I really love how you are all about preference being at the heart of the hobby, and how the goal isnt just a deep sounding linear board with “thock”. I love your content, keep up the good work for as long as doing so is fun
Welcome to the hobby. My first aluminium custom was the Keychron Q2, it was way more expensive than the options we have nowadays like the Sugar65, Xinmeng A66, M67 etc. but nevertheless I do feel that these more expensive keyboards give a better feel when you touch the metal case. I sold it anyway at a decent price, and bought new ones, that's when I realized I'm going down this rabbit hole...
@@rebel__dragon3521 The keycap profile took me a couple of days to get used to since I've only ever used cherry profile keycaps, but that's the only "complaint" I've got about it. Absolutely love typing and playing games with it. I love how light the switches are on it
I like your videos, bc they are informative and at the same time you keep remembering that these are your opinion and it may not overlap. But what I totally love is how they perfectly convey the cat owner experience..... Nola bitting the foam on the background, gettint tired of it and deciding to start another task.... On point.
The "No Case Foam" stage sounded absolutely perfect to me 🤌 Just got my first mechanical keyboard earlier this week (fully assembled Keychron V6 w/ knob). Sounds pretty good already (minus the spacebar), but I'm gonna have to see if I can make it sound more like this.
Trick for better sounding spacebar is putting some poster putty into the underside of it equally on both sides. It will deaden the sound completely. You can do this for any keys that seem excessively noisy or have the wrong "ring" to them when typing. I'm curious what an entire keycap set deadened with poster putty would sound like.
I just bought a drop cstm80 because of ur short and stream where u talked about it. It’s my first mechanical keyboard and I want to thank you for making keyboard videos because they basically introduced me to the world of mechanical keyboards.
This is just my assumption for why there are slot cuts in the case. But I think the slot cuts is to balance the weight from the battery on the opposite side. I'm assuming that the battery is lighter than the metal of the case.
I bought my first mechanical keyboard with tips from this channel. Not the cheapest, but has all the features, wireless Ghz, Bluetooth , RGB, Hot-swappable of course. I don't care much about the sound , but the hot-swap was what i wanted. I bought some silent switches( silent switches are more expensive by BTW) and occasionally when i'm bored i swap my silent with the noisy switches just for a achange!!
I have this built from it's barebones form and it is outstanding. I ended up using a mix of U4Ts and Epo Budgerigars for switches, and a set of Ghost Judges Apollo keycaps (stuck with the idea of the space theme). The result is is totally thocky, and very satisfying. It's a very heavy board, so those thinking this is good for travel, I'd look elsewhere, perhaps something like the Epomaker TH80SE with the purple keycaps and Budgerigar switches (I have this as well, and it's fantastic for travel purposes).
Feker actual does make decent product and you can get the Galaxy from other vendors instead of Epomaker if you don't want to buy from a vendor that has questionable aftersales support. It's about 80 for the trimode and 70 for wired only for a kit without switches and keycaps.
@@imamoocow4 In my opinion yes. I bought it a couple months ago and am still loving it. The software is good enough, but isn't an area of concern for me. The keyboard feels premium to me, Hipyo talked about the quality of the aluminum but I don't keep screwdrivers or other metal objects on my desk that can scratch my keyboard lol. At the end of the day it's all about preference but I think this keyboard sounds, feels, and looks amazing right out of the box.
@@imamoocow4 Hi there! I have had this keyboard for a few months. Still one of my favorites to use. The sound out of the box is so soothing. My only complaint is that there is no full size version of this. I need a Numpad for work. Other than that, it's still working great!!!
After going way down the rabbithole that is mechanical key contraptions to the very extreme I can honestly say that the best sounding and the best feeling/functioning keyboard are rarely ever two in the same. Case in point *no pun intended* the most functional keyboard I have that keeps my RSI in check is the Feker Alice 80 67% split ergonomic keyboard with mostly Chinese clone parts feels the very best and sounds the worst. Just my 2 cents.
I didn't know that the Fekee holy pandas were clones. I thought feker were the ones who made the holy pandas. I guess you learn something new, in this hobby everyday 😂😂
I think the definition of leaf spring has evolved with time. I think the Thermal was defined as leaf spring but it was mostly cuts in the alu plate to create the spring effect. I think the Kohaku is a leaf spring similar to Thermal. Nowadays I believe Owlab Spring, Link65, AM, etc. are all what we generally consider leaf spring.
When i was entering custom keyboard hobby, i bought aula f75(i wish you will check on it, or even make review on it) but now I’m thinking to make custom keyboard 😀(thx to you for your channel)
The keycaps looks like my XVX profile keycaps from dagaladoo. They're a blend of XDA profile with the curve of cherry profile. I actually love this profile since I have large hands.
