    love how that guy at the end is up on this brand new rubber roof smoking a cigarette!!! Brilliant!😮

      Are you worried that he was going to put a cigarette out on the rubber? Don’t think so when we smoke a cigarette which we are smokers apparently maybe you’re not I know how non-smokers are when they see smokers we put our cigarette butts in our pockets and I don’t mind if my guys smoke cigarettes long as they don’t throw your cigarettes on the ground.

      I think the job we did for the homeowner meant more than anything. We did a great job on the roof and all you want to concentrate on. Is somebody smoking a cigarette the homeowner was up on the roof smoking cigarettes while we were doing the job imagine that, why don’t you concentrate on the good things instead of the things that you consider bad is there anything good you could say besides that if not, maybe you should just stay away from my channel I don’t need negativity. We all smoke including the homeowner, he didn’t seem to mind.

      @@Drewsroofingandhomerepair that rubber is thick enough even if you put a cigarette out on it, I doubt it would phase it. People don't realize how durable the rubber roof is, its going to last 20 years at least. Maybe you could take some old scrap rubber and make a video showing how much abuse it could take, put a cigar out on it, then take a torch to it, something just to show how tough it is.

    I lived in one of those for about 5 years! It was my remodel practice! I started off building rafters over a ridge peak, then put T1-11 on the outside, then started cutting away the old roof from inside and started putting colar ties on each rafter set, cutting 4ft away at a time. I have made a few mistakes here and there. But, it came with the land that I had purchased, and I nickel and dime'd it for a couple of years and had a retired contractor help me with the electrical and plumbing. Eventually, I moved away with a half finished home....but the knowledge I learned doing things myself has proven its value.

    I laid down 2 inch styrofoam with metal on top. Built up the sides to support a gutter system. My heating and cooling savings will pay for it in 4 years. All the work was done by my two young teen age sons and my self so no labor costs other than several orders of pizza.
    We had a great time and it looks and performs fabulous.

      Tpagjmpp can deffinately use the added foam insulation in the roofs / ceiling! Walls too! I have always wanted to 2×4 or 2×6 all the way around a mobile home basically restructure the framing! Use a metal roof and either a cementitious or some other siding ! But I feel alot can be done to improve the efficiency of mobile homes!

    Great job, quality work. I am pretty sure that I have seen several of your jobs. I live in NC. Every customer always bragged about how you did the work. Showed up when promised did great work cleaned up and left. One comment that small J gutter was to hold the metal roof on not for rain diversion which becomes evident even with a small shower. 😂

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  5 лет назад +1

      Yes you can put gutters on my job after you install the 2 x 4’s underneath the plywood like I do. That gives you something right there to add gutters to. The only thing you want to do in that situation is you have to leave in about an inch or two of the rubber hanging past the termination bar so it can hang in the gutter. That way water does not go behind the gutters it goes in the gutter. The two by fours you install it there are plenty solid enough to put gutters on

    Drew love your videos. You helped me out several years ago adding gutters, I had the insulated White TPO roof and removed the tiny gutters like you said added regular gutters and lots of that expensive glue on rubber behind termination bars that secured top of 5” gutters. Had a bad drainage problem and finally hired an engineer an a acres of city land was draining to the corner of my 3 lots.
    Fought city as natural flow was south across street. Finally comprised with city, paid for 1600 feet of drainage pipe drop was calculated by engineering company I hired. People south of me have thanked me as some had 2 sump pumps in basements two blocks south that quit running 24/7 after several weeks. Turned out as we installed the drop box on my corner last, a old brick drain was buried just 2” from were we installed drop box going North to a drain that had been cleaned and repaired and was the shortest distance out of town about 1/2 mile to large ditch. Fought that for years. Now my spare lot to North has a 8” new heavy green pipe running in front of it 8’ deep. While it was tons of frustration it increased value of these 3 lots. When it rains hard and rest of town has water in yards and ditches my yard is nice and clear. You sure helped me and I thank you Sir.

