om thank you for restoring my sanity. i had a whole load of problems when buying a new axle for my 19mm Spanish bottom bracket and now after watching this i can sleep at night :D
Hey...awesome video and very informative. I have always used 1 piece cranks and I am going to venture into the 3 piece and you made it too easy that I cannot mess it up.
I'm building a bike from the frame out and had no clue what I was doing til I watched your video. Thanks so much for helping me figure out that my frame had an American bb, it was the missing link. Keep up the great work.
You're welcome. I thought those were part of the frame, or welded or pressed in place when I first did this as well. I wish bike parts came with instructions. I'm glad I could help.
Awesome vid. My euro bearings broke and long term its cheaper to just get a new frame and bracket. Now i can use my old diamondback and turn it into something decent. Thanks
I can tell that you took that original 3 piece off, then installed the 1 piece just to show how to remove it then installed a replacement 3 piece. That's alot of extra work and you deserve credit. I made a video on how to install a new 1 piece 10 years ago when there were not any videos on that and I'm glad to see there are more videos now. I got to say, WOW on the 500K views, in 10 years my video has gotten 53K. Then again I don't have 97K subs LOL No but really, GREAT video! I love how you showed how easy it is to make a bearing press to install cups the best way. I did use a hammer in my video but I did show how to do it carefully. Again, great video yo!
Many thanks guys, took the laptop out to the bike , had to pause you guys a few times and all is well ,my lads bike is up and running, many thanks, keep up the good work...Steve
First of all I would like to tell you that this video helped me out tremendously. It still was a ball buster but without this video I would have been twisting in the wind. So, again I thank you 💯
I this one of the better videos on you tube i think ive watched mainly cause when you watch a video explaining how to do something they treat you like your stupid but in this video is was good wasn't annoying and it helped inform me what i need to do with my bike
Thanks for this. Ordering an XL Floval Flyer and Redline Flight cranks. Have never installed 3 piece cranks before now, so I wanted a quick lesson. Seems easy enough. Your kids are funny!
This vid is very helpful. I have a newer kink curb with a unsealed American bottom bracket. The look of a sealed bb is awsome. Looking to get rid of the big nut and replace with the cone washers. So much cleaner looking.
This is so straight to the point, I will definitely do this when I got my mtb, cause my crank broke and IDK what to do with it but I don't have money to replace it rn cause I'm saving up for my mtb, thanks for the video!
I believe the sleeve in the middle is more than just a dirt cove, it also provides a stop for the inner bearing races, so that when the crank bolts are torqued you don't put a side load against the bearings. Thanks for a nice crisp How-To. also "shut up Jimmy " has been added to the things I yell at the shop. haha.
thanks for the video. I’m rebuilding and old miraaco bmx and needed the help and the parts. My bike have a three piece crank set, I just need the new seal bearing kit. Thanks again.
I had hard time to fit the sealed bearings bottom bracket cups into my 88 Haro Master bmx. I had to use a hammer and tap them really hard to get them in. I am sure it shouldnt be that hard to install them. I believe the problem was the sealed bottom bracket kit I bought, cups were bit bigger and needed to sand them down a bit. Worth spending a few $$ more to get a descent brand. Great video, whole procedure looks very easy to do, while I spend more than an hour to do the job.. I will get that DIY tool as well. :)
My first bmx bike was American unsealed bb. Over and over the bearings would fall apart and usually end in the cranks locking up and tossing me over the bars. Finally i wised up and bought a bike with mid sealed. I don't know why i never got this kit. It would have saved me some headaches.
Thanks! Will run to HD and buy the bolt and washers was not sure how to install my new bb cups. Will also be using the bolt for headset installation as well.
I've found an old Bmx bike (store bought) in the trash this past summer & the 1 piece crank was garbage along with the chain & such. I've been dabbling in thought of getting a 3 piece crank because it's better & durable. Here's my question, is it worth my money to get a 3 piece crank system on a bike i found in the trash, or should i just go install a 1 piece crank & ride it like that. I'm a fan of BMX, & i used to do some tricks when i was a kid, but i haven't done that in years since i my bmx got stolen. thanks for your advice, & i enjoy your bmx videos & how to's :)
+Sasha DC It depends on what parts you have. A bottom bracket kit is around $20, and a crank set with a sprocket would be close to $100. A good BMX bike sells for about $300, so you have to figure out what you want and what you are willing to spend.
My sprocket has a spacer built into it. Do you have to have an additional spacer of any kind between the sprocket and the euro bb? Clearance is fine and chain in straight.
Hoohoohoblin , while removing my press fitted cups on the loose ball BB i dug into the frame a bit using a flathead. Do you think ill have any problems
Not sure how would be the best way to do that. Maybe put a flat short piece of wood through the hole, then turn it sideways inside against the edges, and pound it out with a stick or socket extension.
its a very good video expect you never put the shins on your drive side, that should always line up with the rear driver, there always for non drive side
I have an old diamondback bmx bike from like 10 years ago , it has lots of upgrades such as tires , hubs ,bearings , chain , pedals and stem , it also has a 1 piece crank with unsealed bearings. Would it be a good idea to do this or just keep running the stock crank
I am trying to change my bearings on my Sunday 2018 blueprint. It has the same cup things in the B.B. do I need this special American bearing or am I good using a 19 mm bearing or 22
+Nikolas Iwankiw Take a look at this website. It will show the different sizes of bottom brackets, so you can see which one you need. Most likely you need an American bottom bracket conversion kit. www.danscomp.com/tech-help/types-of-bottom-brackets/
They both work similarly when they’re new. They one piece crank is one single piece, and a three-piece crank has two cranks and an axle in the middle. Upgrading from a one piece crank to a two piece or three-piece crank is expensive, and it’s often a better idea to just buy a whole new bike that already has the Cranks you want.

