In this episode I travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to visit a few gas stations to see if there food is as good as people say it is. Then visit a few places of interest like the Harley Davidson Museum, Miller Brewery Tour and even check out a basketball game at Fiserv Forum and see the Milwaukee Buck's beat the Washington Wizards. But first I'll eat at Breakfast at Kwik Trip, Sample Cheese at Widmer's, lunch at Casey's General Store and finally dinner at another Kwik Trip.

ABOUT Kwik Trip
Kwik Trip/Kwik Star is a chain of convenience stores founded in 1965 with locations throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota under the name Kwik Trip, and in Iowa under the name Kwik Star (to avoid confusion with QuikTrip). The company also operates stores under the name Hearty Platter, Tobacco Outlet Plus, and Kwik Trip/Kwik Star Express. Kwik Trip, Inc. is a privately held company headquartered in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Unlike many other convenience store chains, the company is vertically integrated across most of its product lines. It carries bag/pitcher milk and orange juice in pouches under the Nature's Touch brand via its in-house dairy. Kwik Trip also has an internal bakery operation which provides sliced and wrapped bread, doughnut and muffin products to its stores, along with a store brand snack line under the "Urge" branding. The company also maintains branding partnerships with several Upper Midwest professional sports teams, including Minnesota's Twins and Vikings, along with the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.
ABOUT Casey's General Store:
In 1959, Donald Lamberti leased a service station in Des Moines, Iowa, from his father. After successfully remodeling the station into a convenience store and operating it for nine years, his gasoline supplier and friend, Kurvin C. (K.C.) Fish, suggested that he purchase the Square Deal Oil Company, a service station available for sale in Boone, Iowa. Lamberti followed Fish's advice and purchased the station, which he renamed "Casey's" after Fish and as with his leased store converted the station into a convenience store. The logo on the Boone store is the same logo used today by the Casey's chain.
The Boone store (located in a town of only 12,500) did well, so Lamberti decided to see if he could duplicate his success. He built another store in Creston, Iowa (population 7,000) and that store did well also. Lamberti became more ambitious and decided to open a store from scratch in the even smaller town of Waukee, Iowa (population 1,500 at the time). The Waukee store proved to be the most successful of the three, so Lamberti decided to purchase and open more stores, concentrating on towns of less than 5,000 population (a variation on the tactic used in the early success of Wal-Mart).

As a Wisconsinite, Kwik Trip is ubiquitous. Ken, Kwik Trip is so successful because they create and distribute their own line of foods. All the donuts, coffees, pizzas, dairy...etc. Come from their own factories, thus they have a better profit margin and can better keep the inventory in their 600 plus locations full and fresh. Their workforce is well trained and compensated, right down to "see ya next time.". It did not happen overnight but knowing their growth through the decades, it is a remarkable story.

It's crazy how far gas stations have come these days.
It's more like you go to a regular shop, where you can get gas.
Far more advanced than the ones we have in Oz, and huge. Truck stops here in Oz should be as big as these ones in Canada/USA. We have the land to not build up on-top of each other!

Excellent hot foods, coffee, soft drinks/shakes and cheap Bananas.
As someone who goes to Kwik Trip daily, i highly recommend their BBQ rib sandwich. It might be the unhealthiest thing on their menu, but its a great sandwich (add pickles and onions to make it a McRib)
Also a big fan of their roller dogs
100x Better than a McRib ever dreamed of being. This is my go to sandwich at Kwik Trip as well.

