- Featuring Annabelle Lyon and Peter Birch. This film of Agnes DeMille's dance was made with only a piano accompaniment, so I've added the orchestral music. But there is no complete recording of the ballet that matches the piano score played for this film, so I had to cut together four different recordings, changing the speeds to match the dance.
This is incredibly important footage! It shows the absolute genius of Agnes DeMille - a true groundbreaker - a visionary. Thank you for putting the orchestral accompaniment underneath it so skillfully - and painstakingly.
Jesus, Mark -- this takes my breath away.
Thanks - it was a ridiculous amount of work! Can't believe that the original ballet music has never been recorded.
Our room host did an OUTSTANDING JOB of adding music! The music audio is excellent.
Thanks!
@@boinx1234 And thank you! What other music have you augmented? Remarkable skill.
@@jimstokes6742 I also did the other Carousel ballet - it's on this channel.
very well done!
Fabulous…. My favorite musical of all time….
A treasure….
Thanks for posting what is really historical footage. The Hornpipe is not just a dance, it is part of the narrative of the play- that is what Agnes de Mille and her dance arranger Trude Rittmann achieved.
Fantastic! Thank you so much for these Gems. They are really appreciated.
Very impressive, I was blown away, high and low :)
Excellent
great job...
WOW!! FANTASTIC JOB!!
Extraordinary! Where does the footage come from? Who shot this film of the dance? Yeah, Agnes de Mille!
Thanks! Rodgers & Hammerstein filmed a few of their shows in order for touring companies to have a reference. Here's my clip of their entire film of the OLC of "South Pacific". ruclips.net/video/GdXXfp26i28/видео.html
INCREDIBLE find. I wish they had done the Carousel Waltz......
I also posted the Act 2 ballet.
@@boinx1234 I saw, thank you, before I saw this. Great contributions.
Thank you for posting this wonderful hitherto fore not generally known interlude/prequel to "Blow High, Blow Low"!
Your work adding the orchestral music is greatly appreciated!
Thanks - it was very hard, since there is no complete recording of the ballet!
@@boinx1234 All the more credit to you for doing it!
Wow!
Fantastic clips- I’m sure Carousel is the favorite show of many people- it’s certainly mine. I was happy with the piano accompaniments you posted originally, but the dances with the full orchestra are even more vibrant. I’d be excited to see the “June” dance, but my question is- do you have any footage of the “Carousel Waltz”? I’d love to see the original staging of that opening!
The only ballets that were filmed for reference were this and the Act 2 ballet on the beach. I've posted both.
Where in the show is this dance?
The title card says Act I, Scene 2.
Thank you. I wish we had the whole version of this show.
An era with the greatest music and talent ……… today at best we have cheep garishness and brass bands instead of an orchestra .
In 1984 I directed a production of "Carousel" and wanted to include Billy and Jigger in "The Hornpipe's" narrative. The Choreographer refused....so I fired her....glad I did!