You're welcome. I was surprised to find out that BMX bike parts don't come with instructions.
Exact crankset I am installing right now! Those cups I actually thought were part of frame and kept me confused for weeks! Very helpful vid! Thanks!
You're welcome. I thought those were part of the frame, or welded or pressed in place when I first did this as well. I wish bike parts came with instructions. I'm glad I could help.

+Telling Fat to Fork Itself You're welcome. I'm glad I could help.
excellent job with the bolt and washers. more folks need to learn this method; its stronger more efficient and more controlled.
+Ben D Thanks.
This vid is very helpful. I have a newer kink curb with a unsealed American bottom bracket. The look of a sealed bb is awsome. Looking to get rid of the big nut and replace with the cone washers. So much cleaner looking.
It's an easy job to do, and the sealed unit works great, without ever needing adjustment.
Been wanting to replace my old haro cranks with new ones and this helped sooooo much! Thank you
You're welcome.
Hey p0 🐞
Thanks man I only needed the explanation of how to remove the one-piece cranks because I'm making a trampoline bike. This video was helpful
You’re welcome
I found the Sunday saker but it says it's a mid bb so we're did you find yours

Best video on how to do sealed bearing and 3 pc crank.

Ion know why I’m watching this I already know how to work on bikes😂

+Billy Celli I had the same troubles with bottom brackets, and I was kind of surprised to find that someone actually made a conversion kit.
The j-hop onto the box made it worth the watch..
Thanks! Will run to HD and buy the bolt and washers was not sure how to install my new bb cups. Will also be using the bolt for headset installation as well.
You’re welcome
Did the cranks come with bearings?
That is right on!! I got a YST coming. & I wlll be heading to Lowes or Home Depot soon!! Thanks Very mucn!!