Kwik Trip is a fairly vertically integrated company, all the milk they sell is from their own dairies and is branded Natures Touch. The same goes with their baked stuff like their doughnuts and breads. All their food items are actually made in the stores or off site by KT. They are probably the only gas station/convenience stores around that actually do this. I love KT and will stop at one any chance I get. Ohh and it's pronounced "West Alice" like Alice in wonderland
In Iowa the stores are called Kwik Star-used to be called Kwik Trip but if memory serves me right a chain of stores called Quik Trip were there first. However, the food is good and so is the coffee. They carry a lot of fresh grocery items as well.
Quik trip does that too, see them all over the place in the Dallas area. They opened up a multimillion dollar facility in Oklahoma a couple years ago solely for producing food for their stores...and now on top of that they have qt kitchens where they make stuff fresh like pizza, breakfast tacos, grilled cheese...it's pretty good. I don't think they have their own dairy farms though, but braum's does.
Kwik trip was the greatest thing and moving to ohio, the lack of a kwik trip was a real hit.

I am from the midwest and know caseys well. Currently live in the Dallas area. For a gas station with bbq its pretty good. You should check it out.

For y'all that don't know yet, Casey's has bought out Buc-ees. I'm waiting for the first Super Casey's Buc-ees combo store. Love our Casey's here in Missouri, but I love going to Buc-ees just for the fudge when I visit family in Texas.

Here's the thing... I'm originally from Texas. I spent my first 18 years of life in the Lone Star State. But then I moved to Iowa. And I kept hearing that people in Iowa get their dinner from a gas station. I was so confused. Until I had Casey's pizza and was blown away. It really is a stand out pizza. However, you have to go to the right Casey's at the right time to get the best experience. Happy you checked it out! Keep up the good work.

"I won't be able to eat all that cheese." Something I've never said to myself. ;-) That mini cheesecake is from Chuckanut, WA. I get a few of those here in Seattle when they're on sale (they're kinda pricey for what they are at normal price) and have a chocolate truffle one in my freezer right now. And edible cookie dough usually doesn't have eggs, so don't cook up like regular cookies. They're usually kinda flat, but may still taste OK.

We have one in our town too. Love those! Another of my KT go tos is the BBQ Pork sandwich in the blue wrapper. Add pickles and onion and a lil extra bbq sauce 😋

Nature’s touch is one of Kwik Trip’s own brands. I get the blueberry donuts every time they’re on sale. In Minnesota, Kwik trip has the best gas station food selection. We have Casey’s too but only in more rural areas.
Casey's clearly has better pizza, biscuits and gravy, and sandwiches. Kwik Trip better donuts and chicken.

I'm glad to see you make it to a Casey's and a Kwik Trip. Being from Iowa myself those are midwest staples when it comes to gas stations and you can never go wrong with either of those. All Casey's pizzas are really good with the taco and bacon breakfast pizzas being my personal favorites. Love the videos Ken, keep up the amazing work!
@Fuert Neigt You thinking of QuikTrip/QT? But like KwikTrip/KT it is Family owned... KT is based out of La Crosse, WI...with 600+ stores in Minnesota,Iowa,and Wisconsin. KT goes by KwikStar in Iowa so as not to be confused with competing QT stores in that State.

Milwaukee Wisconsin has a famous Custard place called I think it’s pronounced Leon’s frozen Custard. It’s worth braving the cold to visit that place the custard is Devine.

The one in Oshkosh was opened shortly after the one in Milwaukee by the same owners. I live in Oshkosh that’s why I’m familiar with this one but wasn’t aware of the Milwaukee one.

Wisconsin resident here. Casey's is decent for gas station food. Not a fan of taco pizza, since I like pizza to taste like pizza (and tacos to taste like tacos). But their traditional pizza slices are usually pretty good. Can be hit and miss depending on the location. Kwik Trip is tops, however, as far as gas stations go. They are always well laid-out, clean (including the restrooms), and have a great food selection. If they don't have it available on their display, they will usually make it for you. As someone who is often on the road during a work day, they are a good lunch stop with great prices. I recommend the spicy chicken sandwich over the regular sandwich you tried. Much better and more flavorful, with a nice kick to it. Also a fan of their Roller Bites and Tornadoes.
FYI - The second word in West Allis is pronounced like the name Alice.
