Another category for grunge wall decor is actually one the smartest things I've heard that I don't see mentioned often. It would be nice to see posters separated too
I also love the general Sims logic in that roofs and whatever else that people usually pay a lot of money for are totally free, but scuff marks and water strains and peeling plaster that people usually irl pay a lot of money to *not* have... that costs you money. I mean of course. 🙃

Wow I almost just cried when I saw 'Lola Lily's Sala' lol. Lola means grandma in Tagalog (Filipino), sala means living room, so basically grandma's living room. My Lola unfortunately passed away a year ago, and I miss her and her home back in the Philippines so much. I grew up around a lot of the items in this pack, and it just made me smile with how much nostalgia it brought to me 😊
I feel the whole build/buy categories need an update. Example: If I'm looking for a small plant to place on a table, I'm having to cycle through a pretty much all the plants (I have every pack except wedding and kits so a lot of plants) to see which ones fit on the table. It would be nice if in the plant section there was a category for floor plants, table plants, and wall plants. I think the one that needs the most help is the kids category. Newborns, infants, toddlers, and children are ALL clumped into one. It would be nice if they was more separation so I don't feel like I am lost in the menu.
I would love to see a filter for skills! Like, just a category under the pack filter section or something where you can filter through acting, handiness, etc, so you don’t have to look at every activity item to find the skill and interest you’re looking for.
I can never figure out how they decide which things go in which category. Normally, I'm very good at this, but I actually resort to the search bar now.

Also the heaters and the electricity box have more colours than the mail boxes which is insane to me because you normally hide them somewhere and the mail boxes are more visible

I'm SEAsian and it's wild how familiar all these designs (build and furniture) are to my real life and surrounding, and I'm honestly quite moved to finally be able to build homes around me, like my grandparents' homes. Representation is so important.
Pretty sure the “soothe” effect of the shrine thingy you leave fruit/incense at is a grief/sadness thing! We have similar traditions here in Japan using Buddhist altars in homes, you show pictures of the deceased and light incense for them, and leave food gifts on special holidays. Sort of like visiting graves and leaving flowers etc!
I'm very excited and touched to see my country get representation in the Sims 4 pack inspired by the SEA part of the world. SEA countries can have very distinctive features from each other while also sharing many elements. I can see that they manage to take inspiration from the common elements to the point that every SEA person can relate while also providing a distinctive look. I do feel like they heavily took inspiration from Thailand or Vietnam for the build & buy items, but the moment James showed what can be made from the pressure cooker, I instantly connected to this pack. It's Nasi Lemak!! I can make Nasi Lemak in the Sims 4!!😂😂😂😂
This is a TRULY DETAILED review. This made me appreciate the pack more as a Southeast Asian bcs I've been trying to build a traditional house since 2019 but I could never made it THAT good. I'm soooo glad this pack exists
For the most part, I've been loving this pack and seeing everything that has come with it, but the biggest thing that I was disappointed about when it comes to Build&Buy items were the mailboxes. The fact that we have limited colour swatches is valid (as James points out) but I was really excited to have a multi-mailbox for the wall that you might put in the lobby of a nicer apartment/condo building which we didn't get. I'm hoping that if you slide the big standing one into the wall a little to have it look like it's built in, that it will still work, but I was SUPER disappointed to not have an actual "wall mounted" mailbox option.
its cool because even though this is inspired by thailand/SEA there's several items that look very common to stuff i see all the time in houses in the uk! having more options to tailor to different life experiences is one of the best things abt recent sims 4 packs
(Please read matter-of-factly without resentment or grudge) Ummm, I think that's because you brought them over from the UK when, you know, you colonized our countries (SEA person here). Or brought them back 😂
@@nohandlethanx Hah, yes, I had the exact same thought. RE: Marketstalls, I kind of love them. They are an easy way to multi-function a community lot. Or even a residential. I have a mod from littlemssam that allows them to autopopulate without your sim paying for them (I always thought this was dumb as you had similiar stands in sims 2 where sims would just be working them if you placed them on a community lot). But I'll like add an expresso bar to like the first floor of a building or have the tea stand in the park or have a few just outside the apartment building and sims have a reason to congregate outside. And it's great for just making community lots less basic and less limited to the one lot designation they can have per lot.
Watching overview videos for packs I know I can’t justify buying anytime soon is always a special kind of self-inflicted torture 😝. BUT THE SINKS! I can’t believe they finally fixed how kitchen/bathroom sinks work!! Its such a simple solution I don’t understand why it took this long to happen, but I am happy we can finally prevent sims from washing their plates in the bathroom!
