.00...........................I did buy a lap frame but since I want to start doing larger pieces I love the idea of being able to see and work on the whole rug without having to remove it from the frame to work on different areas. What do you think about the standing frame?

    Hi kandcscott1, Susie is predominantly using a "Super Bulky" weight wool (in this case, Halcyon Yarn Rug Wool, link is in the full description for this video, above). Thanks for the question! Amos

  • @halcyonyarn

    Hi kandcscott1, I'll ask Susie what specific hook she used here, but, she's using "primitive" hooks for this work. If you view the full description for this video, there is a link to rug hooking supplies, including "primitive" hooks. Thanks! Amos

    This is great. I have been looking for directions on how to hook with yarn, specifically. I do have a question, though. What guage of yarn did you use for the majority of your project? And do you need to use linen or can you use monk cloth? On that note, I am off to look for your book on Amazon. Thank you again.

    Also, I am anxious to do this. Decades ago I used to do one latch hook kit after another until I was sure my husband would have me on the wall. Always wanted "A Real One" for the floor. But I found stores no longer carried the real 100% cotton Rug Yarn that I thought was the only thing strong/durable enough for foot traffic. I just didn't know. So, at the risk of ignorance, do you simply unravel used wool clothing?

      @halcyonyarn  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the question! It's three ply, it's the Halcyon Yarn Rug Wool, and you can get either "strands", which are a great way to get a lot of colors, or "skeins", they're available here: halcyonyarn.com/yarn/001/halcyon-yarn-rug-wool
      Rug hooking with yarn is super fun - best of luck and let us know how it goes!

      Hi! Susie uses the Linen, looks like the bleached (they work exactly the same, so if you like the unbleached, they're functionally identical). Here is the link: halcyonyarn.com/rug-making/68540020/bleached-linen-rug-backing--60 Cheers!

    • @halcyonyarn
      @halcyonyarn  10 лет назад +2

      You can use many other yarns, indeed Susie even uses lightly spun fiber in this particular work. The appeal of the wool yarn used here is that it is made with rug weaving (and hooking) in mind so is quite durable and will stand up to prolonged use.

    This question is for Susie, not the store. When you drew the boat you drew in each board, yet you made no color distinction with the yarn to show the reality in the artwork. Such as a deeper red as shadow or plugs... Am I seeing too much?. I'm just curious why you saw it in the drawing enough to spell it out but not to finalize it. I loved the video. Not too much ummm. That's intelligent thinking.
