- Star Citizen is about to get a huge update with 3.23 and in our first 'first look' of Star Citizen 3.23 we're checking out the the new character customizer. I'll be honest, it's super powerful and probably one of if not the best character customizers I've seen in a video game.

Aside from the minor dithering, the hair looks genuinely incredible! Wonder how well it translates in-game 🤔

It's been quite a few years, but when asked about playable aliens in the past CIG's position was, IIRC, "not at launch, probably not soon after launch, and adding playable aliens would likely be a major content expansion built around the newly playable species".
And also the problem of body sizes, being able to sit in ship chairs and so on.
I mean, we know they do have some ideas or tentative plans, eventually, for Banu, Tevarin, and Xi'An as player options. But that will be years down the road.
And yes, I can spend hours making characters in a good character creator.

I believe CIG said in the past that players will not be able to be aliens in game.

there has been talk about alien species as playable races potentially coming as a DLC at some point.
Some crazy punk eyeliner can work. They are blending male and female features for every person to choose their flavour. It would be nice if we can port our character to SQ42
Since they allow you to export the character, you might be able to import it into SQ42. I am not sure if they will restrict it in any way.
Funny, I found it freaking awkward to use, so in the end I picked a preset, and did a few adjustments to it. And saved that as my first attempt.
Same here! I had a go at randomising but I found the results were pretty scary. So I went for the safe option in the end 😄

I spent more time customizing my character then playing the game yesterday! I am attempting to re-create my friend, so i can get him to come back and play with me!
great. how often will I have to try to recreate my characters appearance due to patches etc. my current avatar takes me about 30 seconds to recreate.
With the new character creator should come a save and load feature which should minimize some of the pain of recreating it. I think it was also mentioned they were going to add the character to the long term persistence so that may solve patch update recreation as well.
@olli43 Have you heard anyone talking about if Robots ever will be in SC? I would love to have a2d2 as a gunner ontop of my ship... and as a pet. hahahaha.

Well with how many times I have to “start over” when they do a up date, with how many updates they have been doing lately, I’ll be seeing this customizer frequently. Seriously. Getting tired have having to start over every up date.

I find it amazing, that all this is based on the cryengine. I mean it is a kind of old engine but for star citizen it's heavly modified.

Can they be saved so that the next time the game resets we don't have to rebuild them from scratch? Otherwise this is pointless past playing with it one time. It gets old.

yes, they said you can save the character to file to reuse later or if you want send it to a friend and they can use it as well, become twins or clones..
Gotta love how the default male character is now someone that probably 98% of the star citizen community doesn't look like so you immediately have to start changing it, I guess maybe that's the point so you don't just keep the default guy.
I think we may get Alien player models, but that's far away past 1.0 in my opinion.

Not a fan of the clown makeup option what's the point on spending half a billion on "immersion" only to end up in fps combat with people wearing light purple eyeshadow and green blush?
There are dozens if not hundreds of colonized worlds, each with multiple continents where people live on each with multiple cities, with one of the newest systems having been colonized for about 100 years now, and all of that is playing out 930 years into the future.
Who knows what would be fashionable on any one of those colonies? Just think about how fashion changed in the last 900 years. Heck, have you seen what people clad themselves in in the 80s? Have you ever seen a Punk? And I don't mean the Avril Lavigne type Skater Punk Fashionistas, but the ones who will bring old furniture into abandoned places and live as small communities by fixing up whatever they find with some patchwork carpentry. They're just a single step away from light purple eyeshadow and green blush.
I can totally believe that within 930 years of social evolution on worlds divided by distances our currently fastest vessels will never manage to gap within a single human lifetime there will be a subculture that uses these exact combinations and think of it as being fashionable as hell.
Implementing DLSS Is stupid, Star Citizen has always had a constant and massive performance issue with FPS. It'll barely help at all, especially when it's CPU heavy.

I think the character creator needs to be ALOT better. I think its actually very bad atm. IMO. especially after just experiencing the character creator for Dragons Dogma 2.
I'm sure it will by release - Remember this is the first iteration and not everything will finalised yet.
@@martinjh999 This is not the first iteration that they have given us. I believe its either the 3rd or the 4th. I really do think it will be better by release but they hyped this thing up like crazy. Even said they used the same tool to create every NPC in SQ42. It just makes me shake my head.

I genuinely don't get how ANYONE likes the sculpting, the points you can move affect your entire facial structure, its IMPOSSIBLE to edit a specific part of your face, you want a wider jaw? Sure no problem, so long as your ok with adding 3lbs of neck fat, shortening your chin while making your mouth wider too.....