24:24 Things like this make me think that, despite the obvious problems with the Sims 4 the team behind it cares about this game. Someone had to design those squids and veggies. Someone thought to make every swatch different like that. There's certainly effort put in, I just wish they had more time to polish every pack.
you're right. it really makes you wonder why small things like that reflect care when major things in packs are lackluster and seem forgotton about. idk what ea is doing with their time and money or how they divide work amongst their teams, but i just wonder about the discrepancy.
I feel like there's more attention to details in this pack. The stalls were a delight and those airconds? UNNECESSARY but still delightful, homey detail.
The plastic patio chair is literally one of the selling points of the pack for me hahahaha. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the cross-pack compatibility stuff next week, especially with regards to the pressure cooker and higher cooking skills.
1. The sink update oh my god I’m so excited 2. The cabinet with the paper towels is so cute I love ittttt 3. We absolutely need a new wall decal section in bb that’s so annoying
I really do think they need to make a different category for decals or something because its really annoying when im trying to find a simple picture to hang on the wall 💀
American fun fact the reason why electric kettles aren’t all that common here is outlets in the US are 120v standard and only use 240v for big appliances like stoves. While many places use 240v as the standard. Boiling water in a 120v electric kettle is not much faster than using a stovetop one while 240v kettles boil water much faster making them far more practical. I only use an electric kettle because its clear glass and the stovetop glass ones were expensive lol
44:32 they’re more common than you think. My parents got me and my sister each one when we first went to college/uni to have in our dorms. My mom liked it so much that she got a nice stainless steel one for their kitchen (she drinks a lot of tea)
That fake security door for some reason is giving me closed up mall shop vibes 👀The decor looks amazing and I will find much use for alot of it! It will still forever irk me tho that we can see gorgeous decor boats but not get a functional one, or seeing moving tuk tuks on the road, but we can't have functional ones😭
Hey, James, I know this is with Early Access but once the pack is out I think you should try the Build Challenge where you have to randomize for and combine a bunch of Pre-Made Rooms into a semi-cohesive build. You can have full control over any hallways (in case you need a stairway or some method of properly connecting things) and swap out or move around doors and windows to line things up but you're basically stuck with whatever rooms you get and the different swatches each item has. It'd be especially funny with just EA Rooms but could be interesting leaving in any Rooms you've build and saved to your Library or Gallery over the years. And for the outside, other than outside rooms, you can do whatever you want! I don't remember who started it but I've seen a few people do this (namely Vixella, I think.) I just thought it'd be especially interesting to see what you get with all the Packs available so far and getting at least one of the new For Rent rooms would be fun but if that doesn't happen maybe just make the outside Tomorang lol. Alternatively it might be interesting to see you go back to another one of your old challenges and redo it or turn those into apartments! (Also thank you for being really in-depth and honest about the items here.)
With this pack you could do a “rags to restoration” series where the house is old and grungy and you “restore” as you progress by changing it to the clean version
I'm amazed by the detailed 3D models and great textures! James did mention the missed opportunities and I agree with him 100% The new kitchen cabinets and counters are AMAZING! The details and the matching colours and the fact that there are upper cabinets make this my new favourite kitchen set. The new appliances with base game swatch update is so nice but the minute I saw the tandoor I assumed it would work. Missed opportunity. It's okay, the kitchen stuff is going to improve gameplay so much. The debug plants are lovely and I don't know why there aren't new outdoor plants included but I'll be using debug a lot. There's so much going on with this pack that I can't absorb it all. I can't wait to play with this pack even though I've already made a few lots specifically for rentals. Using new objects is going to be so much fun! I'm so impressed by the quality of artwork on newer DLC that I wish they'd update some of the older stuff. Our base game items don't compare to this gorgeous pack!!! I'm going to cancel all my appointments after Dec 3 so that I can play and build for the next forever. LOL
I think he may have been more talking about electric kettles, but I may be wrong. In contrast, I'm in the states and we have an electric kettle we use all the time. In fact, we found we were using our stove kettle so much it made sense to just get an electric one.
James I never think you are selling me the pack because I always listen to multiple opinions anyway on as many sides as I can find. The multi-rental flexible feature sold me, at this point I am just info gathering about what is in the pack. Your content is mostly neutrally informative on my purchase.
I work for an events coordinator in the US, we do festivals and the 4th of July and stuff in the summer and the tents over those vendor tables are 100% legit looking. A basic awning over a fold-out table and a bunch of random junk, that's how everybody sets their tents up.
