    Already March 3rd I met Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen, at the HQ in Schaffhausen. WatchAdvisor stays old-school or analog if you want to call it that way. It is Chris who will present you the novelties. Listen to him and discover the pilots watches through the pictures we deliver to your screens...
    The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch 43 (Ref. IW3293). An authentic interpretation of the iconic design, without either a date window or a power reserve display, it features a 43-millimetre stainless steel case for enhanced ergonomics and wearability. Powering the Big Pilot’s Watch 43 is the IWC-manufactured 82100 calibre. The automatic movement has been engineered with a focus on maximum precision and reliability. It features the highly efficient automatic winding system developed by Albert Pellaton, which uses the rotor’s smallest movements in either direction to wind the mainspring. Components like the automatic wheel or the pawls that mesh with it are made of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. The manufacturing of such small ceramic parts presents a huge engineering challenge. When fully wound, the mainspring stores 60 hours of power. The movement has been elaborately decorated with circular graining and can be observed through a sapphire glass back. The new quick-change strap system has been developed with a focus on user-friendliness. It enables the wearer to quickly and easily change the strap and adapt the watch swiftly to different surroundings or activities. You can find a wide range of accesories, such as calfskin and rubber straps in attractive colours, as well as a new stainless steel bracelet with a fine adjustment clasp system for improved comfort and ergonomics at IWC boutiques or online at IWC.com. A reworked case construction also ensures the watch is now water-resistant to 10 bar. With this level of versatility, the Big Pilot’s Watch 43 is the perfect companion for just about any activity or setting.

    IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41. “Building on the success of our Spitfire chronographs from 2019, we are now introducing the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 into our classic collection. Thanks to the quick-change system and a choice of straps, the chronographs can be adapted swiftly to different surroundings. Combined with the now 10 bar water-resistant case, this versatility makes them perfect companions for adventures in the air, on the ground or by the water. To underline our ongoing commitment to innovation and technical excellence, we also fitted the new model with our in-house 69385 calibre chronograph movement, which is visible through a sapphire glass back,” told me Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.

    With the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar (Ref. IW503605), the legendary complication marks its return to the classic collection. The timepiece features a stainless steel case, a blue dial and rhodium-plated hands. The date display and power reserve are located at 3 o’clock, the month display at 6 o’clock. The weekday display and the small seconds share the subdial at 9 o’clock. The double moon phase display at 12 o’clock correctly depicts the moon phase for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and only needs to be adjusted by one day after 577.5 years.

    The IWC Big Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Edition “Mojave Desert” (Ref. IW506003) is the first Big Pilot’s Watch to be made in sand-coloured ceramic. Inside the 46-millimetre case, the IWC-manufactured 52110 calibre with Pellaton winding, two barrels and a seven-day power reserve is at work. A soft-iron inner cage effectively shields the movement from the effects of magnetic fields. The legendary TOP GUN logo is engraved on the titanium case back. Excellent work and interview as always Alex. I just added a blue IWC Pilot Chrono 41 yesterday and it's a terrific watch. In addition to the easy change system and micro adjust clasp, their proprietary link removal system is absolutely terrific. No more screw drivers or strap tools needed! I had the bracelet shortened in five minutes. Great innovation by the IWC engineers!

    Great interview Alex, I love the new smaller "Big Pilot". As the man says it's ergonomically attractive to more folks. Also, the quick change straps, new calibres with the use of silicon components and the green dials make the pilot's watches very attractive. Chris also seems like a very affable, tuned in kind of CEO.

The reason behind my approach is we are casting bronze alloys which wont change colours with time, but their procurement was not interested and closed the phone. I asked him we can send free of charge sample for tests. Bealive me i wont earn money for this probably 5 tons of bronze castings wont effect my company but i want it to improve the watch world. Only Oris interested in. anyways thats the story i have. They need to be open minded.

    The Big Pilot is a nice watch. I do think it's (how shall I say?) "interesting" that they talk about their heritage in terms of the civilian aviation watches they made in the 1930s, and the military watches they made for the British RAF in the 1950s. But the closest design origin of the Big Pilot watch is kind of coyly airbrushed out... Let's be honest here: IWC made a B-Uhr for the German Luftwaffe during WW2. Own it guys! This is history. (Anyway, the watch wasn't to blame for anything. Watches don't do politics!)

    IWC easily could be a better watch company than what it is today. They just need to up their finesse, more in-house movements, stay as much as possible below the 42mm mark and do better marketing campaigns.

    • @WatchAdvisor
      @WatchAdvisor  3 года назад

      Almost the entire collection has in-house calibres meanwhile, staying below 42 mm is difficult when you sell the kind of watches IWC successfully does for decades now... What would you change with marketing campaigns?

    • @111ImNumber1
      @111ImNumber1 3 года назад +1

      @@WatchAdvisor I think they need to explicitly address the lifestyles associated with their watches in their marketing campaigns. For example, look at how Patek Philippe does it. They deliberately try to paint a picture of what it means to be a Patek watch owner. They incorporate a lot of memories, emotions and romance in their marketing. IWC also has a story to tell and I think putting more emphasis on that would embolden their market presence. I think this is also applicable to Large as I believe they are substantially a lot better than how they are being marketed (I actually think they are miles ahead of Patek in terms of watchmaking but don’t tell the Sterns 🤫)