    Thank you so much !!! Colorado is a financial disaster with tens of thousands of jobs gone since 2007. Lost our home in 2010. Bought 35 very remote acres raw land and 14 x 70 home (1980 model) for $600 and had it moved to the land ($500 to move). Predator generator, cleaned for two days and moved in (8 below 0 that day). The edges of “flat” roof leaked bad so from one end to the other, patched leaks and tore out the exterior walls down to framing 2 x 4s and replaced all floors (replaced many 2 x 6 rim joists -rotted completely at edge) -from main joists which were in good shape, to bottom frame 1 x 4s (some framing 2 x 4s replaced -exterior walls - due to mold and rotting from 1 x 4 up a foot from bottom). New Anderson Windows (required modifying framework each room), new insulation, Tyvek, siding, drywall, new wiring (mice had chewed Romex in walls) - Room by room until done. Interior walls torn out and new walls built changing floor plan completely. Meanwhile, yearly maintenance on roof to prevent damage again. This project was done 100% DEBT FREE, very slowly while living in the house completely off-grid (Antique Ben Franklin stove wood heat). After having our beautifully remodeled 1892 Queen Anne /Victorian home foreclosed I swore I’d never have a mortgage again. We rebuilt this mobile home completely alone (husband and wife) buying a little bit of materials here and there while our grown children called us “crazy” and “trailer trash” and completely rejected us and now have no contact with us. They won’t let our grandkids come to our little farm that we built for the last 10 years. We did this job starting at 50 yrs old and this year I’m 60. We want to do the “rubber roof” this year as shown here. We will probably have to hire a couple of young guys to help us. WHERE DO WE GET THE LARGE RUBBER SHEET MATERIAL?

    Hi Drew, great words of wisdom. yes, I agree that value is in the eye of the beholder. After having lost my career, my house and wife during the last recession. I became just another homeless veteran, stastically destined to die that way. By the grace of God and a lot of hard work It took me three years to work my way back from the street and into a place I call home. It's a very old single wide mobile home, that has tremendous value to me. It's old and rundown but it's paid for. I am located in the northeast and have the same style roof that is very badly in need of the repair. With the harsh New England winters we experience, I wanted to ask if you know how can we incorporate ridged insulation to help provide some "R" value? At the moment there is none. I look forward to your response. Thank you.

I thought it was possibly water line leaks, tore everything apart to find the leaks, no leak from those, but floors were still getting worse. turns out a bad roof was the cause of all the damage, water was coming down inside the walls and ruining floors. Thumbs up, and good work! I learned some stuff from this video, thank you! I see how you could shingle over the roof or even add metal roofing pretty easily.

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  5 лет назад +1

      TheChris AndHollieShow If the roof has no pitch whatsoever like this particular roof by all means DI NOT put shingles on it. Use Rubber, EPDM or TPO EPDM the seams are glued TPO they are heat welded. I don’t think TPO is as good or I also do not think it will last as long as he PDM the good thing about PPO is it is white the bad thing is it is very expensive

    • @Drewsroofingandhomerepair
      @Drewsroofingandhomerepair  5 лет назад

      TheChris AndHollieShow I have seen people put metal on a mobile home with no pitch on it before but I do not do that. If the roof has an A-frame pitch or at least 12 inches higher in the center it might be able to have metal

    I can't say enough about this channel. I buy mobile homes and fix them up to resell and make a profit. With todays market and houses being in short supply, most people are now looking to purchase mobile homes. That makes sense, especially if you can find one on a piece of land and not have to pay lot rent monthly. But you have to be careful when purchasing a used mobile home. There can be issues that you may not be aware of. That's why you have to know what your doing and make sure that there is no major damage. This includes mold and mildew from leaking roofs and plumbing. The list goes on and on. This channel Drew's Roofing & Home Repair is a great place to learn by watching their videos to gather important information. If you are in need of mobile home repairs and are in South Carolina then I highly recommend you give them a call. If not then just watch their awesome videos and subscribe to their RUclips channel.

    Forget trapping all that wood that is supseptable to rot from condensation. Just foam adhere down some tapered isocianurate insulation and a 60 mill TPO membrane. Brilliant white surface reflecting the sun's heat and additional R-7 from isocianurate insulation. 1/2 the price, additional thermal protection and no fasteners penetrating the original roof.

    • @bigj9866
      @bigj9866 5 лет назад +5

      JACK CARDIN I agree with you on the trapped moisture and non treated lumber they used. The EPDM they used always have the seems fail. I have to say that TPO’s track record sucks. It’s getting better with new formulas but isn’t better than the EPDM. Neither one of these come close to a 24 gauge standing seam metal roof panel system with no exposed fasteners.

    just one concern those mobile homes don't have a drip edge for a reason once u add a drip u add up force on the roof from wind if ur in a hurricane or high wind zone ur roof will be the first to get ripped off unless u brace the frame work to handel that kind of load there not designed to have up force placed on them at all

      Paul Underwood true,but OSB’s main purpose for sheathing is its shear strength. Plywood is far superior for the loads applied in low pitched roof situation like this one where the shear strength means nothing.

    It would be the 1st roof I ever seen with zero vents. Plumbing or other wise.
    Also no need to detail how. But a white roof is a lot better then black roofs.
    I wanna add. If no vents plumbing or other wise we’re not there before.
    Correct thing to do is inform owner of the issue.

      Maybe I missed it