The Sims' design team truly nailed it on this pack, like they got it, I can find any of these on the traditional and modern houses here in SEA, the details on the carvings, the colors, the the pattern it's all so so good, I'm so happy that this pack exists 🥹 Thank you so much, James, for this detailed review ❤️ I really can't wait to see your new LP! 😆
so excited for this pack and i love your videos!! i feel like property owning could end up a thing in more rags to riches to come as they end up with a surplus of money, or even just renting a room out in their house for money when they're down on funds!
As someone from SEA. This pack is really exciting! Because seeing familiar windows, floors and so many traditional things that i can see in my hometown home, really made me miss my hometown 😂❤
I really wish there was a filter option for prices! I want to have lowest to highest😢 The catalog doesn’t have everything in price order, such as the beds, and I find it really annoying
I don't know if there's any other fans of the Manifest show that's been on Netflix recently, but the peacock tapestry and "it's all connected!" quote got me lol Nice little easter egg!
I feel like this pack would be perfect to update your encanto house build!! So many of the windows and doors etc match the vibe so much better than what you had available to use at the time. Love the video, thank you as always James!
Ok, about the first door that’s not really a door. It’s actually very significant to the SEA community, especially in Thailand. You can see this type of door EVERYWHERE, especially in townhouses. And honestly, most of the time these doors stay closed or just partially opened, unless that townhouse is a shop then it’s fully opened. However, I wish that the door would have a partially opened version(that’s the same size and not the other partially opened version which is smaller)to represent SEA’s real way of living and to also be functional.
We also have one, but I feel like it's overkill if I want less than half a liter of boiling water. And I don't get up early enough to make two cups of tea, wait for the greater mass of water to cool to a drinkable temperature, and finish it all off before leaving for work. The microwave is just as fast for a smaller quantity of water, so I don't really see what problem people have with it.
The market stalls and hanging lanterns too. I mean, the festivals in Snowy Escape already made my Japan missing heart happy, but there's even more to make it look even more realistic now 💕
The one thing that kills me, that I really wish this pack included is being able to recieve the mail through your door, since thats pretty usual for townhouses and stuff. Hell, theres even that door from (I think) Discover University that has a mail slot, and its non functional!
Nice overview of all the items for this pack. I agree that some of the items could've used more color swatches. And the shelving could've had more slots for us to fill.
As a small biz owner who frequently sells (and shops) at street markets I am SO STOKED about the market stalls, hopscotch and Tent items!! I'm gonna end up making so many weekend craft fairs in the Sims that I'm not going to want to attend the real ones anymore lmao
Fyi for those wondering, the tiffin has so many parts to it so that you can have your rice, curry, veg and/or dessert all separately packed but with one handle, so they don't get all mixed up or mushy.
15:30 if you're on console and don't know how to rotate floor tiles if you open the control panel while having a floor tile selected it'll tell you which button to press. it's either x or y on xbox.
James, commenting on not being able to click on the windows to open the shutters asking why they have not figured it out yet... Sims 2 when I pretended my sim was moving and "packed" everything she didn't have anything to do so she was opening windows and washing windows... So they CAN and HAVE but they just don't..
When we bought our home one of the things I wanted was an electric kettle, mine is similar to the second one you showed it’s a pastel olive color and I love it! My grandma told me she asked my husband why we bought that considering the keruig makes hot water too and he said “Because it’s cute according to my wife” 😅 And I stand by it lol
Some worker at EA spent a couple of days working hard to make sure those hopscotch games had the correct animations and you've absolutely just made their week by acknowledging it in this video! ♦️
They are really upping their B&B game recently. The colours, details, everything is just so amazing. I feel like we've definitely had some lackluster packs in recent years but it seems like we're on a streak of bangers, and I'm here for it.
Whenever people are like “why another toilet” or “why another bar” (and I’m not accusing any content creator of this because a lot of times they get the packs for free and may not realize it) but when you only can afford three or four packs, it’s nice to get a new bar or activity desk or toilet! I can see how it would get saturated if you have multiple packs but it’s to give people with limited resources some fun things to add to their diversity
your showing the debug bike rack makes me wish we had new bikes in this pack. but I'm still very excited to play with For Rent when it comes out next week! thanks for another amazing review, James!
This video was not too long. I am grateful for the in depth overview of the items. Other youtubers and even the ea team go too fast and yours was great! Thank you !!
