That's awesome news mate! Really glad to have made you want our own - we need as many enthusiasts as possible to keep the hobby going! All the best, Sam :)
Sam'sTrains Good news! I got my first layout yesterday! It will be 20 years old at Christmas! It's an Bachmann Galaxy e-z track starter kit! It's engine is a, actually I'm not sure!
Very nice layout and running stock Sam. Took me a little time to realise your layout is laid on the floor of. your loft, and the struts supporting the roof, but it's nicely laid out and looks to be quite user friendly. Thanks. Ken
Thanks very much Ken, glad you enjoyed seeing them! Yeah - it's not ideal on the carpet of course, but I don't really get any issues! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
haha, thanks Russell, yeah it's quite a job getting them all running together in a video - but always worth it to see them in those sidings at the end! Thanks for watching mate, Sam :)
Thanks a lot Muneem, really glad you liked seeing them all together like that! Don't worry about it mate - please watch whenever you want to! :D Cheers, Sam :)
Great video. Loved seeing so many models at once. Have you ever seen the Welsh Highland Railway? You missed the Snowdonian this year... looked like it was quite a show.
Thanks a lot! This is definitely one of my favourite things to do! Yeah I have seen it actually - but never ridden on it unfortunately, it does look gorgeous though! All the best, Sam :)
Looks like you were having a day like I did at work today, nothing went right, ran 46 late, air leak on a 313 and then vandals opening the doors while we were running. Good session there, I love the Railroad range
Oooh blimey - my day wasn't as bad as that, haha! Hope you recover okay from that one mate! Glad you liked this anyway, and thanks for commenting as always, Cheers, Sam :)
I’ve always been fascinated of trains ever since I was little. So whenever I saw a train when I was around the age of 7, my eyes would widen and I would say either; Train! Train! Or look, mom, dad! A train! I always consider it good luck to see a train because I would always have a good day afterwards.
Great running session Sam, all really smooth running Locos! May I ask do you store the collection in those plastic drawers or in their boxes. I find it laborious to keep opening boxes every time I run my Locos and rolling stock at the local club! And they also run the risk of damage from the packaging. How do you cope with the large collection you have? Is dust a problem if you leave them out?
Thanks very much Stephen! No I just keep the locos on shelves - it means they need to be cleaned more often, but it saves time overall! I'm lucky that it's not too dusty in the loft - and regular vacuuming seems to keep it that way! I give my locos regular cleaning and servicing too! Thanks for watching mate, Sam :)
great video mate :) I love the concept of the railroad range as well as the locos that are part of the range !! , I must say my favourite locos today were the two a4's and the scotsman :) , I've got my J15 ordered and I should be arriving tomorrow or Friday!! thanks for the suggestion mate :) -all the best mate
Thanks a lot! Yeah me too - I just wish they kept the prices down, they are tending to creep up recently! Good choices with the Gresley engines, and good luck with the J15 - I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do! All the best, Sam :)
Since when was mallard green? I've only seen it as blue body, red wheels. And also the flying scottsman that you've got it is the first and only loco I've ever got.
Hi! Thanks for the comment - during the BR era she would have appeared in green at some point - but yeah the blue with red wheels is her more famous livery! That's cool too - those flying scotsman models are very good actually! :D Cheers, Sam :)
I've recently purchased a warship also named 'FORMIDABLE' it's great for my layout as I've got quite a steep incline. I would defiantly recommend it to anyone it looks stunning in every scene!
5:46 I like that DCC sound "Gadwall", which was an engine that I saw at a local Model train display that closed two years ago! 10:45 do you have video of your visit there? Nice job! you should do a Big American-style running session!
Thanks very much - yeah the Gadwall is an impressive loco, especially for the price! No I don't actually - but I'm going again this year, so I might take my camera along! Cheers, Sam :)
A marathon session - lots to like. I know this is looking at Hornby Railroad tonight, but just restored a couple of 40 year old Lima diesels - getting to enjoy diesel again, so a request/suggestion would be a diesel box opening or even a diesel running session sometime in future. Alan.
Haha thanks Alan, yeah it was a bit! That sounds good - I've been buying some Lima models recently too, so I'll be showing them quite soon! All the best mate, Sam :)
Hi Sam! tommorow I am going on a cab ride on a Network Rail test track, the test track is very long and a part of it I can see out of a few windows in my house, looking forward to it! 11:00 is when we set off
Sam have a few locos in Rail Road range, at least you don't open the box and find bits and pieces that have fallen off, like the more expensive Hornby range, you would never have this happen with the older models also. Sprung buffers to me are like a hearse with a tow bar, you will use them. Take care John from Oz.
Hi John, you're dead right - that's why I love those railroad locos so much! haha that's true about the sprung buffers too, lol! Thanks for watching mate, Sam :)
Haha yeah! If Bachmann did a range like this, they do very well! Hornby do a great job, but even the prices of railroad models are getting ridiculous, cutting off children and others who are less well off - it's a shame really :( Thanks for watching! Sam :)
Great running session! For some reason it turned off notifications for you. That's why my comments have been so late. By the way I'm starting to notice more and more Black Fives, how kind of you. (;
Nice selection of locomotives! Sam, you said that it was unusual to see Mallard in the BR green. The BR blue was only used from 1948 to 1950 whereas the green was used from 1950 until the end of steam in 1967. Otherwise my friend it was a video worth doing but there was enough content to have been spread over two weeks. David.
Thanks David! Yeah that's right actually - to those around during the steam era it's definitely not true - but I just say that for people who are used to seeing her in blue these days! haha yeah - definitely lots to show - but of course I do give plenty of details on them in videos elsewhere! All the best, Sam :)
Oh right! That's an amazing coincidence then! I also bought their 4-6-0 county class a few years back - the loco was perfect but the box got a little charred in that fire! All the best, Sam :)
Sam'sTrains hi yeah might of been that one. I know I did double one of the patriot with mine years ago. Good film again didn't know there was so many railroad models.
Favorites: black 5, A4 Gadwall & Mallard, midland compounds, patriot, schools class, D49, BR class 40, BR class 47, 9F & A1 tornado. And marry almost Christmas! :) it’s not here yet but it’s a few days away :D.
Hi mate! It's definitely closer than the main Railways range - but it's not quite the same! The rovex stuff was fully serviceable, always easy to maintain, and virtually indestructible! All the best, Sam :)
yes an excellent showcase of the hornby railroad models, you know what they say the devil is in the details 😂 did you check the wheels of those engines that wasn't going anywhere at first and the track connection? when i had a layout the most common problem for the locos not going anywhere is dirty wheel due to oxidation and the points weren't that great. hope this tip helps 😃
Haha yeah that's very true! Yeah it's the decoder I think - that one was on DCC, and it runs fine backwards, but it's a bit of work to get it to run forwards - though it's perfect once it's going, and also perfect without the chip! I'm going to do a reset on it I think! I regularly service my locos, so normally they don't get too dirty! Thanks very much for the comment! Sam :)