The algorithm recommended your video while I was researching the NuPhy Gem80. The price point is crazy value! Ended up ordering the barebones kit for $70 with Chinese Near Year/Valentine's Day sale discounts
Wow, the case is aluminium and stock sounds awesome... but you're right, it all depends on the combination of all the parts! My tiny bit of experience so far is that a LOT depends on the key caps; the material/production process that can make the keys harder or softer on the bottoming-out and return, and the height makes it sound more hollow or shallow.
I just put together this keyboard tonight after work with some custom keycaps, I bought the barebones version and Akko cream yellow pro V3 switches and it sounds insane. Good pop from the keycaps and super thocky. I think I messed up my pcb a little in one spot because I can't get the right windows button to actuate, and I bent a few pins at first but this is my first "build" and I couldn't be happier. $90 in Canadian funny ducks for a pre assembled aluminum case/pcb/ dampening etc. is wild. side note the stabs are a bit overlubed but I'm sure that will be a self solving problem over time.
If you scratch the keycaps with your nail, it might be leaving filings on the key rather than scratches. Try cleaning them with a mild cleaner and see if they go away.
just bought one of these guys in blue and am super happy with it. Hoping to swap out the caps then switches later down the line once my wallet recovers from buying this lol. Also as a heads up for anyone seeing this comment now, Amazon has these for sale at 100 dollars with a 20 dollar off coupon, I think the grand total I paid for mine after shipping and tax was a little less than 90 bucks.
I just ordered the barebones of this, with KTT Macaron Blue Switches and some cute Venit Keys Panda keycaps. Can't wait to build it when they all arrive next week! I think that it may have been a costly idea 😅
On preferences: Gotta be honest, I don't get the gasket mount, flex fad. It seems to me that gasket mounts might be great for typists trying to mitigate fatigue. However, with a plastic plate PCB with flex cuts, the gasket action and flex will vary across the board - the middle will be more flexible than the sides. Even having a gasket with something like an aluminum plate, will change how the keystrokes feel when the user presses different key combinations down because it will depress the board to different degrees. As a gamer, I don't want that kind of "play" in the action on the keyboard because gaming relies on extremely accurate timing. I need to know exactly when each keystroke will register and it needs to be really consistent across the keyboard and regardless of whether I am pressing W alone or sprint strafing by pressing W+A+Shift or some other common combo. This trend has made it really difficult to find non-gasket, aluminum plate keyboards within particular layout profiles and it is really annoying.
Did you know the gmk87 came out? It'd be cool to hear your thoughts on it. It's a gasket mounted tkl with a flex cut polycarb plate. It also has a knob and an oled screen
I know most comments get lost in the mix. But I have been in the luxury automotive industry for 25 years. And I have customers complain about the way the keys on high-end cars sound. When doing this repair, it is always amazing to hear the customers reaction. But all I have ever used is HOCKEY TAPE. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
they improve the paint now with 'Pro' version which seems the same in every other respect according to vendor info on Aliexpress. This keyboard is working well for me if it was 2x or 3x the price it would still be very good indeed.
I was recently shopping for something relatively budget (or really budget), made of aluminium and I just couldn't cover all the bases. If one keyboard had one thing, it lacked in other places... Sometimes it was lack of knob (but I could stomach it if it had enough 'free' keys), or it was seemingly perfect, but without QMK/VIA support and / or lacking in layout (e.g. screen taking up space for mentioned keys in place of knob). This way I eliminated e.g. Chilkey ND75, Womier SK75 (no VIA, suboptimal layout / lack of knob), also it seems that many wireless boards just lack VIA support, so I ended up with Monsgeek M1 V3 (wired qmk) which has yet to arrive. I guess I might just have got another Keychron, but I wanted to try something else. I'm spewing all of this as this board seems to have many advantages (well, the sound, dissaembly, price, gaskets), but on the other hand really lacking like in software, or quality (case easily getting scratched is like huge problem IMO)... Really even though there are so many good options nowadays, it's still kinda rough to just get something perfect as in having all the features you need. I would get keyboard that needs mods, but has the right set of features, over one souding / feeling good ootb, but lacking in one of these areas.
Three years ago, an aluminum keyboard for the same price had no flex cuts, no foam, awful stabs, and the sound could wake up the dead. I got into the hobby at the wrong time ☹ I know why you removed the foam, Hipyo: to let Nola chew it, right? 😅
This looks like an alu copy of my Aula F87 Pro, or my Aula is a plastic copy of this one. I have the same keycaps only in white/dark/green. Great video !
