I just ordered my first fully fitted set of irons and wedges from Club Champion here in the U.S. and I can't wait to play with them. Learned a lot through the fitting process, and I was AMAZED at how much swing weight affected my ability to feel where the club head is and the resulting strike consistency. I hope to have them in the next 2 weeks! Taylormade HiToe 60 and 54 degree wedges, T100 G-7 iron and T150 6-4 iron.
These irons are positively spectacular from both a performance and appearance perspective. You are so correct when you note that all of us should get pleasure when playing. And these irons are giving you great pleasure.
What is the total price for this whole process? The purchase of the irons, new shafts and the fitting process? Regular golfers need that info as a compare and contrast to store bought clubs or going to get a set of fitted clubs from the golf store.
@ Thank you. $1,350.00 or so for 7-8 clubs. So you buy clubs that are about $85 per club and they now balloon to over $270? Just change this from “Pimp my Ride” to “Pimp out my golf clubs”. The core demographics of this brand Tacoma are $85 per club and they still have 7 more clubs to potentially create a full bag. Please go back and finish the full bag and let us know what a full bag costs. Over $4,000? lol Custom golf is expensive.
In February LA jacked up the price of their shafts from $105 to $149 apparently for P&L reasons and not for supply chain cost increases. Makes for very pricey clubs when you add in the cost of puring etc. Puring costs about $55 per shaft. The 301 clubs cost $650 with stock KBS shafts, or $80 each. So it looks like this set will run at least $335 per club or about $2,700 for a set of 8.
I totally agree. I am sure Takomo will be well pleased with the DTC product that they sell, which has been ripped apart and adjusted /rebuilt at SGGT and is not mentioned!!! At all. So James, please give real numbers of what it really costs a consumer to do the same, not just have a smile like a Cheshire cat.
Yep. He's at least spent the same again on the shafts. Kind of pointless if the only reason for buying the takomo in the first place was based on price
In America, those LA GOLF shafts are like 199 dollars each. So, yeah, he added about $1400 worth of shafts to his $700, for a total of over $2K. He wouldve saved money at a PXG FITTING.
Im curious how LA Golf shafts were chosen as the right fit for the takomo heads. Did they have a Takomo fitting head to test launch, spin, and feel on the day with that shaft?
I am building a set of 101t’s tomorrow for a customer. Not nearly as technical as you had but after 4 different shaft trials we are set and my customer…as James would say is “buzzing “. This makes my 30 set of Takomo’s built and still amazed at the quality of their products.
Great video. I had club fitting and received my club brand new. Had problems hitting them. Went to another fitting shop and they totally redone them, most loft were good but lye were off and shafts weren’t spined properly.
New gear is always fun and exciting. Even better is tuning up what you've got and getting a great result. There's something to building on familiar experiences with your current gear instead of swapping out for different.
James Really like your videos. Your fitting with SGGT made me do the same even if Axiom made it into my clubs. You must have inspired quite a few as it took a good month for Fujikura to deliver. Pls keep on producing such enjoyable videos
Those new irons kick A. I love my 101s as well. Hitting a great stinger 4-iron shot...even better hitting two and they both finish within a club length of each other...pass me a cigarette. By far the Takomo's are the best iron I've ever played. And, they're the best iron for value out there bar none. Yes please!
Pured shafts for the win.... i never realized how each club can feel different untill i picked up a set of used Epon af703 that had pured shafts... every single club feels identical if you hit it pure... and it has given the confidence that i can hit more greens with them...
I am curious what the additional cost would be. If I had ordered just the heads only and then get them fitted for shafts. What would be the cost for me to go to Taylor Made for a custom fitting for their irons?
Definitely an expensive set now. Cheapest LAgolf shaft on their site is $100US. So for me that's $140cdn. X 7 shafts and the cost of the heads at $650cdn. Throw in a proper fitting and build with the grips. I now have a set of PXG clubs...lmao.
I really enjoyed the video and the whole process. I own a se TV of MP-32 Mizuno irons, and I'm wondering if its a good idea to strengthen the lofts a few degrees. I love these irons,, but I'm in my 72nd year now, and I'm searching for a little help with my distances.
I work on my own clubs so the build process was very interesting. I have re-shafted my gamers twice this year. I enjoy tinkering around with my clubs but have never gone through a fitting and that might be my next step. I have had some physical issues so I am trying to get back to a healthy state before trying a fitting. I watch all your videos and share your desire for golf to be more affordable but I did think it was a little ironic that shafts you put in are retail almost double the cost of the clubs themselves. Anyway, I enjoy your videos and the next 100 series. Thanks
Hi James, absolutely pure professional job to build these irons I mean shafts weights and grips,I really come to England to do this kind of fitting I definitely needed, can you tell how much is cost you,I will travel from Spain to do the fitting and I think is better know the price before I travel, thanks for the lovely content !!!
It's a cool upgrade option, seems to work well for you James. On the simulator with the 4 iron, at address the club looks toe up, wonder what it's like at impact. Might be causing the lefts 🤔
James the new clubs look fantastic I'm a sucker for new Shafts anyway I can't believe you haven't heard of La golf I may be mistaken but I believe Bryson dechambeau kind of put them on the map with the Potter shafts to start 18:10
While you're still so excited about golf, and loving your "new" clubs, how about a Quest for The Open series in 2025? I think you owe it to your regulars, actually! 😁
It's interesting that you've never heard of LA Golf, because, even though they're a quite newish brand, they have DJ and Bryson using their shafts and have worked with Cobra on their putter line.
I need to know the total cost plz. Takomo irons we know, but please share cost of fitting, shafts, grips, and install. I realize these are ultra premium components with an upscale fitting process. Wondering what the coast would be compared to a free golf town fitting and like a callaway apex. I bet the end result is the apex would be cheaper???? Would love to know. I am watching the heck out of these videos deciding what to do for clubs next year!
It would be great if you could produce a second set with the same club heads, but the shafts all aligned with the logo. I would wager a significant amount of money that you could not tell the difference. "Puring" is a newer process that is an extra charge--often a signficant charge--that provides very little useful value. If given the option, decline it every time.
One day someone may come up with a legitimate reason that makes any sense as to why head covers for irons is considered a bad thing….but so far I haven’t heard one. I mean seriously those irons look great so why not protect them? Aaron Rai from the PGAT has a great reason for using them…absolute legend…James mate…stick some head covers on asap !,
Head cover on driver, fw & putter, yet you let those beautiful irons clack around like a cheap set of thrift shop clubs…Buck the trend and get some irons covers !

Actually I just did something similar with my 101s. Was debating on a set of 201s and was concerned about graphite vs. steel. Takoma clubs are great as is, but if you can a fitter/builder, get fut, get heads only and shaft to your best specs! It might be more than the DTC price for clubs, but still less than the big name brands, PLUS thry are built for you.
