Aerial view gives you good idea how Long home really is. that's a Lotta Bending Nailing and Stapling.. Looking Really Good so far! Would like to say Really nice to see your brother helping you that's True Family there!
You were pretty cavalier dropping the plywood sheets on the roof, it would have been so funny if you missed the grove and if one had gone flying off the roof onto the garden. Great work, love your videos. Thank you.
Great job. You make a good team on a back braking job. You will be so thankful that you did it when the winter comes.Hope your brothers finger is healing well. Keep safe.. Blessings. Carole in UK
We love it already! Mostly the overhang! An unknown benefit was how much shade it gives to the side of the home with the sun's angle this time of year. It keeps the sun from directly shining on about 1/3 of the side wall which is awesome for keep the home cooler! Thanks Maggie Sue!
Thank you for showing the underlayment on the roof at the beginning of the video, it made it easier to watch knowing you made it that far with out incident😉
I can't imagine taking on this project. I applied "Cool Seal" to two mobile home roofs when I was in my mid twenties. Nearly killed me (I lived in Florida). My hat is off to you!
Thank you for bringing out the name of the cap nailer. I am going to look up the Stinger. I have done part of my project with cap nails by hand. What a work out.
The pitter patter of their footsteps when it’s on high speed mode gives me a little chuckle… n anyways I’m hoping we can do this to our single wide in the future
Howdy green acres h/s! Btw, favorite song neighbors have to listen to while I mow 5 acres!😁 Love your videos and couldn't come at a better time! Husband and I are remodeling our 1st home together and you and Angela have been such a huge help with projects we'll be facing! Keep up the wonderful work!
i got my second order of soap and i love everyone of them ...for those of you subbies out there, Angela's soap is the BEST ever, i am 60 and i have used home made soap on my face my whole life, so i have used all kinds. this soap has a great "bubble" is soft on the skin and doesn't dry out the skin. the smell omg just omg. Angela is the lemongrass goat milk ready? i want one of those too.
We sure hope so! I think we're most excited to have the eaves to keep the rainwater runoff off the home, then getting rid of the roof noise in windy weather. It would rumble and make all sorts of sounds in the wind!
It's looking good Sam and Josh. I hope you got enough wood to complete it Sam because the cost of lumber is on the rise and it's scarce. Keep up the great work guys.
Great job. I went on the roof of my Dad's neighbor's house, when my Dad & brother re-roofed it. I was in High school & I had to ask by brother to help me back onto the ladder. Many years ago, I went on top of My house to watch fireworks when my kids were little & I once again needed help getting back down onto the ladder. I have never & will never go on a roof again. I won't even go on a ladder anymore. I know you & Angela will be o happy when this job is done.
I have a 1991 single wide. And i had to redo my roof a few years ago. I wish so bad I would have thought to have that done. But at that point I just bought it and never crossed my mind. Live and learn
Coming along nicely. Don't much like the sound the old roof makes when it's being walked on!! Soon you'll be real flash with a new roof, and gutters etc!!!
“Internal water features” 🤣😂, there you go cracking me up again! I think the last one that got me was “jumping over pits of despair” in another video. Love these videos and I’d love to live nearby to lend a hand!
It took a little getting used to, but even with us being up there as much as we have been, we're still nervous and very cautious. That's why you see us sit down near the edges! :) Neither one of us are fond of heights.
Love the work so far, showing the way you guys do things. Looking good. Keep up the awesome work, of course there’s others that would do it different but the Beauty of that is that you are doing it your way and it works and looks great 😁😁 I just posted a camper remodel video and will be posting more and better ones. House remodel videos will be coming soonish as well.
Hello, Just started watching your videos recently and we love them, you guys have done so much work on that house and did a great job on the renovation too. I had a Mobile home when I was living in Connecticut I had that home for about 5.5 years and I did alot of work on mine as well. so I know how difficult some things are when it comes to a complete renovation and it is hard work. but was very rewarding in the end looking back on it now lol. best regards from your new friends in Lima Peru George & Carmen
Awesome Sam, I'm catching up on the videos. Busy lately so I'm trying to catch up. Looks awesome. Happy that Josh helped out. You guys are amazing! Looking awesome!!
