Jeff is an incredible showman. It doesn't matter if his effects are simple yet visual or require extremely difficult sleights. Jeff loves what he does, puts 100% into his performances and it shows. His presentations are always visually stunning. He's one of my favorites
I always get a kick out of neophytes saying things like "I know how that is done!", as if that is all there is to doing magic. Knowing a secret and performing it properly to the delight of an audience are 2 different things!
You are absolutely correct and also a lot of RUclips magicians have to do things 10 or 11 × 2 look good on camera one time period as a professional I have to do it right the 1st time every time or I won't be hired again
Wow, a lot of people don't know that about him. You know what I hate? Tell me your opinion on this; I was on a David Blaine video, and I made a comment saying I didn't like David Blaine's style of magic. Their conclusion was that I was just jealous of a Magician who was in his position. But that doesn't make sense because I'm obsessed with Jeff McBride, David Copperfield is still the best Magician of the century and Dan and Dave buck are responsible for a lot of my bookings. Would you say I'm just jealous?
Unpopular??? His Art of Card Manipulation series is the best-selling magic video series of all time and he did it all without an overblown viral marketing campaign that doesn't even show the full performance of one trick. Magic ain't always about fooling people it's about entertainment value and when I saw him do this live he killed and at the end of the show got a well-deserved standing ovation. As for the popular ones I've never needed to purchace a Garcia DVD since their easy to figure out.
He may put 100% into his shows, but that would be enough to tire anyone out, yet the amount of energy he has to come up to you and show you more close up magic extremely enthusiastically even AFTER his shows, is just magnificent, That's something that Eugene Burger can't work out, I saw him both times he came to England, and by christ do I love him! uber amazing!
The delightful (heh) thing here is that 90% of those with even a passing knowledge of magic know how he does these tricks...but it doesn't matter one bit. McBride's movements are so graceful, his showmanship so clear, that the actual 'trick' is almost secondary. I'd pay good money to watch Jeff McBride walk across the street. I bet he'd do it with FLAIR.
They should have turned the lights down more, in his live shows this is done practicaly in the dark. It looks better that way, but all in all Jeff's one of the best ever!
what was great about his stuff was that there was such a wealth of info on them so that each magician who got them could pick and choose what they would perform. It's good to know alot of material but work with what fits your style or modify it to fit. That way no one effect gets over-exposed and all this great material remains strong. You may not use it now but you may in the future. The problem with one-trick DVDs is that it's only one trick, ergo that one trick gets beaten into overexposure.
seen this performance last week at blackpool magic convention and at the end he threw that string of light at eugene burger where it appeared around his white beard. all i can say is WOW.
i dunno why but i first saw Jeff in an interview in TV and the first thing that came up to me is that he's a great magician... and i didn't even know who he is, maybe he really just has this illusionist aura in him
Yeah, the TT was a little dark I would say. Jeff is still an amazing performer. I've got some of is stuff on VHS (haha) and I cant even watch it anymore.
this is a good video to watch if you have one of the gimmicks he uses like I have. I had to really strain to even see it, but I knew he had to be using one. good hand movements for disguising it.
And another thought. Mcbride is also the most generous teacher when it comes to magic. He actually contributes to young magicians with his DVD series and school. You actually learn about performance and history of magic unlike the current trend ala Dan Garcia and Wayne Houchin who are only interested in inventing tricks to sell on over-priced single trick DVDs with the sole intention of making money off of young magicians. Tricks have died in less than a year due to their overpopularity.
McBride's Mask Routine is not famous because of the effect a spectator feels during a routine. This routine is recognized because of the originality, the beaty, and the artistic way McBride performs it.
I've been updating my stage show and I've been stuck on my coin set for 6 days. It's like I have Magicians version of writers block. I have a set of Morgans with a shell. The Charming Chinese Challenge, 20 palming Morgans and a few other things. I don't want to do the misers dream because I'm doing that with cigarettes. I can't wait until get past this.
Dude, you need to see McBride live and working a crowd before you can say shit like that. I've seen Copperfield, Burton, Angel, Penn & Teller, Siegfried & Roy, Amazing Jonathan, and Mac King all live and none of them brought the house down like McBride. Oddly enough the best trick was a rather simplistic one. His water bowl effect, I actually heard gasps when he did that one. That guy can spin anything to gold in front of a crowd and his ability to slay a crowd is what makes him one of the best.
I have more than 10 years in magic and cold not figured it out EXACTLY how he have done this, in other words, how he can turn on and off the lights on the stick and fans... And I don't think you can either...
@Pinkstonnaked Well you have to buy the right cane, install lights, etc. It would be best to just buy one. And dude wtf i don't know about the vanishing bird trick, I don't see whyd you ask me that.
"str8upcool2000 has been terminated because we received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted." str8 up cool, dude.
This looks terrible on TV. The lights get washed out by the TV lights. I saw this live and it is spectacular. Even if you think you know how its done. Its a must see LIVE!
Jeff is an incredible showman. It doesn't matter if his effects are simple yet visual or require extremely difficult sleights. Jeff loves what he does, puts 100% into his performances and it shows. His presentations are always visually stunning. He's one of my favorites
The double dancing cane routine was just amazing!
I always get a kick out of neophytes saying things like "I know how that is done!", as if that is all there is to doing magic. Knowing a secret and performing it properly to the delight of an audience are 2 different things!

