Really still don’t get it why the flippers if you guys got live walking floors ??? A matter of fact ? What you guys do with dump trailers ? Flip them too ???

Hi Arthur, We only have a handfull of walking floor trailers. They don't come down here, they run their loads over to Gray Wolf, the small landfill up by Prescott. I do see walking floors here on occasion, but they dump down below the tippers where the rest of the public and residential trucks are. I really think it is a numbers game. They get 250 - 450 truckloads per day just from the tipper trucks. Walking floors are just too slow unloading. Plus, they are more expensive, more maintenance, etc. The wet kits on the trucks to pull them adds a lot of cost as well.

Also, the way I think about it, other than the unloading, everything else about a run in either type is the same. We all have to drive in, maneuver around to get in position, open tailgates, etc. To move the same volume of trash with walking floors, you would need to be dumping 6 or 8 at a time because they are slower. That would require a much bigger area for everyone to be able to move around without hitting each other. Sometimes, there is plenty of space, but other times, it is very cramped. I think it would be a logistical nightmare if everyone was running walking floors. Maybe at a smaller landfill that doesn't get this kind of volume, but here it just comes in too fast.