Love the team work and the moral support. It can be a daunting job to say the least but I knew you could do it. I do not like heights either and I am a wreck in an elevator higher than 3 stories and I used to run the elevators and do mail runs on 21 offices four times a day all in the elevator. LOL Life! Glad your brother is helping you..........many hands make light work........always fun to work with someone as compared to alone. You two will get it kicked out in no time........the sooner the better with winter coming and you won't have to do any more for years........it will be done. Don't wait til frost please.........I wish I was there I could be a cheerleader and
Great job........onward march. Good to get it all done and especially to have your brother pitch in. Many hands make light work. You will have it done within the the next week or so I am sure. I wouldn't love doing it either so while I was at it I would want it DONE and never look at it again............LOL I do not like heights! PERIOD I guess you could call me a flat land type of person. LOL It is going to be beautiful and DONE and never to worry about it again. That is a wonderful feeling for sure. Keep at it and before you know it its going to be done! Forge on and no worries about fall and winter
Getting it done in a week would be wonderful, but not on our timeline... we're slower than other DIY/Reno RUclipsrs I think :) My work and homeschooling, etc. take some time away from us but we also have to wait for the money to come for the next steps. Luckily that usually isn't a big issue because of the slower pace. LOL For example, the past two days have been spent removing the old gutters from the home. 8 hours of working and only 1/3rd of the home gutters have been removed. LOL S-L-O-W going!!! :) Anywho, we both really appreciate your watching us and comments!
Sam, when you stepped onto the ply wood to walk along the roof , did you ever slip? because i know what ply is like for slipperiness and my heart was in my mouth as you stepped along confidently .
Brotherly love is so good too watch nothing like it, love the drome make it so nice too watch ,good job yall must have strong back mine would be killing me lol ,Sam you are a great husband and father always working too better your home for them .
I just wish my mobile home had a roof like your mobile home. Mine is a 14 x 70, but it has a rounded roof that is domed in the middle. It has no center peak. I was thinking about doing a roof over, but, was told that with the age of my place that I would have to put poles in the ground and build the roof onto the poles. I was thinking about running rows of 2x4s along the edges and a row down the length in the center and basically making a peak so that I could lay the plywood on the roof. I was thinking about putting a metal roof on top of the plywood instead of using roof tiles too. The metal roofing will last longer too without the worry of the high winds we get here lifting any of the tiles up.
There are several mobile homes in our area that are older than ours with the same roof where they have framed up elaborate structures on top--much more than what we're doing! I thought it may be an interesting video to show the various ones around here for inspiration, humor, or otherwise. I don't know how prevalent roof overs are for other areas, but they're popular out here! I don't know about structure strengths or if they did anything to support the new roofs internally. I'll have to do that at some point soon. It would be interesting maybe.
I'm happy he's here to help too! He still has his finger in the splint and stitched up, etc. We're planning another two-day work session this weekend (Sunday & Monday) to hopefully replicate the same work to the rest of the home (plywood + underlayment). In the meantime I'm working to frame up the eaves for the part we've done already.
How often do you have to change that gas cylinder? I'm sure it is too late already but White steel is the way to go to keep your mobile home cool. I have put it on my home and 3 other buildings and I cannot tell you how much it cooled my home vs. the old black shingles I had. On my barn, you can actually touch the underside of the white roof without burning your hand...its just that reflective.
They say the gas cylinder will last for 1,000 nails. We went through about 3/4 a box so far. I bought two boxes (1,000 each) and hope it’s enough. We’re getting the same roof we used for our other structures we’ve built here so they match. The color is brown-ish but it is a cool touch coated panel. It’s got a reflective coating to where you can put your hand on the bottom of it in summer too.
