Already March 3rd I met Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, at the HQ in Schaffhausen. WatchAdvisor stays old-school or analog if you want to call it that way. It is Chris who will present you the novelties. Listen to him and discover the pilots watches through the pictures we deliver to your screens...
The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch 43 (Ref. IW3293). An authentic interpretation of the iconic design, without either a date window or a power reserve display, it features a 43-millimetre stainless steel case for enhanced ergonomics and wearability. Powering the Big Pilot’s Watch 43 is the IWC-manufactured 82100 calibre. The automatic movement has been engineered with a focus on maximum precision and reliability. It features the highly efficient automatic winding system developed by Albert Pellaton, which uses the rotor’s smallest movements in either direction to wind the mainspring. Components like the automatic wheel or the pawls that mesh with it are made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. The manufacturing of such small ceramic parts presents a huge engineering challenge. When fully wound, the mainspring stores 60 hours of power. The movement has been elaborately decorated with circular graining and can be observed through a sapphire glass back. The new quick-change strap system has been developed with a focus on user-friendliness. It enables the wearer to quickly and easily change the strap and adapt the watch swiftly to different surroundings or activities. You can find a wide range of accesories, such as calfskin and rubber straps in attractive colours, as well as a new stainless steel bracelet with a fine adjustment clasp system for improved comfort and ergonomics at IWC boutiques or online at IWC.com. A reworked case construction also ensures the watch is now water-resistant to 10 bar. With this level of versatility, the Big Pilot’s Watch 43 is the perfect companion for just about any activity or setting.

IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41. “Building on the success of our Spitfire chronographs from 2019, we are now introducing the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 into our classic collection. Thanks to the quick-change system and a choice of straps, the chronographs can be adapted swiftly to different surroundings. Combined with the now 10 bar water-resistant case, this versatility makes them perfect companions for adventures in the air, on the ground or by the water. To underline our ongoing commitment to innovation and technical excellence, we also fitted the new model with our in-house 69385 calibre chronograph movement, which is visible through a sapphire glass back,” told me Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.

With the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar (Ref. IW503605), the legendary complication marks its return to the classic collection. The timepiece features a stainless steel case, a blue dial and rhodium-plated hands. The date display and power reserve are located at 3 o’clock, the month display at 6 o’clock. The weekday display and the small seconds share the subdial at 9 o’clock. The double moon phase display at 12 o’clock correctly depicts the moon phase for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and only needs to be adjusted by one day after 577.5 years.

The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Edition “Mojave Desert” (Ref. IW506003) is the first Big Pilot’s Watch to be made in sand-coloured ceramic. Inside the 46-millimetre case, the IWC-manufactured 52110 calibre with Pellaton winding, two barrels and a seven-day power reserve is at work. A soft-iron inner cage effectively shields the movement from the effects of magnetic fields. The legendary TOP GUN logo is engraved on the titanium case back. This model will be limited to just 250 pieces per year.

Quite possibly the best CEO presenter from any watch company. Well done Chris and Alexander.
So happy to see the 41mm chronograph and the 43mm big pilot finally people with smaller wrists can enjoy these watches 👏🏽
Excellent work and interview as always Alex. I just added a blue IWC Pilot Chrono 41 yesterday and it's a terrific watch. In addition to the easy change system and micro adjust clasp, their proprietary link removal system is absolutely terrific. No more screw drivers or strap tools needed! I had the bracelet shortened in five minutes. Great innovation by the IWC engineers!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and passion with us! May your IWC always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
This is for you Alexander, just met Chris in Dubai boutique and I cannot emphasize on how humble he was. Luckily I was wearing my SFTI and he commented on it.
I did mention that I saw him before on RUclips through watch advisor and he immediately said “Ah Alexander, amazing man”.
Now I love the brand ever more. 😂👌
Chris is a cool guy!!! That’s such a friendly and nice comment, thanks for sharing! Love it!