Appreciate it! I've decided to get a 3 piece crank system for the long run. But thank you
Ima save this video so informative on how to do this
My sprocket has a spacer built into it. Do you have to have an additional spacer of any kind between the sprocket and the euro bb? Clearance is fine and chain in straight.
Awesome. Straight to the point and well done! Thanks
Thanks
Hey guys thank you for teaching and showimg me how to do that thank you !😊
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks man that really helped me ... You are awesome ... Keep up the good work.
You’re welcome.
Most helpful vid got an old school bmx I would like to bring back up to date..
Just wanted to say THANK YOU. THis is spot on.
You’re welcome.
The "little tube"is a sparser to keep your bearing from creeping inward
What if you were doing this to a mountain bike or something? Do they have the complete kits for that? 2x 0r 3x?
I checked the website out, Thanks for the help man.
You seem like an awesome dad! wish mine was like you haha.
Hoohoohoblin , while removing my press fitted cups on the loose ball BB i dug into the frame a bit using a flathead. Do you think ill have any problems
What size wrench is needed for the first bolt you took off with your hands
I found the same crank set on Dan's Comp but I could only find a Mid BB. Would that fit to replace my American BB?
Thank u so much!
because I build bikes and had no idea how to get that on and I have the Same crankset.
You're welcome. I am surprised that bike parts don't usually come with any instructions at all.
Ya me to
But again thank u so much
where did u buy the sealed bearings
Any homemade tool to pop out the cups EVENLY, so powder coat doesn't get chipped? Park tool BBT90 on a budget?
Not sure how would be the best way to do that. Maybe put a flat short piece of wood through the hole, then turn it sideways inside against the edges, and pound it out with a stick or socket extension.
Amazing method to install BB :) Like it more than smashing with hammer.
Hey the 3 pice cranks the tube in the middle can go to any side
Thank you so much I love the cranks🙏🏽🙏🏽
You’re welcome
Great video bro my bike has the same problem
I learned something today....... Thank you :)
You’re welcome
How do I keep the little tube thing inside the bb straight when I tap the cups in
Hi, could you please upload a video on how to remove a bmx bb cup
its a very good video expect you never put the shins on your drive side, that should always line up with the rear driver, there always for non drive side
Thank you so much this helped me with my tramp bike
You’re welcome
helped me so much , I'm resorting a bmx and didn't now how to but new bb in
Great! I'm glad I could help.
This video has helped a lot
I’m glad I could help.
my bb is threaded is it possible to install the bearings?
I see the item you gave a link to are unavailable as that was 7 years ago. Any idea of another place to have this conversion kit.
Thank you for this! I'm planning to do this on my '87 GT Pro Performer.
You’re welcome.
Excellent video! How long did you use it? Did it fail sometime?
It worked until my son got tired of the bike and wanted to buy a stronger lighter frame. I’m sure the bearings are still fine right now.
thanks man you are my savior
So I twist it right to take if the piece off In the Starting?
very helpful just got the saker crank and the bottom brackets are to small😔
I need an answer, if your frame is american bb should i use also a american bb?
Nice upgrade..
great video I need to install all this stuff made it so simple what is that long Screw called so I can go to home depo to get it?
It’s just a big giant bolt. Go to the bolt section and look for a giant one.
What rear rubs you have. Sound gorgeous.
I have an old diamondback bmx bike from like 10 years ago , it has lots of upgrades such as tires , hubs ,bearings , chain , pedals and stem , it also has a 1 piece crank with unsealed bearings. Would it be a good idea to do this or just keep running the stock crank
Not sure. It may be worth more money as a collector's item with the stock crankset. If it works fine, I'd leave it alone.
A screwdriver or a pin spanner for bb adjustment 🤔
usual tool to get the cups out is a cup removsl tool, you can make one with a piece of pipe with the end cut and splayed out
That’s a good idea. Thanks. I’ve seen those tools, but I never thought about building one myself out of a pipe.
Your BMX videos help me alot thank you so much! :)
You're welcome.
I am trying to change my bearings on my Sunday 2018 blueprint. It has the same cup things in the B.B. do I need this special American bearing or am I good using a 19 mm bearing or 22

The Sunday blueprint comes with seal bb bearings
Thank you for the knowledge dude 💯❤
You’re welcome
6 thumbs down?!? a**holes, GREAT WORK HOOHOOHOBLIN. love the vids im subscribed!
Thanks! No matter what you do in the world, there are at least 6 people out there who will hate it.
Seriously a perfect video!
Thanks
It comes off by turning it with your fingers?(The "screw like washer" on the outside)
The nut on the one piece crank needs to be taken off with a wrench. The washer under it should just slip off. It doesn't have threads on it.
What’s the diffrent from 1 price cranks and 3 price cranks? Is their an improvement? How to know which one I had
They both work similarly when they’re new. They one piece crank is one single piece, and a three-piece crank has two cranks and an axle in the middle. Thanks bro! Totally Awesome!
You’re welcome.
Liffeee saverrr i just got 3 peice cranks and i had wondered how i would switch them
What ring size is the paddle to fit the new crank piece?
What size washers did you use for your dyi bb tool?
Love this video to best tutorial.
Thanks
Good video dude.
Thanks!
I'm thinking of doing this may I please know about how much it costs
+Chandler Harrison Check the video description for part names and brands. Bottom bracket is around $20 and cranks are around $70 and a sprocket is $25.
Great video, only one out there that helped!
+Chris Thanks.