I grew up with Jeff in upstate NY, he was also a fantastic trick skier, in the early days of hotdog skiing and freestyle.
Wow, a lot of people don't know that about him.
You know what I hate? Tell me your opinion on this;

umm yes, and quite a fool for liking this dude over David Blaine. I mean Copperfield is good but David Blaine? come on moron
Stalicone I was with Jeff today

he doesn t say a word and still does an awesome performance AWESOME!!
The flair and precision is a work of art. Bravo Jeff!

This guy was a regular on UK TV in the 80s, on the Pual Daniels Magic Show. He did some fabulous stuff, particularly the 'masks' routine.
They should have turned the lights down more, in his live shows this is done practicaly in the dark. It looks better that way, but all in all Jeff's one of the best ever!
I know how several of these are done and im still impressed. Jeff is very talented. these are not easy tricks
I must say, as a magician, this effect is d'liteful!
He is such an interesting magician. Really great to see someone a master like him perform :)
Yep, he doesn't hold back on the costumes. All part of what makes him a legend.
he taught how to make these and perform them yesterday at a lecture I saw him at. it was great!
what was great about his stuff was that there was such a wealth of info on them so that each magician who got them could pick and choose what they would perform. I met Jeff and learned from him; EVERYTHING he does occurs with flair. :)
seen this performance last week at blackpool magic convention and at the end he threw that string of light at eugene burger where it appeared around his white beard. all i can say is WOW.
a new classic!
He is really slick! Very entertaining.
In my point of view Good magicians dont just reveal tricks.McBride's routines are classic of magic.
i dunno why but i first saw Jeff in an interview in TV and the first thing that came up to me is that he's a great magician... and i didn't even know who he is, maybe he really just has this illusionist aura in him
Most original dancing cane routine.
-Sur.
0:39 You can see how she takes the canes from him and louds him at the same time behind his back.
Yeah, the TT was a little dark I would say. Jeff is still an amazing performer. I've got some of is stuff on VHS (haha) and I cant even watch it anymore.

Barry Goldberg Are these just dlights? I've never seen them used by a stage magician before..

what are those lights called that he gets off the cane and sticks to the fan?
@JustinTheMagician12 I was being facetious. I'm referring to his incredibly camp style of magic and dress. Both of which are awesome!

@Pinkstonnaked well its kind of hard to make, the rest is just however you wish to make the canes dance
Interesting
Muy Bueno el manejo del D'Lite. Saludos a Jeff Mc Bride!
He uses the very same 3 things to make a full routine. very nice!

This looks terrible on TV. The lights get washed out by the TV lights. I saw this live and it is spectacular. Even if you think you know how its done. Its a must see LIVE!

If I had the money i'd pay to let him teach me for like a day. Just one day. I bet that's all I'd need.
If he doesnt Impress you one bit then who does?
Chances are they went to jeff mcbride to help with their act...
LooL, if you look at 3:17 you can see his plastic thumb :))
@Prometheus666333 Dlites actually

what the hell is that? jeff invented back tongue single led production ? lol
wait, you mean this wasn't real? so if you can spot how the trick is done, do you pass for smart?
Aww c'mon Jeff, I can see the leylines!
First one is easy. It's just a piece of thread. Use to have that same trick in a magic kit I got for Christmas when I was younger.
@drakofiara666 more Iike 3:18 or even 3:19, but hey, good eye drako !
You shouldn't be exposing like that, it does magic a disfavour
