  • (DRYWALL) How to use a hawk and trowel like a pro. This video demonstrates how efficient a hawk and trowel method is for coating drywall angles. I'd say the hawk is quicker as I see more profeesionals using them as their go to tool to get the job done the best way they know how.
    What do you use? hawk and trowel, pan and knife?

    This reminds me of the good ole days, when i used to hang and finish... the only this different is i used pan and knives, but i actually think this is faster.... i also had the bazooka and boxes, its odd that i didnt use hawk and trowel for finishing drywall because i could plaster too....now i just watch videos of the the work at 71 yrs of age....good job guys.

      Nothing in the world like getting a full spread with a hawk n trowel countless generations have used those tools something about that is what makes a true plasterer love what he does

    I love these videos. I appreciate the videos when other guys walk you through the process, but it is amazing to see a well-oiled machine on the job, at a construction site.

    Really need to get a hawk and trowel and spend the time getting used to it. I do just fine with my pan and knives but it seems you can really put a lot of mud on in a hurry and more efficiently with a hawk and trowel. Always wanted to try them out but after watching your video I'm definitely going and getting a set tomorrow. Thanks for the push guys. Just added something for me to be excited about again at work. After 25 years of using a pan and knives I'm making a switch. That's exciting to me. Guess I'm not switching. Just going to run bead, butt joints and flats with it. Wait till I'm better before trying to skim any walls out with it but that's what I'm most excited about using it for. Getting rid of the roller setup for skimming. Anyways again, thanks for the push. I get too excited sometimes. Lol!

      Chris Maffett We start the new guys on hawk and knives and slowly to hawk and trowels

    • @pound6599
      @pound6599 2 года назад

      Did you try it?
      I have been using knife and pan for about a year, and I finally made the switch to hawk and trowel. It was a mess. It is a lot more difficult than these guys make it look. On the rare occasion I get a good run, I do like the “bulldoze” effect of the trowel over the knife. But I lost patience and converted to a knife and hawk. I’ll keep practicing.

    What’s crazy is I’ve never used hawk on bead but love it on the ceiling. I believe this old dog needs to up his game. They have given me something to learn. Wrist gets very sore these days coating usually use box on bead but Cat man was definitely on his game. Hawk doesn’t keep up with big boy boxes but it’s definitely lighter using hawk and trowel it’s definitely better on ceilings with hardly any end blade spills. If you’re open to learning to be efficient I would say you can always learn something new.

      @@Maxkil I just commented on another video as well, some tw!t saying that tools are ruining talent. I disagree and say tools make the craftsman. Thanks for the reply.
      I found you from airless paint spraying and subbed. Im just about to buy some kit: Graco contractor PC pro gun, Graco 3/16" - 1/4" whip hose, Graco FFLP and LP tips, attached to a £200 Amazon (china) 1800w airless paint sprayer. I figured the finish is in the tip and gun, not the pump. Promises to be 5 year warranty, brushless motor, stainless steel pump. The whole lot will be £450 instead of £700 for a kit that will have a basic gun and pump with 800w brushed motor. Heres the pump: www.amazon.co.uk/VEVOR-Airless-Electric-Adjustable-Pressure/dp/B08K8N4LQK/ref=sr_1_5?crid=26ONQZ6U3IQUK&dchild=1&keywords=airless+paint+sprayer+1800w&qid=1603636093&sprefix=1800w+airless%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-5 Ill take a punt on it.

    5:46 I'm a Union Drywall finisher in Kansas City, that looks extremely good, I don't know why we don't use Hawk and Trowels. Really don't think the best Finisher I know could finish that doorway as fast as him with a pan and knife.

      Pan and knife sucks. Hawk and trowel is the future from the past. Lol

      Using a pan in my opinion is not practical at all I’d use a hawk anyday

      I could never understand why use a pan instead of a hawk. But there was one reason I heard. That sometimes when the mud consistency after running a taper for example is so wet that it will fall off the trowel too easy.

      Maxkil that makes sense actually that’s a good point ...... sometimes on a bad day my nickname is “magpie” cause I drop shit everywhere if put to much on the hawk while taping 😂