Great Vid Sam I'm intrigued by the red Hall, is it the Hogwarts Express livery? if so, why it carrying GWR name and markings and not running around pretending to be a castle? (Some GWS members call it 'the Hall with delusions of grandeur!). I look forward to your unboxing and review.- will questions be answered, or mysteries deepened? Have a great week mate Jon
Hi Jon, Yes that is the Hogwarts loco, and it's always red I think, even as Alton hall! Apparently it's just a coincidence about Hogwarts being a castle; the loco never was supposed to be a castle class! Hornby just confused things by mistakenly releasing a Hogwarts loco as a castle class - they've now corrected it, using a Hall instead! All the best, Sam :)
Could you do a vid on all the pic people have sent in to you. Because some we see a lot but some we don't. Just an idea kept up the good work with the vids
Hi! Yeah that's a nice idea - I might do that one day! For now though, I do post quite regular updates on Facebook and Twitter, so that people can see them! :D All the best, Sam :)
I think you should do a separate rating for railroad locomotives because it doesn’t seem fair to the model it self for having little detail where in that area seems to knock it down especially when it’s competition are railway range locomotives with super detail
Yes that's very true - but my ratings do allow for this - Railroad locos won't score so highly on detail, but they usually do on value! I prefer keeping everything together, so that the rankings cover every model on the market! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam'sTrains hi Sam. my 7 year old son is getting interested into model railway and we have bought him a a few sets for his birthday and I have made him a Base board from foam insulation. can you please start making some more videos for beginners to the hobby. I have never done model railway and are getting confused. thanks
Hi! Thanks so much for the comment - and yeah, I have done a video on getting started! It sounds like you've gotten started okay anyway, but this video goes through maintenance and what locos to look out for, so it might still be helpful for you: ruclips.net/video/2VJXHkZwWsg/видео.html Thanks again, Sam :)
thanks allot. I have seen that video. I am mainly struggling with the track electrics and controls. I want it to be interesting enough for him not to get bored with it. I think this is something that I can help him with. he has really enjoyed building the baseboard so far
I'm glad that you are rather prolific in your output. Your 'competition' is rather sparse at the moment. It's like you are on Eveready batteries and they are on Poundland cheapies.
Haha! Thanks William - I'd never try to compete with anyone - I just do the best I can and hope for the best - I'm just so glad people want to watch! All the best, Sam :)
Hi! Yeah I should do - I'll definitely start doing those periodically! I do post them to Facebook and Twitter quite regularly though! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
haha! Good question - I don't think so, but maybe I should! I did a big Hornby running session - which showed lots of them though :) All the best, Sam :)
Thanks Trevor, really glad you liked it mate - yeah there's some lovely GWR railroad offerings! Glad you liked that one - I couldn't resist it when I saw it! All the best, Sam :)