Looking forward to purchasing a 43 mm big pilot and getting all three band options. The CEO is extremely bright and passionate. 43 is such a great size, thank you 🙏
Thanks for sharing, Chris will like your comment 😉
Great interview Alex, I love the new smaller "Big Pilot". As the man says it's ergonomically attractive to more folks. Also, the quick change straps, new calibres with the use of silicon components and the green dials make the pilot's watches very attractive. Chris also seems like a very affable, tuned in kind of CEO.
Great job by you, thanks much for your work.
Thank you very much for the kind feedback! That new "Big Pilot" was overdue... like that much more convenient size a lot... also suitable for woman now... that interchangeability of straps and bracelets is breathtaking...
Great coverage as always. Looks like I'll spend the next days watching WatchAdvisor vids.
Good moves from IWC, would love to buy the new 43mm to complement my 39mm bronze Spitfire. Love this episode, cheers.
Really nice from IWC!!! Have listened and learned from its customers. They've made changes which improve the customer experience. Thanks IWC
they will love your comment! thanks for sharing!
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks for your content, have watched Watches and Wonders all day.... I think IWC and that incredible 4 face JLC Reverso have so far stollen the show!!!
Finally!!! Yes IWC YES!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 take my money!!
Chapeau Alexander! The most detailed introduction to Novelty watches Ive seen anywhere. If this will be the deep dive into each brand, the effort is truly amazing!
Thank you! I won't be able to see every one in the next days, but with the brands I do expect nothing less than this... There is more to come later of course...
Very nicely conceived and executed pieces from iwc.
The only critic I want to utter is about the polished links on the bracelets. I would like to have a fully brushed option please. Well done iwc, well done Alex!
IWC will read your comment for sure... they are very much interested in direct, unfiltered feedback... Thanks for sharing!
Nice looking green. 3 in 1 watch, very appealing.
I love the quick change aspect of the bracelets and straps. Hopefully, more brands will jump on that bandwagon.
This will be a must very soon!
@@WatchAdvisor Agreed.
I don't love the quick change system from Zenith, Hublot, IWC ...
They basically assume that you buy tha strap from the manufacturer. You can get a handmade high quality leather strap for a lot less money compared with IWC's Santoni straps.
It's so strange how company insiders and decision makers see things (i.e. priorities) so differently from someone like me. I was counting on an updated IWC Aquatimer and Mark XVIII with 32110 caliber. But looking at their releases now I totally get what they are doing. Love the new stuff, I think both the 41 chrono and the 43 BP are a knockout. Really, they are fantastic.
The Portugieser and the Pilot's watches are the two bestsellers of the brand... In weird and difficult times you don't make any experiments, you focus on your strengths ...
@@WatchAdvisor Exactly!
really nice new releases, love the easy strap change system. Excellent case sizes and lug widths, very good.
Brilliant show thank you very much I really appreciated
Love your comment! thank you!
Brilliant to be able to offer live interviews again - well done, Alexander (and Christoph). Unfortunately, IWC are falling off my radar due to sizing, co-branding and pricing. A lot will ride on the next generation Mark XX, which must return to it's non-flieger roots and design.
Great video!
Saw Chris on instagram and had to look it up immediately ;) Can finally get one, 46 was too big, even for a 6.2 guy
Very positive conversation, live conversation! this is really important.
Thanks! Love your comment!
Beautiful product, the new 43mm big pilot with the blue dial. Big, big applause to the niftiest of tricks
with the bracelet, the micro adjustable clasp. It’s a detail, but one that makes the deal where others
break the deal and could lead to some sell a watch because of big discomfort. it’s is essential.
I couldn't agree more! ;-)
I am Japanese. I want a big pilot 43mm model. I'm really looking forward to the release in Japan!
Maybe I missed it, but is a black strap also available (purchased separately from the watch) for the Big Pilot 43?
it should... also more colours are to come...
