    Something for potential buyers don't let the $6k stop you from looking. The Black Walnut table is $3525 at medium size. Where as Elm/Maple is $1350. Something like Elm/Maple will be around $3000 for the Table, Toppers, Topper Block, and accessories shown. I'd be difficult to hit $6000 going Elm/Maple even adding on many many accessories in those woods. Just something to keep in mind.

    • @dungeonartist
      @dungeonartist  Год назад +13

      That’s a great point as well! I hope I didn’t seem like I thought the table is overpriced. I think it’s a great value. It may be expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for. And there are far cheaper options, especially if you just get a base table and wait to buy accessories till later

    • @digitalraider
      @digitalraider Год назад +1

      Not to mention most of the money you will spend is on the optional accessories.

    • @mda187
      @mda187 Год назад +2

      This is the one thing people need to consider when they pick their wood. My wife OK'd the purchase, and we can afford to go for the more expensive woods, but the accessories are where it will cost you. We both like the walnut, especially the rustic walnut (which is a bit cheaper). However, when you factor in all the accessories and the topper block, and you want to match woods (which we do), the walnut accessories are much more expensive than the elm. It will be even worse if you go with the exotics and want to match. We eventually decided to go with the rustic elm and use the savings over the rustic walnut to spend on more accessories.

    Anyone curious, the wait many people experienced on the first kickstarter was due to wyrmwood waiting on machines to arrive and quicken their production process (machines hindered also due to covid) now that the company has finished the initial kickstarter and recieved all of the machines, their through put should be far more efficent. Great review of the table.
    (P.S. wyrmwoods vlog entitled "Wyrmlife" documenting their design and manufacturing process is extremely entertaining and informative for potential customers. Just something to consider for other possible backers!)

    • @dungeonartist

      Thank you for clarifying, that's a great point! Their ability to produce new tables has vastly improved, and watching the kickstarter updates, they have definitely worked hard to meet the demand. But seeing how the new KS already has over 5000 backers(wow!), I wanted to make sure people understand that they will be in for a bit of a wait :)

    • @syntaxlost9239
      @syntaxlost9239 Год назад +2

      Most of the wait was due to them massively overestimating how much tables they could reasonably produce in a month. They presently ship ~400 tables per month. The initial kickstarter had waves in excess of 1000 backers (which may represent more than one table).

      @@syntaxlost9239 I was on the original KS and watched while they opened that. I was thinking the whole time that they were going to screw themselves with over estimating the throughput they could achieve. I get doing that though there were a lot of people balking at the projected wait time so artificially making that lower I would assume brought in more customers. Really happy with it in the end though it's a niiiice table.

    Fellow MGT owner here. Love my table. I'm always excited to have people over, it's always easy to swap between gaming and eating, and I'm glad the table is ethically made in the US by a team of experts. WW works hard to make sure your product and experience are perfect.

    don’t forget to mention the amazing finish which tends to resist scratching and denting and that the packaging was better than anything i’ve ever seen and that the topper block now has accessories that can be purchased to make it useful when not holding the toppers.

  • @thorin01
    @thorin01 Год назад +4

    Once you pick a size the biggest part of the cost is the choice of wood. It's worth pointing out that you can mix and match your woods to control some of those costs (and add a little customization to your table). You can get the table in Walnut and the toppers in Wenge. You can mix and match any of the accessories the same way. I actually got most of my accessories in less expensive woods to keep the cost down. They still look great and have the same build quality.
    I got my table last month and I absolutely love it. It is well worth the cost. This is a piece of furniture I'll keep for a long time. I'm currently looking over the accessories being offered in the new Kickstarter to see what might work for how I'm using the table.

The only thing i think could be added is the starting price of the cheapest table, since wood selection has a big impact on it and the possibility for the table to grow in the future makes it easier to buy the smallest one if it is all you can afford

    One of the biggest tips that Doug gave on the Wyrmwood channel about getting one of these tables was that it's a marathon, not a sprint. By the table first, and the accessories later or vice versa. No need to buy everything all at once. And that's exactly what I'm gonna do.