Hello James 🎉 I really love how indepth you go into the Expansion Pack, if I was new at Simming I would choose your video to determind if the pack was worth getting...keep up your awesome work ❤😊
You mentioned not a lot of people in the US having Kettles, I never understand why other places think we don’t have them. We very much do it’s a very common kitchen item. We use it for Tea, Coco, and sometimes coffee
As a South-east Asian, I looove seeing these items that are similar to the items I grew up with. Makes me appreciate it more. Those cubic/lattice tiled walls?? I used to live in an apartment with that design! Ah, the nostalgia! Might buy this pack in full price 😝
I'm not from SEA, but i am from India and soo many items remind me of the stuff we have here and im soo excited to use them!! Also look at the tiffin box omggg
@@ninadreams127It's basically a stack of tin Tupperware 😁 or Bento but for large portions. We put food in them. Whole meals even, not small meals like James said. You know how Asians usually eat rice/flat bread and have side dishes? Well one level of the tiffin can be filled with rice/roti, the others with different side dishes.
I'm absolutely in love with the build & buy of this pack. The fences - gosh I've been wanting an iron fence for SO LONG! And the beautiful tiling and the painted wall with those nice colours and texture we didn't have before... Ugh there's just so much in this. I feel like it's going to be a fantastic addition to my game - I like to create so eastern-inspired builds, and we haven't had that many options before, so... it's a must have!
All this stuff looks great and definitely feels like it could be used in a wide variety of home decor styles. All the bright color swatches remind me of Sims 3 Island Paradise hotel bungalos that you could place and upgrade in the hotel management system. It'll be cool to see hotels like that in Sulani. For Rent definitely feels like what an expansion pack should be every time one is released. Cross pack compatibility, replayability in so many different ways, impact/ spontaneity in gameplay and new mechanics to explore. This is what spending $40 should feel like. I'm looking forward to the Lets Play of this.
Another category for grunge wall decor is actually one the smartest things I've heard that I don't see mentioned often. It would be nice to see posters separated too
yeah posters and decals could stand to be their own category cuz there's just SO many of them and the few paintings kind of get washed out under them

The plastic patio chair is literally one of the selling points of the pack for me hahahaha. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the cross-pack compatibility stuff next week, especially with regards to the pressure cooker and higher cooking skills.
Wickered Whims. OMG. 🤭 EA going "we see you." Thanks for the deep dive, James. Great look at what's coming. 😁
1. The sink update oh my god I’m so excited
2. The cabinet with the paper towels is so cute I love ittttt
I wish the designers would consult players who build a lot when they’re developing a pack
The pastels really remind me of 1950's miami, that color scheme. Maybe you could make a 1950's inspired building?
I don't remember who started it but I've seen a few people do this (namely Vixella, I think.)
I just thought it'd be especially interesting to see what you get with all the Packs available so far and getting at least one of the new For Rent rooms would be fun but if that doesn't happen maybe just make the outside Tomorang lol.
I like how James can be positive and frustrated at the same time
I'm amazed by the detailed 3D models and great textures! James did mention the missed opportunities and I agree with him 100%
The new kitchen cabinets and counters are AMAZING!
LOL
I literally own that rattan living chair. I inherited it from my grandparents, and I love it!
Not me, in the Midwest US, literally waiting for the kettle on the stove to boil for me to make tea while James says we don't know what kettles are 😂
I think he may have been more talking about electric kettles, but I may be wrong. In contrast, I'm in the states and we have an electric kettle we use all the time. In fact, we found we were using our stove kettle so much it made sense to just get an electric one.
I think this is gonna fit so nice with Snowy Escape
James I never think you are selling me the pack because I always listen to multiple opinions anyway on as many sides as I can find. The multi-rental flexible feature sold me, at this point I am just info gathering about what is in the pack. Your content is mostly neutrally informative on my purchase.
I work for an events coordinator in the US, we do festivals and the 4th of July and stuff in the summer and the tents over those vendor tables are 100% legit looking. A basic awning over a fold-out table and a bunch of random junk, that's how everybody sets their tents up.
Ahhh! I just realized that my trailer park builds will work as separate units now! 🥰🥰🥰 This is exciting
The Sims' design team truly nailed it on this pack, like they got it, I can find any of these on the traditional and modern houses here in SEA, the details on the carvings, the colors, the the pattern it's all so so good, I'm so happy that this pack exists 🥹
Thank you so much, James, for this detailed review ❤️ I really can't wait to see your new LP! 😆
Thank you for such a comprehensive and detailed review, it takes a lot of time, even to just set up and your filming time on top of that.
so excited for this pack and i love your videos!! i feel like property owning could end up a thing in more rags to riches to come as they end up with a surplus of money, or even just renting a room out in their house for money when they're down on funds!