IWC great move into versatility with the Big Pilot 43 - hopefully all other models will be included in the new easy bracelet and strap exchange, this will increase business especially with women for 40 mm sizes
The watch must be changed... a different type of spring bar is all you need and you may attach the new straps/bracelets once they match the length in between the lugs...
@@WatchAdvisor Danke für die Info, das habe ich mir gedacht, dass wäre ein strap business für bisherige modelle - würden viele Kunden sicherlich mitgehen
43mm pilot is fantastic! Steel bracelet looks like "Lange Odysseus" from inside.... now i have dillema blue dial or black lol
Try them on your wrist and let your heart decide...
My absolute favorite timepiece company
Which is your favorite IWC watch/collection?
Spitfire model, chrono petit prince and also mark 18, pure beauties
IWC designers kept busy during the lockdown. The big pilot 43 is a great way to broaden the appeal of their most iconic models.
Try it asap on your wrist... you will like it...
@@WatchAdvisor ordered one. They’re not in yet. The boutiques might have mark ups.. going tomorrow. The lume on it is like the PP timezoner..every Arabic is lumed.
Anyone know what the IWC CEO is wearing on his wrist. I quite like the all black look of that watch, albeit from a quick glance
I believe it was this one ... www.iwc.com/ch/en/watch-collections/pilot-watches/iw371815-pilot_s-watch-double-chronograph-top-gun-ceratanium.html
@@WatchAdvisor thanks! I absolutely love this watch. its made its way onto my wish list
Really... love it I Will buy green one awesome
Green one looks amazing. Agree
Green will be the next hyped color... 😉
I like what I see. I like what I hear.
👍🏼
I have one critic for the CEO, ı tried to reach their procurement department regarding to the Bronze alloys they use on their watches. The reason behind my approach is we are casting bronze alloys which wont change colours with time, but their procurement was not interested and closed the phone. I asked him we can send free of charge sample for tests. Bealive me i wont earn money for this probably 5 tons of bronze castings wont effect my company but i want it to improve the watch world. Only Oris interested in. anyways thats the story i have. They need to be open minded.
Thanks Chris, Thanks Alex. Absolutely love the 43mm Big Pilot... Any plans for a fully lumed white dial/black arabics and hands? Very informative presentation and much easier to watch without the gobbly, gobbly, aah, aah!
WatchAdvisor is „gobble, gobble, aah, aahh“-free! We are unbiased and we deliver content… the watches are always the stars ⭐️… By the way, we are working on a video showing the new 43 mm versus the old 46 mm Big Pilot’s watch … will go online in a week or so …
WatchAdvisor I was only pulling your leg, Alex! However, you didn't reply to my question about the possibility of a white lumed face...
@@SJCB27 No idea! But I don’t think IWC will ever do that…
please do a video on the 43, i want one so bad lol
Will try to organise one after I come home ...
Now, after seeing the green chronograph, I'm thinking: Oof! What do I like better? Blue or Green? I will have to check my local AD to see what they can get.
The best you can do anyhow is to try them on your wrist ... only then you will know if IWC or Zenith ...
The Big Pilot in 43mm look lovely, however it’s still too big for me 16cm wrist. I hope they make a similar no date version with that nice bracelet in a small size like 39-40mm in the future.
Stowa?
@@knowyourhistory They don’t have a nice bracelet with a quick adjustment clasp and a in house movement with 60hrs power reserve. However they are nice watches for the price category they serve.
Hoping to see some of these upgrades (particularly decent lume) on the next BP.
Chris is step by step making IWC better and better.... 😉
@@WatchAdvisor Some solid stuff here alright. It’s one thing I’ve never understood about IWC though; how a flieger (which is supposed to be all about legibility) has such minimal lume applications.
@@patrickdaly5988 Give Chris some more time... he knows what the brands needs... including a new REAL “Ingenieur” 😉
The chronograph is unacceptably thick, especially for this price range.
Same dimensions as the Valjoux 7750 which the calibre now is replacing ... there are many reasons why it is a sit is ... one is reliability of course... internally IWC calls the calibre "the rock"
Great apresentation!!