I have a similar project planned, but after watching the difficulty you had squaring up the first sheets so the rest played well, I’m starting to wonder about my plan. I want to add a 2 x 4 on top of each truss for a 2 foot overhang but I have plywood deckong now and I’m not sure how I’m going to locate the trusses and get them square. I think I’m going to have to run a very tight and accurate string line at the peak so I can measure down when the wind is not blowing lol
What did you do for venting the roof.? I would have added 2x4's on the flat then laid the plywood and used a fascia vent or sofit vent combined with a ridge vent. With your current configuration, the sun will heat all the roof and without proper venting, the inside will be hot in the summer and colder in the winter. I am trying to vent my roof now, that's why I watched your video, Cheers.
Thats a lot of work!!! Looks great! Be careful up there.... I slid off a roof once and broke my ankle. lol. But I was trying to get a fallen tree limb off after a little bad weather.
I just bought a trailer for 7000 bucks no land hardly at all but its my first home an il be renovating the whole thing hoping to have it done by february but more than likely wont be done til summertime next year il also be doing it alone
Drew's Roofing and Home Repair would be a good place to start to teach you how to get started on your mobile home roofing. He has a channel on You Tube
Hi Sam, thanks for putting these together. Fun to watch. Had a question as I am looking to roof a small project. Didn’t you need to put spacers between the plywood? If not how do you keep from buckling? Thanks
I can see the play/movie adaptation already. Instead of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof", it will be "Two Dudes on a Roof". All joking aside, it looks like great progress!
And goodness that roof was HOT!!!!! At the very end we both noticed, at about the same time, that our feet were on fire! I guess the roof heat had finally made its way through our shoes. LOL Making memories! :)
I'm like you I try to repair whatever I can. I see people pulling trailers with lawnmowers on the back all the time , why? People are to lazy to do things themselves!
You left 12 inches overhang of plywood on roof. What are you going to do to brace it up? If not braced it will sag and cause problems. Am I missing something? I really do like the way you will try to do anything on your homestead.
Great video! Can I ask about the materials and ball park figure on them. It looks great! Also are you covering with tin, or shingles? Keep it up, look great!
So far the materials (plywood, lumber, underlayment, hardware) have cost right at $1,300. I still have to buy the metal roofing. I'm waiting until the roof is decked out so I can order the metal roof panels cut to the right lengths for our roof to make installation easier.

He's good like that. hahaha

Unpredictable weather calls for DIYfferent ways of getting roofs done !!!
We see what you did there.... and we like it! :)
You guys are a Hoot when you get together on a project you both have such great sense of humor 😄
More fun than work! :)
Woohoo!
Big props. As a big guy myself, getting on a roof and working is not an easy task. 👍🏼
Much appreciated! It's not easy, but going to be VERY worth it! Looking forward to a little cooler weather in the coming work days. Thanks!

Hi Sam, thanks for putting these together. Fun to watch. Had a question as I am looking to roof a small project. Didn’t you need to put spacers between the plywood? If not how do you keep from buckling? Thanks
The clips didn't work for us so we just spaced the plywood apart to allow for expansion. You're right though. :)
Looks great! God Bless
Thank you! You too!
Are you not using the metal clips between the sheets of plywood?
Looking good!
Thanks!
How do you like the paslode nailer? How does the air container hold up?
Good job you two!
Looking good there ! ✅
Thanks 👍
Where and when did you use the plywood clips?
Sam you remind me of a man getting ready to climb the Alps with that harness , hat. and all!
Too much Sound of Music growing up I guess! Hahaha Grandmother always played it for us when she watched us as kids. :-)
I'm like you I try to repair whatever I can. I see people pulling trailers with lawnmowers on the back all the time , why? People are to lazy to do things themselves!
Ty. Good. Job
You didn't use the clips you bought that go in between each sheet?
You left 12 inches overhang of plywood on roof. What are you going to do to brace it up? If not braced it will sag and cause problems. Am I missing something? I really do like the way you will try to do anything on your homestead.
I'm building eaves and adding them under the plywood.