    • @dungeonartist
      @dungeonartist  Год назад +1

      That is an excellent strategy. Starting with the base table and adding accessories is perfect. The only accessory I would say is a priority is the Topper Block if you’re getting toppers for your table. Without one, it’s likely that your toppers might get scratched

    I bought my small MGT on the website for the Black Friday 2023 promotion and received it at the start of July 2024, so quite a bit quicker than your two years. But the prices have only gone up every Kickstarter, so I guess I got mine at a good time, but not the best time. And I was lucky enough to have originally ordered in elm, which I was able to upgrade to cherry for free. Maybe I should've paid for the discounted upgrade to black walnut instead, but now I feel better going for all cherry accessories.
    And of course I love the table.

    3:39 - Do people not store their accessories IN the table? Especially the rail accessories like cup holders and such. When game night is done, we just move all ours to the inside rail and put the toppers on. I get that's not really handy for Player Desks and such, but for 90% of the "fiddly bits" it works fine. The most commonly used ones we store on the ends so they're quickly accessible by lifting the end topper.

      Thank you for the comment, and that is a great point. I do that with most of the small accessories. The images that I showed were more to showcase the inconvenience. I don't usually set them on the chair like that. But for the desks, and the game deck, I do find myself leaving them around because the games that I leave setup don't leave enough space for those in the vault.
      I would love to see them come out with a storage option on the wall so I can hang up my desks. And I will definitely be trading out the Game Deck for a Hobby Vault.

      Woodworker here. That sounds like a BS rumor to me. 1. Plywood is more stable than solid wood and is often used where wood movement could be an issue (like drawer bottoms, dresser backs, etc). 2. The source of any bowing would be along the rails, not the bottom. While possible, I doubt this is a problem due to the design and thickness of those rails.

    My thought is that heirloom quality and build it yourself do not go together at all. My group commissioned a local furniture maker (well kinda local, 4 hours away) and we had a custom made solid cherry table ( 3.5' x 8') built with all the features of this table plus a few more for about 1/3 of the price. It's one solid piece of furniture that took a forklift to load into my trailer and 5 strong guys to get from the trailer into the house. I consider that to be a heirloom table. And since I picked it up, shipping was free. That said, the table itself here looks really nice. And as long as your happy with it, that's all that matters.

    It's cool, but i get more satisfaction making my own stuff. It took a long time to get all the necessary tools, and now I'm lacking time of course.
    But most people aren't willing to drop quite as much money on tools, or have the time/knowhow and years of practise to work up to large scale and finely detailed projects. So honestly it's pricey, but to do similar yourself, you'll still approach the $1k mark in material costs alone, and be prepared to hit another 2-3k in the power tools you'll need to meet similar accuracy. So if you can afford it and have no interest in doing it yourself, I'd say it's worth it, as you would spend similar amounts or more on custom work, workout any of the features.
    You could do the entire thing with hand tools and drop your cost on tools down to under 1k, but i suggest those people take a block of wood, and try smoothing it down evenly with a hand planer. Then imagine doing that over several pieces, on both sides, to make a 6x4 foot or larger surface.

The ones I use the least are probably the player desks(only a couple of my friends prefer them), and the charging accessory is great, but doesn’t see much use at my table, and I’ve found it’s easy to forget to charge the battery when it’s not in use.

      Thank you for your critique. Bespoke doesn’t necessarily fit this table, since they’re modular in design. It would be more suitable to describe the Prophecy line that they offer, which are made to order and personalized for each customer. It just sounded right when I said it. But fair point.
      The vault is certainly a staple of game tables, but if I could offer some correction, I said “the first feature that sets it apart from other tables” speaking about tables in general, not specifically game tables. Most tables(dining room in this case) do not have a vault.
      Thanks for your comment, I appreciate every bit of feedback.

      i mean bespoke means customized and you can create a table here with a bunch of different customizations, so i'm gonna go ahead and say bespoke works just fine here. but you go ahead and pretend like you're superior.