This keyboard is very interesting with all foams, a forcebreak mod and tape mod with Gateron Milky pro V2. Sounds like ice cubes in a cup of hot cocoa.

Great vid again Hipyo! Would love to see this compared to the HI75 and the Aula F75. The Aula feels so good to type on, I'm actually in love. Note the Aula F-series each has different switch offerings for the 75, 87, and 99
After building my first pc I find this video. I didn’t even know you build your own keyboard it never occurred to me that’s just something you can just do.
Honestly, I love this! I love keyboards that 'ping' but that's just me and my ADHD being weird. But what I find frustrating is finding a keyboard I love, it says "RGB" and on the site it shows alllll these color combos you can do but then, when you get it, there's like maybe six and no way to customize them. So that's my pet peeve. And as I don't have the hip new Apple iPhone (can't afford it), I'm stuck using a Walmart special $100ish Android which can barely handle Facebook and recently, due to 'lack of storage space' (wait wut), stopped updating even that x'D So know I can do this, at the bare minimum, is a relief!
Those random cutouts look like they're there for weight balance, I imagine something inside made it feel heavier on that side so they cut some material out from that end of it.
Sorry question about the lights!! Can you change the colour from rainbow to just white or something else? Also, I've always loved those keyboards that when you type a key it lights up from that key and waves out. It's not a necessity but I was just wondering if this program has this feature!!!!
It actually sounds pretty solid with no foams for a super budget alu board. I'd still rather spend a few more bucks and get a QK Neo, though, if I wanted a clacky build. Also- Would be cool to see you do a Leobog Hi8 review!
bought the barebones of this keyboard with morandi switches. Big problem for people who want to mod this, i would recommend a chilkey nd75 barebones because the screws on this keyboard really suck. The switches are also pretty horrible in terms of pre lube and rattly sound.
I went from a razer keyboard to the keychron C3 PRO and I love it. The keyboard is mikes ahead of my razer. I do plan on building my own this year and your videos have been helpful. I really want shine through keycaps and I plan on building an all white board
I guess side-backlit legend keycaps would be needed if wanted backlit keycaps as normal one would not work as well unless you have switches with clear stems and housing.
I love the color of the keycaps but I think they are to low and have to sharp edges. Any recommendations for beautiful keycaps that fit the black Epomaker x Feker? And thanks for making me addicted to mechanical keyboards... I used to be a solid Logitech MX user.... and now I have got 4 mechanical keyboards :)

just ordered one just because of your video
Nobody gonna talk about how fire Hipyo's song is?!
Those random cutouts look like they're there for weight balance, I imagine something inside made it feel heavier on that side so they cut some material out from that end of it.
Just got one. Waiting for WS Morandis to arrive.
The keycap profile looks like XVX to me (a supposed blend of Cherry and XDA). I currently have XVX on my Q11 and actually quite like it.
I’d really love to see you try resin 3D printing keycaps
Sorry question about the lights!! Can you change the colour from rainbow to just white or something else? Also, I've always loved those keyboards that when you type a key it lights up from that key and waves out. It's not a necessity but I was just wondering if this program has this feature!!!!
It actually sounds pretty solid with no foams for a super budget alu board. I'd still rather spend a few more bucks and get a QK Neo, though, if I wanted a clacky build.
Also- Would be cool to see you do a Leobog Hi8 review!
i love how hipyo says the keyboard is “budget” but it actually costs more than my net worth
bought the barebones of this keyboard with morandi switches. Big problem for people who want to mod this, i would recommend a chilkey nd75 barebones because the screws on this keyboard really suck. The switches are also pretty horrible in terms of pre lube and rattly sound.
Finally someone else besides me who rubs a screwdriver against my keyboard daily just to scratch it 🤨
As Hipyo always says, that would be about preference. Long as you scratch your own.
I went from a razer keyboard to the keychron C3 PRO and I love it. The keyboard is mikes ahead of my razer.
I do plan on building my own this year and your videos have been helpful. I really want shine through keycaps and I plan on building an all white board
Those keycaps look like clones for the Akko Black&Cyan but flat profile
12:20 Nola chewing on disassembled foam
I guess side-backlit legend keycaps would be needed if wanted backlit keycaps as normal one would not work as well unless you have switches with clear stems and housing.
I love the color of the keycaps but I think they are to low and have to sharp edges.
Any recommendations for beautiful keycaps that fit the black Epomaker x Feker?
And thanks for making me addicted to mechanical keyboards... I used to be a solid Logitech MX user.... and now I have got 4 mechanical keyboards :)