Haha! I'm sure they didn't mean to offend Americans - it's probably just another word that means Railway - just to distinguish it ;) I have wondered that before too though lol Cheers, Sam :)

Oh yeah! They are pretty good - I think I got most of mine on Ebay quite cheaply! :D
Cheers,

love the vid great value for money those locos
Hi Oli, thanks a lot mate - yeah absolutely, they're just brilliant for the money (normally!)
Thanks for watching,

Hi Sam! tommorow I am going on a cab ride on a Network Rail test track, the test track is very long and a part of it I can see out of a few windows in my house, looking forward to it! 11:00 is when we set off
Oh wow! That's great - I hope you're have an awesome time!
All the. Eat,

Hi John, you're dead right - that's why I love those railroad locos so much! haha that's true about the sprung buffers too, lol!

nice video sam keep em coming mate all the best glen :)
Thanks as always Glen, much appreciated!

Amazing locomotives. *TAKE THE HINT BACHMAN! TAKE THE HINT!*
Haha yeah! If Bachmann did a range like this, they do very well! Hornby do a great job, but even the prices of railroad models are getting ridiculous, cutting off children and others who are less well off - it's a shame really :(

Cheers,
Sam :)
Nice running session
Thanks a lot - really glad you liked it!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Nice selection of locomotives!
Hornby Railroad has some good stuff going for it - Especially since shipping costs are astronomical for me, since there's an ocean in the way, but for the price, things like their Schools class and BR class 40s aren't bad.
...Although my preference is either early Triang or recent Bachmann. Pretty opposite extremes.
Thanks very much! Yeah that's a great point - they're even better value overseas! Yeah the Schools are actually really good - especially with their painted cab!
haha you're very similar to me then - I'm a sucker for those lovely Tri-ang locos too! :D
All the best,
Sam :)
Those Triang models have the same charm as the old Lionel over here, just smaller.
Yeah! It is quite an impressive 4-4-0 for the range. And the BR diesels in blue look pretty fair.
The black 9f is gorgeous
Yeah it is - it's one of their best detailed railroad models too! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Sam of you live in England go to Melton Mowbray on 1st of July at10.45 the flying Scotsman is coming you can even take a ride!
Oh wow! Thanks for the tip - I might do that, thanks a lot!
All the best,
Sam :)
What is your favorite railroad range model because mine is the p2 mikado
Ooh yeah - mine would probably be that one too actually! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Cracking video once again Sam. I know you're showing Hornby Railroad locos, but, how do you rate the Lima models from 80s and 90?
Cheers
Mat
Hi Matt, thanks so much for the kind words! In my opinion, the Lima diesels were superb; mediocre in detail, but extremely good performers - I never liked their steamers though, especially the crab!
All the best,
Sam :)
Thanks mate, trying to get back into the hobby after 20 yrs off haha
Matthew Evans Sam! I need to ask a question if I may, my 2 Lima deltics DO NOT run at all! They get going then just die...any tips?
Hmm I'd recommend giving them a good clean and service - they're quite easy to take apart! Check out my ringield servicing video - It's not the same motor, but they work in the same way!

some very nice trains also the newest loco tornado was on the news going 100 miles an hour not sure if you knew this but there you go
Hi! Thanks so much for your kind words - and no I didn't hear that, but that's very very impressive - well done Tornado!!
All the best,
Sam :)
Might of driven that one. I used to help run the club layout at butterly on the station platform.
Oh right! That's an amazing coincidence then! I also bought their 4-6-0 county class a few years back - the loco was perfect but the box got a little charred in that fire!
All the best,

