      My birthday was coming soon and my mom kept asking my aunt about it. She would say "When is the girls birthday?" (I'm a twin). She wanted to wait til she saw us turn 21 before she passed.. She made it, but was in a deep sleep.. She passed the night of our 21st birthday. Best present I could have ever recieved... As messed up as it sounds, It was a good feeling to know she was no longer suffering.

Mums don‘t have to sacrifice everything for their kids, that‘s a really toxic thought. I get that this woman is really inspiring and admirable but we can‘t hold all mothers to these standards...

Your children need you so its about add about them 24/7 that doesn't mean its less about you but it means they will ALWAYS be included in every decision you make. The lady who made the commment said NOTHING wrong.

    • @maries.5587
      @maries.5587 3 года назад +7

      Michael Miller I’m sorry if it came across that way, but I never meant to say that parents don’t have to think about their kids. This is so obvious that I didn’t include it in my comment, but OF COURSE bringing kids into the world makes you responsible for them, we’re all aware of that. And I’m not asking for parents to become neglectful and abandon their kids, obviously. What I found problematic about the comment was solely the part about “not thinking about herself for a second” and how apparently that makes her a “real mum”. I commented because I didn’t want mums to read that comment and feel guilty about not completely sacrificing their lives to their kids and neglecting their own needs. When I wrote that part I thought about mums who want to go back to work and not be a stay at home mum, who want to meet up with friends sometimes, who need some alone time after playing with their kids. Nowhere did I say that mums should stop thinking about their kids. But as long as their kids are in safety, I think they’re entitled to breaks and alone-time if they need it. And they’re allowed to still make time for their own needs. I’m only 19 and don’t plan to have kids any time soon but I know that if I ever were to have kids I would definitely need to take care of my OWN needs aswell in order to be a good mum. In my opinion “not thinking about themselves for a second” is holding mums to an unrealistic standard that will do more harm than good - to mums AND their kids. At least that’s what I think. I didn’t mean to start a fight and I surely didn’t mean to accuse the commenter. Your assumption about how I’m going to be a bad mum however was really hurtful and completely unnecessary, especially coming from someone who doesn’t know me at all. This comment was not about me and you shouldn’t have made it about me.

    Lost a good friend to cancer this past year. One thing that she did in her last days, which I deeply appreciated, was she told me how she wanted to be supported. This is so important because how people want supported can change from hour to hour. Sometimes she wanted to reminisce about what she could do in the past, sometimes she wanted to redirect to what she could do still in the present, other times she wanted to look to the future. Sometimes she just wanted to feel sad, sometimes she wanted to celebrate life, other times she wanted to be cheered up, other times she just wanted to be together. I'm really grateful that she was so honest with me so that I could be as good of a support as possible.

      My mother wrote me a beautiful letter. I took care of her for her last two months when she was dying of ovarian cancer. My father had just died of cancer of the pancreas. i Don't think my dad really believed he would die but my mother seemed to know she hadn't much time left. She prepared me for her death well, probably better than my dad prepared me for his. When my mother died I was sad but not shocked because she had prepared me. I didn't believe my dad would die until the day before he actually died. I think its so important to prepare your loved ones when you know death is imminent- like Ellie and my mom did. i wasn't a child when they died- I was 36 but there was still a troubled child inside of me.

When I was in middle school I made friends with the daughter of our school counselor, I grew a deep personal relationship with Mrs. Reynolds. In 8th grade, I was having intense suicidal thoughts and depression. So I talked to Mrs Reynolds. She told my parents (who had no idea that I was struggling with my mental health.) I could have not asked for a Better Mother as mine, Angela Marie (Donatis) Manzi from Syracuse, NY. Miss you Mom....but your personality lives in me and through my Life!

    Wow, I "stumbled" upon Ellie's story this morning, just when I really needed to find it most. I've been going through some very difficult times lately, & wasn't sure where to go next. Ellie was an amazing woman, w a very amazing family. So amazing, that I find myself completely jealous of all the love & support she is surrounded by. Which makes me feel ashamed, because she is dying of terminal cancer, on her 40th birthday. And everyone who loves her gathered together to give testimony about who Ellie is, how bravely she lived her life, and how much she loves them all. Especially he only child Jayden. The bond between them is beautiful to see, yet agonizing to watch. The pain of leaving her son behind must be horrendous, yet she tells him without any hesitation, that she really isn't leaving him. She will be there in spirit, and through Jayden's memories of her.
    In this harsh and punishing world we now live in, it can be almost impossible to live w even the smallest scrap of dignity and courage. Yet, Ellie left this testimony behind, to remind us ALL, that life, even in sickness and pain, is such a blessing. A blessing we should all be grateful for, and to NEVER take it for granted, or squander it, because our time here on earth is so short. Yet, after we pass, we still have forever to be together.