Nice watches
How good it is to return to the new normal
Thank you! May I ask ... which new model is your favorite?
@@WatchAdvisor
I like complications
My choice would be PILOT’S WATCH PERPETUAL CALENDAR
Tks
beautiful
Which novelty did you like the most?
@@WatchAdvisor IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 blue
Its too bad the lug to lug distance on the 41 chronograph is the same as on the 43 mm big pilot 😾 wish they reduced tgat do it could really be fit for small wrists
You need to try the watch on your wrist to see if it fits or not...
Hopefully IWC will also soon update the Mark XVIII line with a inhouse movement. It would be the next logical step
Yes
Do you think it will happen this year? Will we see more from Watches and Wonders and IWC?
IWC will get rid of all external calibres step by step and only use in-house calibres very soon...
@@WatchAdvisor that’s also what my AD told a few months ago. It’s the only reason why i didn’t buy the Mark XVIII Le Petit Prince yet. Can’t wait for the update and thanks for also confirming this!
The Big Pilot is a nice watch. I do think it's (how shall I say?) "interesting" that they talk about their heritage in terms of the civilian aviation watches they made in the 1930s, and the military watches they made for the British RAF in the 1950s. But the closest design origin of the Big Pilot watch is kind of coyly airbrushed out... Let's be honest here: IWC made a B-Uhr for the German Luftwaffe during WW2. Own it guys! This is history. (Anyway, the watch wasn't to blame for anything. Watches don't do politics!)
Love your comment! But you know how quickly things are made up and emphasised... Low key is better in this case...
What is the wrist size?
Mine is 17 cm ....
👏👏👏
Thank you!
amazing watch! it's my dream, but i prefer 46mm
if you have the size of wrist the 46 mm ist the one to have...
@@WatchAdvisor Hi Alexander! it is a pleasure to read your answer. in a few years working hard I will buy this watch!🤑🤑🤑
IWC easily could be a better watch company than what it is today. They just need to up their finesse, more in-house movements, stay as much as possible below the 42mm mark and do better marketing campaigns.
Almost the entire collection has in-house calibres meanwhile, staying below 42 mm is difficult when you sell the kind of watches IWC successfully does for decades now... What would you change with marketing campaigns?
@@WatchAdvisor I think they need to explicitly address the lifestyles associated with their watches in their marketing campaigns. For example, look at how Patek Philippe does it. They deliberately try to paint a picture of what it means to be a Patek watch owner. They incorporate a lot of memories, emotions and romance in their marketing. IWC also has a story to tell and I think putting more emphasis on that would embolden their market presence. I think this is also applicable to Large as I believe they are substantially a lot better than how they are being marketed (I actually think they are miles ahead of Patek in terms of watchmaking but don’t tell the Sterns 🤫)
Pleased to see the BP 43 but very disappointed it has lost its full anti magnetic features
Starting in 2024, after the international patents on the silicon hairspring will end in 2023, IWC will make a huge step in direction of protection against magnetic fields...
10:42 Blue is beautiful...but green...that's another league
Green is getting more and more popular... TRUE!
3:37. “The Pretty Big Pilot”
The watch is called Big Pilot 😜
I wonder what John Meyer will think.
Who is the guy and what should he think?
@@WatchAdvisor Spelled Correctly John Mayer ,an American Musician known for being a hugh IWC Big Pilot collector who a number of years ago wrote an open letter to I W C critiquing the line.
Toy for big boys, all nice !!!!!!! Except the steel bracelet
43mm is way too big for a 3 hand watch, the 41mm chronograph is nice.
It is the small "Big Pilot"... the original measures 46 mm ...
@@WatchAdvisor not really small at 43mm, 40mm should have been max for this style of watch, Longines spirit is a good example of what size a pilots watch should be.
IWC has cultivated its huge watches... that's part of the brands DNA
da gefällt mir nicht eine 🤣
Und? Geschmäcker sind nun mal verschieden…