Merry Christmas - Sam :)
Sam do you think hornby railroad is like original triang rovex ?
Hi mate! It's definitely closer than the main Railways range - but it's not quite the same!
The rovex stuff was fully serviceable, always easy to maintain, and virtually indestructible!
All the best,

Hi! Yeah I really need to get some electric locos! But I have done a diesel running session!
Cheers,

Is the patriot a loco or tender drive version?
Hi Ian, its loco driven!
Hi Sam! Can you add rises to your layout?
That would be awesome one day Craig! :D
Cheers,

13:42 Hello Toad!
Oh, hello Bullman :)
Haha! They both say hello to you too! ;)
Cheers,
Sam :)
All the best,
Sam :)
Did I spot a Bachmann Berkshire and daylight on one of your table
Yeah you did! I'm reviewing it soon! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Was the daylight's number 4449 because that one is still around and operating today
noice vid. am not watching much vids any more because have big rail plans!☺
Thanks Hugo! Wow, good luck mate - let me know how you get on! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Can you do a running session with 060s or 460s please Sam
Hi mate! Yeah I've filmed an 0-6-0 session, so it'll be coming soon! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
It would be interesting to do a price count on all the railroad locos in the session compared to a session with 'proper' hornby locos.
Haha yeah that'd be good - I'd probably be appalled at the cost of it all though, haha!
Cheers again,
Sam :)
Thanks
No problem! :)
can you do a tutorial on how to work dcc trains please
Hi! Yeah I could try to - which system are you using?? There should be lots of tutorials online, if you need to know fast!
All the. Set,
Sam :)
Sam'sTrains I was thinking of getting dcc but had no idea how to use it or which system was best
Nice vid mate! :)
Thanks a lot - glad you enjoyed it! :D
All the best,
Sam :)
hornby rail road it's either an old tender dive loco with the motor in the loco or a the p2.
haha yeah! I don't mind that though - the detail is normally more than adequate! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
yeah and it's nice that the b17 is coming to the railroad range!
The A4 is my favorite class of train
Awesome! They were certainly gorgeous machines!
All the best,
Sam :)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
random question how many pull man couches
How many do I own? About 16 I think - I may have some more older tri-ang ones though!
All the best,
Sam :)
Why is there a cow at the back of the goods train at the beginning lol 😂
Jakobe White you must be new here...trust me, you're gonna be seeing that cow a lot
Party Pete I been on his page a lot but I've just been wondering why that's all lol 😂
Jakobe White he is called bullman
haha yeah - he's actually not allowed on the railway any more, but I'm yet to track down his lair :/
All the best,
Sam :)
Do you have king James the 1st yet
Hi! No I don't have that one - mine is King George I (I think!)
Cheers,
Sam :)
Nice vid!
Thanks Roy, glad you enjoyed it mate,
Cheers,
Sam :)
It sounds like you've gotten started okay anyway, but this video goes through maintenance and what locos to look out for, so it might still be helpful for you:
ruclips.net/video/2VJXHkZwWsg/видео.html
Thanks again,
Sam :)
thanks allot. I have seen that video. I am mainly struggling with the track electrics and controls. I want it to be interesting enough for him not to get bored with it. I think this is something that I can help him with. he has really enjoyed building the baseboard so far
8:15 Is the red chair having a nice sit down? ;)
haha yeah - it just needed a rest!! :D
My black 5 runs like a dream
Yeah mine does too once she's running - I think it's a faulty decoder, I might try resetting it!
Cheers,
Sam :)
All the best,
Sam :)

All the best,
Sam :)

Cheers again,

I always see a coach broken near a station it's black
Oh yeah that one - it's a military style coach I think! It has no wheels, so it's just a display really!
All the best,
Sam :)
The fact it's called the railroad range yet there is little to none American locos in that range is kinda weird
Yeah, it has nothing to do with America - they just needed a different word for 'railway' ;D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
its my b day i got a hornby night mail
Awesome! I hope you have a really nice birthday, and enjoy the set!
Cheers,
Sam :)
do you want me to review it
hi sam did you get my email
Hi Alfie, yeah I did, and I replied! Check your junk if you didn't get it, lol!
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
Why is the cheap Hornby stuff called railroad are hornby trying to say something
Haha! I'm sure they didn't mean to offend Americans - it's probably just another word that means Railway - just to distinguish it ;)
I have wondered that before too though lol
Cheers,
Sam :)