As someone from SEA. This pack is really exciting! Because seeing familiar windows, floors and so many traditional things that i can see in my hometown home, really made me miss my hometown 😂❤
Omg i started laughing at the “tranquil” set with “choose violence” barstool and couldn’t stop till the end! 😂😂😂😂
My mother had a kettle when I was a kid. I have a regular kettle and an electric one. We use kettles, James!
I really like most of the new items! Though the catalogue is in desperate need of a make-over with additional categories and prices that make sense 🙄
Ditto 🙂
Those stalls will be so good for the marketplace community lot from eco lifestyle 🎉🎉🎉
I feel like this pack would be perfect to update your encanto house build!! So many of the windows and doors etc match the vibe so much better than what you had available to use at the time. Love the video, thank you as always James!
James did an Encanto house build? 😲
The electric kettle is a staple in my US household, thank you very much. 😂
We also have one, but I feel like it's overkill if I want less than half a liter of boiling water. And I don't get up early enough to make two cups of tea, wait for the greater mass of water to cool to a drinkable temperature, and finish it all off before leaving for work. The microwave is just as fast for a smaller quantity of water, so I don't really see what problem people have with it.
ngl, such small things... but I'm excited for the basic white outdoor plastic chair and to finally be able to make hot cocoa!!
it has more stuff that makes the snowy escape pack complete, like the rice cooker or the shrine or ac and so on.
I love this unhurried, detailed introduction to the new pack build and buy catalogue from James! I would expect nothing less from our build guru. ❤❤❤
Seeing those floor tiles and all the soft pastels just gave me the urge to build my grandparents house from when i was a kid.
funny how deli seems so over the pastel swatches and james is so excited
I haven’t been this excited for a pack in a long time!
We need more laundry appliances and functional dish racks!
Fyi for those wondering, the tiffin has so many parts to it so that you can have your rice, curry, veg and/or dessert all separately packed but with one handle, so they don't get all mixed up or mushy.
OH MY GOD THE BASE GAME SINK UPDATE IS THE BEST THING TO COME TO THE SIMS EVER
That’s true and a valid point! I’ll take that into consideration moving forward for sure! Thanks :)
your showing the debug bike rack makes me wish we had new bikes in this pack. but I'm still very excited to play with For Rent when it comes out next week! thanks for another amazing review, James!
No joke. SEA inspired pack and no new bikes? Silly.
@@Terahnee right?! bad move Sims.
Because most American homes DO NOT have them.
I've never purchased a pack at release & paid full price bit honestly this one is speaking to my soul
How did I not know about the sink update?! I literally shouted, "Oh, thank you, God!"it is so far past time. 🤦🏼♀️
I really like the CAS in this pack. I feel like this pack and the ranch pack are so good for the CAS.
I was waiting for this one! I always enjoy your Build/Buy overviews the most! 😁
As a South-east Asian, I looove seeing these items that are similar to the items I grew up with. Makes me appreciate it more. Those cubic/lattice tiled walls?? I used to live in an apartment with that design! Ah, the nostalgia! Might buy this pack in full price 😝
That bar back would be such an amazing room divider. I can see it in a living room, perpendicular to the doorway, a sofa on the other side...? So good
I will say that my grandparents house literally has that bar back as a shelf with glasses and books and that just like it is pictured in game!
Those "basic" windows are perfect for local stores ♥
The "door" in the beginning sent me right back to my hometown in Vietnam 😆
Wow there is a lot in this pack. More than most of the recent ones I feel like.
The tile with the green grass grout gap (lol) is such a shame. At least have the spaces as concrete so it is more useful.
The decrotive door looks like those locked doors you see when your local mall is about to close down for the night
Just because we don’t have kettles in hotels here in the US, doesn’t mean we don’t use kettles at home 😂😂
Oooh the spirit house could be cool with paranormal stuff maybe
A lot of these items seem to go with that pack
This is going to be an awesome pack with SO many things you can do story wise. I love the colors they've introduced as well. 4 more days!!!!
Kettles are actually very common in the US.
I'm not from SEA, but i am from India and soo many items remind me of the stuff we have here and im soo excited to use them!! Also look at the tiffin box omggg
What is a tiffin box? I’ve never heard of it and I didn’t really understand James’ explanation 😅
